He will cost more now, his release clause was lower in the summer.
What was his release clause in the summer? Most reports are suggesting fees significantly lower than his current release clause.

50-55m (like Stone said in the clip above) doesn't sound too bad. Thought he'd be more expensive, given it's the January window and all.

Can play as an 8 in a three man midfield or a number 10. I've never seen him play in a pivot, but I would say he has the engine to do so.

I can't see Ole moving away from the 4231, so say if we were to sign Fernandes, then he'd probably play as a 10 behind Martial. Unfortunately, that could potentially mean no Maddison/Grealish, who i'm a big fan of. Of course we could always drop Fernandes into the 8 like Ole did with Pogba, and buy a 10 in the summer.
Maddison is far more equipped to play as an 8 than Bruno Fernandes would be IMO. Bruno is pure #10 for me. Wouldn't work with him deeper.

Sure Martial and Rashford will be happy to get some decent service. Maybe their runs will be noticed now.

Taking adapting from a weaker league into account I doubt he'll offer MUCH more than Pereira this season, was hoping more we'd unearth some Kante regen from France

This is a good point.
Regarding the unearthing of gems - we don't do that. Our scouts haven't unearthed a gem in several years, which leads me to believe that they too, are (massively) under performing.

55 mill pounds is being cited as what United is paying now. Not sure what the price was in the summer.
When we were linked with him in the summer it was rumoured to be 50m, he then signed a contract extension which supposedly raised it to 85m. @SportingCP96 should be able to clarify.

If we get him for 55m that's some great negotiation by Woodie, or we could be sending a player as part of the deal.

Looks like you're getting it done

You should've got someone like him in the summer. This feels to me like when you were linked with Ander Herrera, dispatched that hit squad to Bilbao but too late to sign him then just got him a season later. Similar with Maguire.

Decent player who can continue to grow and you're getting him for half the price as say a Ruben Neves. Need 4-5 more of those types though if you're to seriously challenge for league again in next few years.

It seems like it would be a good signing but as you say why have we delayed from the summer when he needed him? Now the season has become a rescue mission if he joins.

Because of a player who will likely shoot everytime he’s within 40 yards of goal?

We have not yet signed him (hopefully we will).
We haven't seen him play in the EPL.
We haven't see him play in our team.

We need to wait for several things to happen before we can judge how good he will play with Martial and Rashford.
People need to realise that he is not a Messi or Ronaldo type player who have the ability to win a game almost single handedly. He is merely a good player for another team and there are no guarantees on how good he would be for us.
Miki was the player we were crying out for (the best creative goal creator in Germany), yet a year or so later, he was finished.

would be if it wasnt contradicting since he wants to unearth a unknown gem from weaker french league

He was available for £58m(€65m). Spurs offer collapsed due to them wanting to pay €20m in PL + CL winning add-ons. Their president confirmed it a few months ago.

We need bodies through the door and he's the type I don't mind taking a punt on.

Lingard could do a job for Sporting. I´m actually serious.

If this comes off then it’s going to be a definite upgrade on where we are - Portuguese players generally adapt very well to the PL - but when your being compared to Matic or J-Lingz then the level you need to arrive at ain’t high - I’d be really happy with this signing as this is a guy who knows how to find the back of the net.....

It is done lads.

The question is why did we not do this in the summer? I’m happy we are getting him, but this just reeks of desperation/lack of planing.

Weird!

Poch wanted him in the summer at Spurs. We are talking to Poch and forward planning for his arrival by signing players he likes.

Maybe. Maybe not.
