We have all been tricked again! United are not doing anything...
We live in a black hole of hopelessness, there is no sunAre you referring to the rising of the sun?
I like Maddison but I think getting Fernandes in could also be useful because if we sign him for 60m we will have funds left over to sign two other players in the 40m -50m range and as we have seen our depth is appalling and we need 4 - 6 new players just to have enough bodies. I think we probably need 3 first team starters - a DM with good passing ability, a goal scoring AM and a wide forward - I would rather we blow a 100m+ fee on Sancho who will contribute immensely to the team's goal scoring and creativity than spend it on Maddison and possibly not have enough left over to fit in an attacker. If Bruno can come in an provide 20 goals plus assists in addition to his industry of the ball then that would be great.Assuming one marquee signing around the 100mill plus range, who would people prefer... Maddison or Sancho? I think signing Fernandes possibly negates a Maddison bid.

For once I would agree with Ed that Maddison isn't worth anything close to £100M. Maybe not even 80. But then he should not even be on our radar, if that is what he is priced at.
The more important question is: why the hell do we have any scouts at United, let alone the largest scouting team in PL? We never sign anybody who isn't obvious and already hugely overpriced. The only times, in recent years, that I can even remember us signing somebody relatively unknown was James (personal recommendation from Gigsy so nothing to do with scouts) and Diogo Dalot who is a complete and utter dud. He had only 6 games with Porto's senior team so I have no idea who saw what in him or why they thought he could play senior team at United, even before breaking into Porto's senior team, but clearly none of it worked at all.
I'm the same, thought it would be nailed on once the Benfica game was done, but it seems like we've made no progress there since then.
He's not worth what is quoted. We will end up overpaying quite a bit for a "finished article", instead of improving possibly 2 positions with that money. The Portugese league isn't amazing but if you are the undisputed best player in it you are a decent footballer. Hasn't he been scoring in Europe too?
If we don't see some movement on this today/tomorrow then I'm really in doubt if it'll happen.
Knowing Woodward he will probably leave it until the last minute of the window.
Think Old Trafford may be burned to the ground if City nick in and steal him without messing around.Reports today that City are preparing to gazump United and will offer £80M, compared to United's bid of less than Spurs offered in the Summer.....

That could well be true but the fact is we need a player now to remain competitive in the season and if he isn't the one then the club must have alternatives because how we finish the season will have ramifications on what we can do in the summer and what happens in the summer will affect what we will achieve next season. I don't think anyone expects him to score 20 goals from midfield and create dozens more but surely the Portuguese League isn't so shit that he would fail to achieve 20 gaols and assists over a full season - if he achieves that then he can help us to 5 to ten more points that we would never get with Lingard/Pereira or that extra 20m going towards the Glazers' dividends. He's not worth what is quoted. Seferovic has been scoring for fun for Benfica last season, even Rafa Silva. Joao Felix who looked like a special talent is having trouble adjusting to La Liga, which is much closer league in terms of style to the Portuguese one.
If we end up paying this for Bruno I can sense in 6 months time many will be saying we wasted our money and got nothing to show for it.

This is exactly what we should do. This one screams panic buy.
Why the feck do we need such an extensive scouting network when the only targets we have are 50m+ ones?
Well you need to get the 50m+ ones right too. Else you get Veron / Sanchez situations. A 50m player for us, is probably what a 35m player is for another club. No player comes with guarantees, so you scout the players ability under pressure, mental attributes, etc, so we dont end up with Depay again.
I doubt probability of us regretting Bruno is high. We are not looking for next Xavi here, for crying out loud! We need improvement over JLingz and Pereira, because those are who we are stuck with today! The bar here is pretty low.If we end up paying this for Bruno I can sense in 6 months time many will be saying we wasted our money and got nothing to show for it.
That would be hilarious. Regardless of transfers there will hopefully be visible protest against the ownership and Woodward going forward. The are sucking the life out of the club.Reports today that City are preparing to gazump United and will offer £80M, compared to United's bid of less than Spurs offered in the Summer.....
You know that Dalot is 20? Born same year as Chong. Think it is a bit early to conclude he is a complete and utter dud.For once I would agree with Ed that Maddison isn't worth anything close to £100M. Maybe not even 80. But then he should not even be on our radar, if that is what he is priced at.

which was an absurd statement anywaysHe'd also suddenly be good enough for us I would think after plenty saying he isn't
A 10m player is an upgrade on JLingz and Pereira. Even some of our academy players are upgrade on both.I doubt probability of us regretting Bruno is high. FFS, Fred is currently our best midfielder, carrying the whole team. Fred! Sure, he has improved, but he is not world class and yet we would be fecked without him. This is our reality!
It is not about aiming low. World class players won't join us right now - we need to get that simple fact. Years of mayhem has caught up with us! We need the likes of Fred and Bruno to get back into top4 and then we can see who comes to us
And Brandon Williams is 19. Yet you can see Williams is quality even if unfinished. Dalot is not. Besides, he had no business joining senior squad. Should have played in under 23s and gone on loan or somethingYou know that Dalot is 20? Born same year as Chong. Think it is a bit early to conclude he is a complete and utter dud.
We have an egoistical Fiorentino Perez wannabe driving our transfer policy, we didn't need to sign Maguire at that outrageous fee for the impact we all knew he was going to have but 'we can do things in the market that other clubs can only dream of'.This is exactly what we should do. This one screams panic buy.

He's just had injuries. He played for Porto's first team at 18 and he made 23 appearances for us last year. And Brandon Williams is 19. Yet you can see Williams is quality even if unfinished. You're only 'tricked' if you believe what people are saying, which if you read what Woodward and Ole have been saying the months coming up to the transfer window, we weren't going to do any major business anyway. We have all been tricked again! United are not doing anything...

Well if he's better we should spend the extra a 30/40 it would take.
Jesus, you just be very sensitive if you think an 80m bid is an insult. He's worth that much to Leicester. He's their main playmaker that could guarantee them CL. Us bidding 80m is frankly an insult and shouldn't be taken seriously.
Monday’s edition of Record reports the Lisbon club are firm: They want €60m plus a further €10m in bonuses for their player, ‘otherwise there’s no business’.
O Jogo’s Monday edition agrees that talks are continuing, and, just like Record, they state Sporting want €60m plus a further €10m in bonus payments.
A Bola disagree slightly, and say Sporting want €65m plus €5m in realistic bonuses, but, still, as has been the case since the story started, it’s made clear the Portuguese club want a headline figure of €70m.
He was even half decent when he came on yesterday!I wouldn't bother mate. I tired explaining that in another thread about Dalot, but I think some posters have just decided he's crap and that's that.
hes really promising, but bloody hell hes so injury prone. he and the club must sort that out or else he'll never amount to anything at united. He was even half decent when he came on yesterday!
