I still think this is a mistake, he'll be Pogba's replacement and it'll also mean no Grealish who I think has a much higher ceiling, it also does nothing to solve our CM situation when Matic's battery runs out like it does after 7 or 8 games without lots of rest.

Grealish is hardly a CAM. He's more a CM or a LM - I don't think it's going to stop us getting him.

If is such an stupid question, then explain why funny guy

Who even cares. If you check top teams don't play with 10s. The ones that play have better players in their team so it doesn't make sense to add 60 million player

Not many clubs can afford 60 million, among the clubs that can offer that money, how many use 10?

That alone rules out Madrid, Barca, Atletico, PSG, Juventus (who don't even play Dybala as AM/ss),

That leaves only PL clubs, only City use AMs as CMs and they have KdB playing in that position.

Why other clubs aren't interested shouldn't be our concern, if he is the player who can improve and contribute well then that's the only thing that should matter.

Also Spurs wanted him last summer but didn't reach agreement with Sporting.

To be realistic - I think it's reasonable to expect that Bruno may not be a break-away success and may not even be able to help us too much this season. He will hopefully be better than some deadwood we have, but players need time to adjust to Premier League. Yes, we can get lucky and he may be an instant success, but a much more likely scenario is that it will take time. Bruno is not world class, he is more like Fred level and will be very valuable for us, but remember how long Fred took to become useful?

We should tame our expectations, and give guy some space, if we get him. Or for instant impact we should buy Grealish or Madison, but I don't see anybody selling those to us, certainly not in the Winter window...

What I like about this, is that he doesn't seem to need a lot of time on the ball and a lot of his dangerous passes are instinctive, first time attempts, or one touch and pass. Suggests to me he won't be overawed by the hustle and bustle of the prem.
I'm really impressed by his weight of pass. He has that Scholes like ability to make it check up with a bit of spin. Martial, Rash, Greenwood and James will love this guy.

Yes! I've noticed also that a lot of long passes these days are too floaty, his seem to dip quickly and either run on quickly into the space or spin and check, like you suggested.
Really hope he signs and even more, I hope he gets off to a good start. He'll be crucified if he doesn't.

Pros/potential:
- Best scoring stats in Europe for an attacking midfielder (last season scored 33 goals, this season so far scored 15 goals, very impressive!)
- Best player in Portugal league over past 2 season (same league as Joao Felix, the wonder kid who cost Athletico 113m)
- He can't be worst than Lingard/Pereira, hence a guarantee improvement for our no.10 role

Cons/Risk:
- Never prove himself in top level despite being already 25
- Failed in Serie A over 4 seasons
- His stats for Portugal national team isn't really good at all (2 goals in 19 games)

If he's Pogbas replacement we can still go for for Grealish. City have about 5 AMs. Why can't we have 2?

We aren't City, most teams don't carry two £50M+ players that are competing for a spot, I mean look at who we have competing for the front 4 spots right now, 4 of them are from the Academy and the one we brought in was a cheapie from the Championship. We are a club as a whole that struggles to bring one player in for a positioon let alone 2.

There isn't a silver bullet to our troubles. It will be a multiple transfer windows process.

I agree but more expensive mistakes aren't going to help the process.

Grealish hasn't played in a proper CM role that I've ever seen and playing off the left is pretty worthless to us as Rashford starts 95% of the time in the position.

Im still not sure about him, he seems too good to be true, player of the year the last two years in portugal, starter with Portugal, captain, great stats, leadership skills (captain), relatively young, for 50 million he seems a bargain why is nobody else interested?

What evidence do you have that "nobody else is interested"? There're reports that Barcelona want him in the summer and Valencia wants him on a loan.

Bruno has officially said that he wants to play in PL, so that may affect what he chooses to pursue. And we certainly don't know all of the negotiations going on. So "nobody else is interested" is a gross speculation.

He needs to be more than that. Otherwise you will be back in the market in 6 months looking for an upgrade on him. He simply needs to be of the level required to help us achieve what we want. There are only two levels. Good enough and not good enough. If you fall into not good enough, then he can have the consolation perhaps of winning the ‘Bruno, Mata, Lingard or Pereira’ argument, but it does little for us.
I agree with you on the levels.

But with all the desperation some fans feel right now, I hope he is given the time to settle into a very different culture and football league. Plus the insane level of focus he will be exposed to at Manchester United.

Hope fans have learned from examples like Vidic, Evra or even Fred that it can take time for foreign imports to fulfill their full potential and reach the level we all demand.

