There’s no chance if a move was remotely close that he would have played tonight, starting to look a lot like summer this.

His stats are on another level so why aren’t there a line of clubs looking to sign him when it’s obvious Sporting need to sell and he wants a move? It’s all a bit odd.

No other major club needs him nor are they willing to stump up the fee Sporting want.

You’d think any serious club would be interested in a midfielder who’s scored around 45 goals in 18 months though.

Old Trafford is becoming the Theatre of Broken Dreams.

Well it looked so promising on Sky earlier in the day then Darren Fletcher gets on Radio 5 tonight and has absolutely flattened the good feeling around here about this deal actually happening. Pretty gutted that Simon Stone retweeted that interview as well who is seen as being very reliable when it comes to Utd transfer news.

The post match quotes from the Sporting manager suggest that Bruno has told him that he has made clear a desire to join us but that the ball is firmly in our court to make that actually happen.

One day we will sign a player with no prolonged transfer saga. We will make a bid, the bid will be accepted, the player will agree personal terms and that's that.

Just pay the money Ed or whoever deals with the transfers. Stop trying to play hard ball.

There was a time when this used to happen we would just be sitting there then out of the blue United have signed a player maybe even 2, it was like Christmas the excitement was so good.
Now these transfers such the heart and soul clean out of you they’re so drawn out and half of them don’t even happen

Fair play to Gary Cotterill from Sky Sports News who has been at the game tonight and is going big with his article on Bruno seemingly saying goodbye to the Sporting fans at the end of the match but will let you all draw your own conclusions on it.

Personally I am going to hope that he is well connected with this transfer but still worried until other reliable sources pick up on it as well.

If 70-80 million is true then there's no chance. About 50m with 5-10 mill in decent attainable addons seems the best they'll get.

The reports have been all over the shop in the last weeks that it's gone beyond farcical with how varied and contradictory they are.

According to the Sporting President, they had an offer from Spurs of 60 million with 20 million in very unrealistic addons of Spurs winning the league or CL. So essentially a 40 million bid.

50m plus some realistic addons should do but if the fee is 70/80 million now it's Money Bags United and they're offering him out with our injuries in mind along side another storm of fake media hype like last summer this is going nowhere.

Seems like a click-bait headline with nothing to back it up in the article.

I'm done with this saga. Will be back if we sign him. If not, this will be my last message in this thread. Peas.

He's probably going to be an average player, better than what we have right now in Lingard/Pereira, but still avgerage. He has good vision and technique, but not even close to Eriksen, Pogba, or KDB level.

Most of his goals are from FK/Penalties and some long shots that frankly any respectable keeper in the PL would save. He isn't super athletic and his tackling skills would make Scholes look like Kante.

There is a reason no clubs bought him last year as Sporting are massively overvaluing him. Based on the risk, i'd pay no more than £35m for what he'll bring as a rotation option with a small chance of being a regular starter for a top 6 side.

Any smart DOF would skip this transfer. It's not a home run and has too many risks for only bringing in an average quality player. But since we have the worst board in top flight football I'm guessing we'll pay £60m for him and in 2yrs we'll be wanting him replaced with someone proper.

I don't see anything special about him either, wouldn't be disappointed if we didn't sign him to be honest.

It's a bad sign if no one else is after him.

Got the song ready, guys (set to the tune of "Just The Way You Are" in case it wasn't bleeding obvious):

When I see your face
I know we're in the top 4 race
Cos you're amazing
Bruno Fernandes

Do we have any alternative target?

The fact that he played vs Benefica, I have really bad feelings about this.

Has it been a week?

Football is a game of technique and skill. Atheticism helps but skill, vision and technique are more important. He has shown all that in the portuguesse league. It's hard to know if that will translate to premier league. We had players from lesser leagues with great stats come and flame out and others have succeeded. We won't till he actually arrives. It's worth taking a flyer on him, his record is pretty impressive even for the portuguese league

Both sides are probably leaking to the press and trying to set the price closer to their valuation. I want him here, but I don't think we should continue to overpay for players. However these public drawn out transfer sagas need to stop. Ed has said before the publicity and attention of transfers is good for the brand. But it works the opposite. If he doesn't sign after all these public reports, fans will be angry and it will reinforce the image that we are incompetent. We need to go back to negotiating transfers privately and only leaking out when the deal is close to being finalized. Looks this deal was leaked out before the clubs had come close to agreeing to a fee.

If he’s worth more than that, somebody else will offer it and we can review our bid. He’s been touted around for nearly 9 months now and they’ve not had a single bite.

This is my feeling as well, I think the club realizes this isn't really the guy but the fanbase have convinced themselves he's the transfer we need due to his impressive stats in a weak league, and I think the club are trying to balance appeasing the fanbase that are getting on the Glazers while not paying stupid money for a player who isn't top tier and has only produced at a lower level so far.

I'm curious, is that judgement off a number of his games or just the one? Or is one pushing it?

Ed's gotta milk the transfer for all it's worth. How else is he going to present those inflated social media stats next year?

I understand the fans are desperate for a signing, but it can’t be just any signing. Given I am in Australia the only thing I know of Bruno is his stats as we simply don’t get to see any games involving his club Sporting. His stats sounds impressive but it is odd none of the other bigger clubs in Spain, Germany, Italy appear to have come for him which based on that alone rings alarm bells for me.

I am a bit suspect about Sporting
They say Bruno is worth all this money but the stumbling block seems to be they want most of it up front
If he is that good then there should be no problem with it being heavily incentivised but not based on winning the Ballon but goals scored and appearances made.
I am sick of us spending big money on players and being stuck with them as they just do not measure up and we are lucky to recoup decent money on their resale value.

They need more of the money now, not later. That's not really surprising or unusual. It says nothing about Bruno as a player either.
