Paid the same price? Come on. You and I both know that's complete nonsense. The amount we are actually paying compared to what was quoted are significantly different. Unless, of course you're include the Ballon D'or and CL clauses in it. We both also know you and others will continue to repeat this until you're blue in the face.

As for the second part of your post? Well, thank you for confirming what I said in my original response.
It's the same talk that was mentioned for weeks, the clauses were there from the start, now we pay 55m euros+5m based on appearances, and another 5m if we qualify for the CL. That's the 65m euros that were mentioned weeks ago.

What did I actually confirm? That we are absolutely shambolic in the transfer dealing? I though that was a well known thing especially among United fans.

How are we the only* club in for a player like that?

Incredible.

*Only club with a sustained interest in him, not a fleeting connection in the press to sell some papers/get a few clicks

EDIT: These tweets probably offer a good explanation as to why. Here’s hoping the rest of Europe were wrong not to pull the trigger and we end up with a jewel:

All it took was the spector of another superclub swooping in last second to get us to seal this by agreeing to pay what Sporting were asking for all along

I'm glad it seems to be on in the end regardless of the tedious back and forth

Good on Ed signing Robson as well as Bruno, needed another media signing after Ashton hasn't moved the needle much

Imagine if we had him for the Burnley game and we'd won instead of lost, we'd have been three points from top 4 and not six.

How much did we save by haggling, and how much do we lose if those potential points (seeing as he's not likely to play against Wolves on Saturday either and we might lose points there too) end up costing us CL football next season?
It's unlikely he has an instant impact. We have learnt that with the likes of Sanchez, Mkhitaryan, Depay etc. Plenty of expensive summer signings in the PL have done nothing yet either.

How so? 15m in easy bonuses was always what Sporting asked for. We could have finished this deal a few weeks ago at the same transfer fee, maybe even lower.

Regardless, £46 million to £55 million for a cheaper alternative to Grealish and Maddison (not that they cant play in the same team) is a much better deal than the likes of £80 million for Maguire and £50 million for Fred

Not really suprised we ended up getting him. Looking back this kinda PR stunt always happens with united. Remember Lukaku in the summer when he was going to milan all summer than randomly Juventus were going to give us Dybala and Mandzukic in a swap deal? Think this was the same here just to get us to finally agree to pay so they plant a fake story.

Happy we get the player. Obviously its not enough and we are still extremely light but a step in the right direction for sure.

You actually believe that? Woodward loves fans like you.
It's funny how the most obvious of press briefs work on so many. Like candies to little children. Personal triumph to who exactly? Arnold? Does this make him feel better after paying 50m for Fred?

Do you know we would have scored 3 goals if Bruno was playing?

Imagine United is interested in your player in the Summer and you know they'll pay an extra 20% just to have the player a few days earlier. Would you be offering us a fair deal? Or would you rinse them for every penny you could?
We could do this all night with the "if you x then y?", so I'm just going to leave it there, but you really don't see the merits of getting a player in early during the transfer window than late? Especially during a period where games come thick and fast, the squad's depleted and the club is in crisis on the pitch?

I'm not saying we should've given them a flat €100m on Jan 1st, because that would be ridiculous, but after haggling for a month we've basically given them the same amount of money they've always asked for but made the bonuses easier to achieve than the ones we started out with. So what exactly did all the haggling do? It's not like they were asking for €100m in the beginning and our negotiators got it down to €40m. We're still paying them €80m with all bonuses included, so I ask again, could we have paid that same amount (that they were insisting on all along) earlier and had the benefit of having him in the squad earlier?

Is this guy going to be a player to have in Fantasy Premier League? Should we be expecting goals and assists?

I don’t think it’s a new strategy, we always had the upper hand and they wanted to cash in on him. It was obvious that we needed to hold our nerve and wait the window out to get a favourable deal. The number of people in this thread demanding that we spend £65m+ just to get the deal done because we needed a midfielder was ridiculous.

Why should we pay €60m for a player that Sporting have been actively trying to sell? They want to sell him we're the only buyers, we are right to be digging our heels in and force the price down.

It's unlikely he has an instant impact. We have learnt that with the likes of Sanchez, Mkhitaryan, Depay etc. Plenty of expensive summer signings in the PL have done nothing yet either.
Maybe, but we don't know because we spent the entire month of January haggling the price down from €80m to €80m. If nothing else he could've given the team a psychological boost and given us someone who was able to control a ball at no 10.

Good news, still need to get a forward in, whether that be a striker or a winger with rashford out.

Who's the young lad that went to Ateltico who is struggling?
My concern is it'll be a massive step up.

Bit tough to compare a teenager at the time who had less than 30 senior club appearances to someone in their physical prime who's been playing senior club footy in Europe for years tbf

Sorry mate, but no same human can believe the Barca links were genuine, or that it forced our hand in a matter of hours. If anything, it shows all the people that were losing their shit that they were right to haggle. Those people that just say pay up are usually the ones who like to quote how much money we've wasted on Maguire, Fred etc.
Well said. It still won't stop them, though.

The fee will be £46.5m plus £10 addons with £15.5 additional addons plus agents fees of £20m and wages are £500,000 costing over £30m over a 10 year period plus VAT

Remember everyone: If Bruno struggles here for a while don't throw him under the buss. It takes time to get used to the intensity in the Premier League.

This is the caf you're talking about.
Needing time is for the weak :wenger:

What’s gone on? I only went over to my Mums for a couple of hours and now we’ve got him?
Someone said Barca were in for him and in a puff of magic Ed and Matt came to their senses!

Nice to see the club taking a stand when it comes to transfer prices. You have to start somewhere, and if that meant us missing out on this deal then so be it. Obviously you won't be able to do this on every transfer as it also comes down to the selling club being happy to sell that particular player. Sporting seemed more than happy to part ways, which is not something you could say for Leicester in the summer. They would've held on to Maguire if we didn't pay the asking price.

So it's obviously dependent on the club you're dealing with and what player we're talking about, but it's a good start.

I'd basically given up hope for this and would have been tucked up in bed getting some sleep by 10, now I'm gonna be f5ing this thread with SSN on in the background all night. Thanks a lot Ed.

For all those complaining that it’s taken until now to seal the transfer - just enjoy the fact we got him. Transfers don’t just happen overnight, and no one is going to rush through a transfer just for the sake of a few games.

we got him. Just enjoy it and let’s hope he delivers

Anyone in a nervous dispersion don't look on twitter, plenty of pundits and people thinking he will sign for Barca over Utd , some even suggesting he has already agreed his contract with them :wenger:

@Smores I cant tell if you are backing up my case or quibbling over £5m

They were ok selling him because they had reportedly promised that they'd allow him to leave last summer and had to pay him and his agent a certain amount when it didn't come to fruition.

He's the one who's been desperate to move on for some windows now,not the other way and it's more than understandable. Sporting have been a shitshow on and off the pitch the last 2 years.
