Feel like he’s playing like one. There’s a sense of leadership and fighting spirit in him.

I also want to highlight Arsenal’s VAR goal. Last season that’s given because Maguire doesn’t complain. We need that shithousery from our captain.

Yep, seemed weird to me when Harry came on and took the armband off him.

Not his biggest fan, far from it but this is the right decision.

Agree completely about the complaints after the disallowed goal. It made me remeber that Everton goal a couple of years back when De Gea got fouled during a corner and no one from our side said anything about it to the ref.

I’d still lean more towards Varane (though I guess language plays a part). Martinez would be a good shout for me too - he’s fluent in English (but he’s new)

I guess Bruno is the way to go. He’s had a decent couple games on the back of it too.

I think it’s good that there are a few more characters in the team that can lead. I expect Casemiro to be another one, once he’s fully integrated

I don’t hate Maguire as much but for his own good he needs to stop being our captain.

The captaincy lifts his performances and the starters don't seem aggrieved by it. As I'd guessed at the start of the season. ETH wouldn't want to rock the boat too much by formally changing the captaincy but if Maguire doesn't play then he's just the admin leader, which probably suits him.

I was surprised to see Maguire take the armband off Bruno when he was brought on.

I'm not obsessed with who is captain like much of our fanbase are, but that action suggests a shocking lack of self awareness. At best, it's misplaced confidence.

You were surprised the club captain got the armband? What next? You’ll be surprised when the designated penalty taker takes a pen? Or the manager gives the pre match press conference?

Such a clever post, you showed him!

I think Maguire will accept this, the permanent change will surely be made. Wonder if it’ll actually help Maguire improve his game a bit, with the reduced pressure.

I didn't notice he had it on until they were walking round applauding after the game. Did Maguire to go Fernandes or did Fernandes go to Maguire?

He couldn't really not take it, and in fairness it would have been more of a story had Maguire come on and not been given the armband and we don't need those kind of stories bubbling in circumstances that don't really matter.

Are you being deliberately obtuse? None of those analogies function, the guy was brought on towards the end of the game as a sub. Bruno has been captaining us for four games in a row and has been playing well, Maguire on the other hand has been shite for over a year and his captaincy is being questioned by the fans, pundits and if reports are to be believed - the dressing room.

Not taking the band would have been very easy part way through the game, and would have displayed a bit of respect for Bruno and acknowledged his own struggles and shown a bit of dignity. Instead he's shown an inability to read the room and potentially pissed off some of his own team mates and displayed as I say a complete lack of self-wareness.

Will he accept though, if he took the band off Bruno with only a short amount of game time left?

I'd have liked to have seen the interaction, and as the poster has questioned above - whether Bruno went to Maguire or the other way round. If it's the former, it's less bad.

He was always the obvious choice, it baffled me when people argued that “Maguire isn’t the best, but we don’t have anyone better”. Even when not playing at his best, he’s always running, fighting, talking to players and leads (or tries to) by example. And you can see how connected he is to the squad when you see the behind-the-scenes footage like the pre-season vlogs.

I doubt that ten Hag will make a permanent switch this season but hopefully he (unless someone like Varane/Martinez step up) will become our de jure captain next season.

I'm pretty sure Bruno went over to Maguire and gave it to him - which is a classy touch from Bruno to be fair.

I'm sure Bruno must've offered to him, but I'd want my captain to ask the one wearing it to keep it for the rest of the game.

Along with Bruno it feels like we have a few leaders in the squad now. I think that's one thing that's been sorely lacking for years. Maybe Ten Hag doesn't want to rock the boat too much but I do think sooner or later he'll have to remove Maguire from the role

Every captain takes the band when they come on. It is just the done thing. If Henderson comes on late for Liverpool he’s take the band. It wouldn’t matter who went to who, he’s the club captain and therefore he’s the captain when on the pitch. You’re the one making a deal out of nothing, not him ‘having an inability to read the room’.

I’ve always been a fan of lots of leaders in the squad with the right mentality which I think ETH is starting to create, Fernandes has looked so much better with the responsibility of the armband and without Ronaldo on the pitch.

In Fernandes, Varane, Casemiro and Martinez we’ve got a good starting core of leaders in the squad and I guess if Ronaldo knuckles down we could add him. We’re starting to see a real shift in mentality at the club and I think ETH should be applauded for his man management.

Trust me when i say if Bruno hadn't protested the foul leading to the Arsenal goal it would have stood, he's a proper winner would cheat or cause a fight so as to win football matches for our club that's what we all want to see.

Yet people want this part of the game gone. He moans too much at the ref apparently. I saw on twitter his alleged quotes saying, 4 minutes before Martinelli was pushed and was pushed and that was a foul, so this should be too.

Bruno being in the ref's ear for his team mates, its not because he is fouled or something else. He is doing it purely for the team.

One of the sweetest aspects of the new resurgence is how quiet the moaners have to keep.

can't argue with the results whilst he's been captain. The one player i notice more and more issuing instructions though is Varane. I know some have mentioned his english, not sure what language he's been shouting in, but he's been certainly been getting his point across both verbally and with his performances. I'd edge more to giving it to him, but I can't see ETH taking away from Bruno now.

Yup. He was in ref's face in a second. Maguire would probably just stand there with a sad face.

Responsibility includes sending emails for Ten Hag and a lot of telemarketing.

I like having the captain in the middle of the pitch, he can get involved more with the refereeing decisions.

Complaining comes naturally for him than Maguire. When Maguire does it, it seems forced and reactive . Also his game seems to have raised considerably since he's taken charge.

I liked Brunos response to all this captain nonsense... As he said there is a leadership group.... Everyone has their roles... His role is to moan at the Reff. Others are there to keep heads cool... Others are there to bark.... When Henderson comes on as a sub at pool he's given the arm band. It's such a nothing burger and csn never understand the obsession about who is the captain.

Bruno can challenge for permanent armband but no decision should be made after just 4 good games. Like the manager says - we need high standards.

Spot on. That was pathetic, how we let it go. Didn't even complain for a legitimate foul.
