Breaking News: Freddie Flintoff to retire from cricket

Johnson's pretty rubbish (but he somehow dicks wickets). Lee's finished.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and Flintoff's a champion. And anyone who doesn't love him needs their head checked.

Ask the South Africans how rubbish they think Johnson is.

Have you missed the last 8 months of cricket?

Johnson's the new Lee of old. Just fast.

He has the ability to dick wickets even whilst bowling incredibly shit, which is good I suppose. But really he's overhyped and overrated, once he learns how to do stuff witht he ball he should become one of the best out there, but until then he's nothing but a decent fast bowler.

Zing had it about right. You clearly don't watch much cricket.

Bollocks. He's an old man who can't hit 90 mph now. He's useless and to be honest I'd rather Lee be in the Aussie team than have Johnson bowling at us. Johnson is the better bowler but I reckon he will be dropped for Lee which is good for us English!

Rubbish. Lee was bowling upwards of 95 mph in the tour match prior to the first test. Given a good wind, he could bowl upwards of 97-98mph.

Siddle will lose his position before Johnson.

Nonsense.

You've seen only the first two tests and seen that he gets wickets when he's bowling shit, and just made up rubbish.

Bollocks.

He was hitting that speed at the Oval last ashes series. He hadn't bowled that fast since the world cup in 03. With a good head wind, its quite possible Spoony. People forget that Brett still had the ability to turn pace at the start of the season, but he couldn't sustain that pace. Now that he's cleared of any leg injuries, he'll be back to his best.

Isn't it a bit stupid and fecking retarded how people are saying Flintoff is overrated and crap then saying England are fecked without him? England have a very well balanced team nowadays with class in all positions. Bowling wise Anderson is one of the best variety bowlers out there, Flintoff is excellent at bowling. Batting we have Pieterson, Cook, Strauss, Flintoff, Bopara and even Collingwood and do a decent job.

No, Flintoff isn't as good as the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Herschelle Gibbs or even Kevin Pieterson. And no, Flintoff is not as good as the likes of Warne, Lee and Pathan. But how many of them on the this "super" list can do both equally well? None.

He's comfortably better than Pathan at both bowling and batting.

Am I the only one who found greekscavenger's post a bit odd?

Nope. I was going to reply but didn't know where to start.

That said, it's a bit rich of you, Tabatha.

It probably is.

He just seems to be a bit all over the shop.

States that England have a balanced team and that anyone who says they’re fecked without Flintoff is retarded yet when he lists their qualities with the bowl and bat, he puts Flintoff in both. fecked is probably too strong of a word but there’s no denying the hole Flintoff is going to leave in that team when he goes. Especially away from England.

I also found his choice of players at the end a bit irregular.

What i'm trying to say is, Some are amazing at one thing, shit at the other, flintoff is VERY GOOD at both. Take Anderson for example, excellent bowler, crap battesman, Don't think Yuvraj Singh can bowl well either...

Mitchell Johnson.

Test match hundred in his career & average's 32.

For me, the only reason why he's kept his test spot this summer.

Nonsense.

He's seen Johnson far more than that, I'm sure.

Johnson's only swung the ball for one series in his life. He's a player whose success really winds me up because, like cesc, I've never considered him an outstanding bowler, except for the South Africa series when he was swinging it both ways and in the best form of his career.

I don't think there can be much doubt that prior to that series he had a consistent and remarkable history of taking loads of wickets without looking as threatning as the other bowlers in the side.

If he makes his South Africa series form a habit then I'll have to acknowledge his quality, but I hope he doesn't because watching him come in with that horrendously ugly round-arm action for the next ten years is not a prospect I'm looking forward to with any relish.
