I feel like this has been coming. He's been giving the ball away a hell of a lot almost every match since the lockdown ended, and the last few matches it's really felt like he needs to dial it back a bit. The way he plays he's always going to give it away a fair bit of course, but he's been going overboard and regularly giving it away with what should be very simple passes.

Let's be honest - if Lingard or Pereira had had that performance today they would be getting raked over the coals. Well, they wouldn't have been in as many good positions to give it away as much, but still. It was nowhere near good enough and hopefully he'll get back to a decent level soon.

He has a low bottom level. When he’s not affecting the game it’s pretty bad. He’s got lots of money in the bank though. It’s his first bad game.

As has been said, its been coming. Think he's been poor for 3 games now, despite still posting good numbers.

He needs to start keeping things simple when its not his day. In 2nd half all we needed was someone to keep possession and control the game. A one off day is fine especially after playing so many games.

His lowest level reminds me of Rooney on his pub player-mode days. Can't even make the simplest of passes, just mistake after mistake.

He has been worryingly erratic with his passing in a lot of games lately.
I wouldn't go this far. His role as the 10 is to take risks in creative passes at a far higher rate than the likes of Matic and even Pogba.

Of course, but he's misplaced some basic passes lately too. Not just the adventurous ones.

I was worried people were becoming overly excited. Hopefully it's just fatigue and he's over-compensating by going for too many killer passes.

In most matches Bruno tries a lot of low percentage through-balls etc, most don't come off, sometimes the execution is horrible. He got an assist today for a straight-forward pass to Martial and there was a nice flick that set-up a Pogba shot, the rest of his performance wasn't up to much. One shocking spell when he failed to clear the first man with a wide free-kick, cleared straight back to him, only for his cross to be even worse.

This was his worst performance for us.

However just as I said in Pogba's thread. Subbing him and Pogba off was stupid,

Still got an assist...
But yeah poor game today for sure. Not often you'll have both Bruno and Pogba have poor games. Happens.

We cant expect he plays every game like he has been played, its obviously a patch and well get this kind of performances from time to time, still he got an assist.

He is our only 10 and getting burnt out.
Not just him. Literally half our squad needed to be rotated today.

Also, you know the guy is insanely good when on his worst performance for the club he collects an assist and half the CAF posters argue that he should have stayed on.

The man reminds me of Ozil's talent, but with the workrate of Park. Even on his off days, he still works his ass off. What a player we have on our hands.

Yup.

Dont think him staying on would have changed much though, we were just collectively off and knackered today.

He spots the best pass but unfortunately he doesn't want that extra second to set himself. It could have made a difference today.
This is exactly it.

We know he has a mandate to get us moving quicker than we have in recent seasons, however, not all situations need an immediate execution of a pass.

Think he was always going to have a bit off a drop off. His form when he joined was insane, almost unsustainable. TBH we could also do without drawing early conclusions or unrealistic expectations on new additions. They almost always look world class in the first month. Martial, Rashford, James, Ighalo, Matic, Maguire, AWB, Bailly etc. The law of averages will also meet up with Greenwood at some point. It's partly opponents adjusting to the player and the adrenaline pump of joining a new club wearing off

He's still comfortably an important piece and a threat to create at any point in a match. The results and production speak for itself

Needs to contribute more to our possession play. At the moment he's leaving Matic and Pogba with far too much to do. They need somebody to play off and link up with. And he was terrible last night. He's excellent in the final third but as a midfielder we need him in other areas too.

As it was said here already he's someitmes too quick with his passes, always wants to make it imidiately and sometimes you need to take some time, few more seconds and it's a correct pass not a misplaced one. Also sometimes he should go back to midfield, not always be near the box and around the box but that's our structure problem overall. Saying all that even with a bad game like that he popped an assist. He's clearly fatigued and that needs to be adressed somehow. I'm not sure he should be dropped for Palace but it's not sustainable.

He had poor game, he is high risk player. No matter what, he will always be this kind of player. When he pulls them off, it creates goals, when he gives away possession in games like this it's frustrating.

If people have expectations to change his game to retain possession or cut out the risks, then they will be disappointed all the time.

His final passes are erratic in last 2 games, with better passes we could have had couple of goals easily.

And if Tony had taken that early chance in the second half I think it would have been game over. If he had scored the one on one in the first, it would have settled the nerves. If Pogs wasn't so casual for the first goal...

A lot of things went towards losing 2 points, not all on Bruno. One of the significant things is the lack of quality subs to replace him and Pogba. At City it's seamless. We need to get to that level.

I didn't say it was all on Bruno. Since this is Bruno thread, it would be weird to bring Rashford and Martial missing chances. This thread is for analyzing Bruno's performance, so I dont think there is anything wrong in saying he should have done better in the final third.

Oh there isn't. He and Pogba were operating at about 60% last night. My point is that, players like him aren't helped when others don't step up.
We've relied on him and I'm sure he will take responsibility. Expect a reaction...positive one ;)

Well yeah, even in the post you quoted I said he is high risk player and always will be. I have no problem with that, infact I love players who takes so many risks. He is very positive player, first instinct is to create chance.

It was just a general point that his passing was off in final third today, which I think is a fair observation and point.

Much like Mason he was completely silent for the entirety of the game, but he will get some well deserved pass because he did a shiitload of good stuff since he came in. Hopefully he'll learn from this experience and adjust his game.

Sorry?
Aren't helped when others dont step up? Martial stepped up, Rashford stepped up, Shaw stepped up, Lindelof was good.

Bruno was shocking last night, alot of his balls into the strikers were off. His worst game for us, he needs to get back to keeping it simple.

There you go, when has he ever kept it simple? He was always a risky player, if you want him to keep it simple then Ole shouldn't bother to play him at all. We have Lingard to keep it simple.

What I mean is when things are tough, like they were yesterday, play 3/4 simple passes and get a foot hold in the game, drop deeper to help the team gain territorial advantage.

The balls he gave away today was not him trying to force things, they were uncharacteristic mistakes from him.

One of those games where nothing came off for him. Another reason why I don't feel nervous about the next games, there is no chance that Bruno plays this badly again.

Yesterday Southampton had 6-7 players in our half pressing like maniacs, just one good pass would have opened them up and we did open them up few times. He just had a poor day, he is all action midfielder and plays at very high tempo. That's why he is so good.

Going back to his Sporting days, I've always been critical of his looseness in possession; whether it was the inconsistency of his passing or inability to shield the ball under pressure, so I don't agree with those claiming fitness was the reason for this. He's always been like that.

This is one of the main reasons I'm not sold on our midfield 3 either. Pogba and Matic are slow off the mark and can be easily overrun, so if Bruno's giving the ball away 7/8 times out of 10, it leaves us so vulnerable to counters.

We could maybe get away with him being so loose when he was playing in front of Fred and McTominay, but it's too big of a problem in front of Matic and Pogba.

His technical ability is class. His quick one-touch passes, flicks and short passes is absolutely genius.

The team as a whole did not perform particularly great what so ever. The team does look completely knackered though for sure.

Knowing him he will bounce back next game with a goal and an assist.

Up 2-1 United should have even able to see that off. No need to panic though, these are things the club can use to grow.

No worries on my end :)

It’s impossible to be annoyed with him when he plays badly. Even when every pass goes straight to the opposition, he works his bollox off to win the ball back. I tend to be hard on flaky, creative players but if they all had his work ethic I’d be a hell of a lot less critical.
