Uhm that's basically what Lingard and Mata usually do mate. The so called running and passing sideway. You forgot the point of to cause gaps in their defence by doing this we need to do it really fast. Like switching flanks with a single pass. And as our FB are basically sht going forward teams won't easily fall for this trick, if we do so. Our best option still is to find our trio forwards with a direct pass between the lines, which is what we're currently doing.Keeping possession, forcing the opposition to move from side to side chasing the ball will eventually cause gaps in their defence.
However I got the point you and most posters here are criticizing Bruno. He needs to go for simpler and easier options in certain situations. Like yesterday Rashford making a good run past a defender and he decided to do a difficult curve pass to Martial who was marked by another defender and the pass was blocked by the defender that Rashford got through. Would be much more dangerous if he just did a simple straight pass through Rashford.