Ole played Pogba as a CM/DM this season, why would Bruno be Pogba’s replacement. Bruno is an upgrade of Pereira/Lingard and also supposed to be Mata’s replacement last summer, we couldn’t get Bruno in the summer so we extended Mata’s contract instead.

Yes, we are not City - we have more money than City... for now, but that won't last if we don't get our shit together.

And "competing for a spot" is an exaggeration. Pogba hasn't played all season and will probably end-up missing 2/3 of it. And he could be gone in the summer, so in reality - we may not actually have him. Not to mention that Pogba and Bruno are not necessarily playing the same position. Pogba can play most positions in midfield (except for DMF) but ideally you would have Pogba playing deeper alongside a good DMF, and Bruno playing further up. If you had a Kante-like superb DMF, it would make one kick-ass midfield.

He did last year for Villa last year in formation. And he still does it now when Villa are deeper and Grealish has to move the ball on from deeper areas - he goes on some really nice runs & in my opinion it's pretty much his main ability.

I don't even think Pogba will go to be honest - I don't think many clubs will want him, nor can afford his wages & it all could just fumble whilst he contemplates giving working with a new manager like Pochettino a go, that's if he ever really wanted to leave in the first place. Could be wrong though, never know.

Grealish is CAM. That’s his best position. He played CM because last season and early this season they played 433 formation but playing CAM in different formation. He played on the wing because Aston Villa has nobody quality in wide area. Ask any Villa fans they will say he’s CAM.

Okay long term I think he's a centre midfielder instead. I love the way he relieves pressure by his dribbling past 3 players in Central areas & that's hella useful in centre of midfield.

*And that post was to him saying that Grealish wouldn't come because of Fernandes - do you think that's true? That Grealish won't come because he is a CAM only long term?

Long term he’s a CAM. He’s an attacking mind player. Every Villa fans think that’s his best role & where he should focus on to reach his best potential. You can ask them, if you still have doubt. If we sign this guy then he’s very likely will play out of his favourite position which is wide area just like what happened to Mata.

I know Grealish is a LAM but long term at a club like ours Grealish isn't going to be our playmaker. Grealish is hardly creative man, Griealish's main ability is to get past players with ease & he is only being pushed up at Aston Villa because they need creativity any way they can get it & to be fair we need it to hence we chuck pereira up there at moment. Grealish the better he gets, the deeper he plays in my opinion - I don't see anything long term that tells me that this is the guys that should me setting up chances for Rashford & Greenwood or whoever is upfront - he isn't creative, he makes thinks move with his technique and his dribbling much more in the centre of the park like I saw last in in the championship when he played a bit more in midfield. Anyway il talk about it with you on the Grealish thread.

Some people (who are buzzing currently) in this thread will be very disappointed when they actually see him play.

Sporting faking an interest from Barca and us falling for it is still funny.

This guy is the epitome of Dumb & Dumber.

How would anyway one not involved in the negotiations know whether its the original price or we had negotiated a whopping discounted? Making conclusions based on fake, unconfirmed information and then prognosticating as though it was factual.

This typifies what wrong with the world and social media nowadays. Social media has given every idiot or bullshit artist a platform to voice an opinion. But the mistake people make is that they cant differential between opinions and facts. And Ryan, in this case, is clearly confused.

Will he be an upgrade on Peirera and Lingard? Yes 100%. Jonjo Shelvey would be a massive upgrade compared to them. So yes Bruno will upgrade the team which makes people happy not having to watch the other 2. I don't think people are expecting him to be Messi.

Some people need to realise that the rebuilding is MASSIVE. We can't do it with players 80m a pop. Bruno is a bigger risk then let's say Maddison is. However he'll cost us half the price and he's incredibly talented. My only worries is that he's a no 10. We haven't had a successful no 10 since Fergie time.

How badly have we needed somebody who can do this?

What gets me hard about that video is not that he's doing it against shit opposition. It is the speed in which he does it which is why I think we're taking the plunge but have been slightly withdrawn from doing so.

He doesn't dwell on the ball, take unecessary touches. His decision making his far quick than even his team mates can keep up with. He probably wont get the same numbers in the PL but he'll do alright.

It would be too obvious to put him on corners though. I don't suspect ole is clever enough. He'll leave them to Andreas and Mata.
... says someone who obviously only watched the preview picture and not the video itself. I don't think there was one corner or one set piece displayed in the entire video. :smirk:

That's now though, the guy is young and can learn. Many CAM play CM later on?

You said he's hardly CAM. But he is CAM. If Grealish is a truly CM, that means he can play even in midfield 2 not just in midfield 3. So far there is no indication that he is more of a CM than CAM.

And falling for conspiracy theories is even funnier.
