I know you want to be optimistic but Bruno Fernandes by himself is not going to change our season. It will take him time to adapt to the league, the physicality and its pace. I'm just glad we will be seeing less of Lingard and Pereira.
Honestly I can't see how he CANT be an upgrade on what we already have. Pereira/Lingard are such poor number 10's on the ball that he can't really do any worse surely.

Yes it might take him a while to get used to the intensity but he seems a quick thinker, I don't think he will have any major issues.

I agree with you in principle, but I think it would be asking a lot of him to hit the ground running. In any case, if he can control a ball, make a pass and not run away from responsibility, then that is already a massive upgrade.

Exacto-bloody-lutely!

I'm not putting money on him hitting the ground running Colin, just being optimistic that he can come in and do a job for us for the remainder of the season.

I'm generally opposed to January transfers and giving more money to a manager who clearly isn't going to succeed here, but.. on the other hand, it means seeing much less of Lingard and Pereira so.. I'm in.

I wonder how the club are gonna spin this now if he does goes to Barca then off to Valencia on loan. Im beyond angry & frustrated at how incompetent they are at getting shit done. We literally shouldn't even be sitting discussing this right now, it should have been wrapped up a long long time ago. We are DESPERATE for creative midfield talent, no ifs or buts. If we dont bring in anything and choose to settle for what we have, its game over for the season, wave goodbye to top4, or anything meaningful at that. We currently are one of the most beatable teams going. Beating Tranmere prob has them thinking we are great.

Dont expect anything any different in the summer guys.. Maybe just higher fees being thrown around, for english players we prob wont get. Will be given the old BS excuses about 'not being able to do deals in a major tournament year'.

After this City game, Saturday at Old Trafford is gonna be toxic as fck. Im not looking forward to going. Ole doing himself no favours sticking up for the shower of useless c*nts above him. Only a matter of time before majority of fans have had enough of that too
I said it would be done and it is. Now for a striker before Friday's deadline.

Hopefully Bruno will be a good player for us and hopefully this transfer won't block any other good players in his position joining us in the summer.

Personally I'm scared of a scenario where this guy is being an average to normal player who needs a while to settle in, while our rivals get their hands on guys like Van de Beek, Ziyech, or Havertz in the summer and they turn out to be much better players than him.

No one knows this. What we can all be optimistic about is that we have a natural no10 now. Someone who creates and scores goals from midfield. We've been crying out for it and now we have Bruno. Yes, he'll have to adapt but he's changed leagues before and he doesn't strike me as someone who will shirk the physical side of our game. He could very well be the difference in us making 4th this year.

Agreed. Lack of creativity from the middle is the number 1 biggest issue in this team right now, so if Fernandes can bring something to the table it could translate into quite a few extra points on the board come May.

Pogba-Fred
---Bruno---
Fred doesn't deserve to be dropped but he probably will McT is a youth product.
There are so many games, and with injuries and suspensions, it really doesn't matter.

But when all are fit, and game requires strongest XI, I think McT deserves the slot above Fred, notwithstanding his dramatic recent improvements.

I really hope we see him play on saturday. Bringing my kid to his first match and could be a fantastic debut for both.

I think it will work as Fred is a very good destroyer whilst Bruno has all the attributes to provide energy with Fred whilst being fare better on the ball. Pogba is just Pogba. Providing we aren’t restricting him to play deep of a two we should over run every midfield bare the top teams where more discipline would be required. But then McTominay can fill in for those games.
Not really. Definitely has the work rate, but not sure about actual defensive ability. We'll need to upgrade the holding DM position.

Yep. On paper we now actually have something resembling a team.

Our defence isn't that bad at all. McT and Fred have been solid, Pogba (while he's here) and now with Bruno sitting behind Rashford, Martial and James. Our front 3 will really feel the difference with some fast balls played in front of them.

DDG
AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Williams
Fred - McT
Bruno
James - Martial - Rashford

Bench: Romero, Jones, Shaw, Pogba (see what I've done there?), Perreira, Greenwood
Suddenly looking a decent squad.

This is an alright deal in the end. £47M initial is a decent fee.

If we had paid the full £70M straight up I would have been nervous since players from the Portuguese League who come to the English league are very hit and miss. Some are truly outstanding, some are turd beyond measure. If he is good, we pay up, no problem.

Let's hope Bruno is one of the true stars. He seems to have the right attitude to back his numbers up.
Guardian saying £75,000 a week plus bonuses, even with bonuses if it ends up averaging out at £120,000 a week thats 24 million over 4 years in comparison to the 68 million Inter are giving Eriksen. With transfer fees included both players will cost about the same whilst Eriksen will be well in his 30's when his deal ends. At least if Fernandes doesn't work out he won't be difficult to move on whilst Inter would really struggle getting rid of Eriksen.

If those numbers are true, then Woodward deserves credit for holding his nerve despite the brinksmanship from Lisbon and insane pressure from the fanbase.

Isn't the sunset in Spain very different to Ireland and the UK though? Right now it's 5pm here and 6.30pm there. I imagine that plays a part.
It was a political decision by Franco in 1942: he wanted to be in the same timezone as his closest allies, those pleasant chaps called Mussolini and Hitler.

The Greenwich Meridian line actually runs straight through Spain - the EASTERNMOST part of it. They really should be in the same timezone as the UK and there have been campaigns to make the change.

Well well well, aren't you the history buff. fine

They will all take time to settle into a new country and new league. Foreign Manchester United new incomings also have the added pressure of the extra scrutiny and attention the entire sport has about our club.

Matic on bench instead of Pereira. Far better player.

Greenwood in over James too.
