They want it promised, not earn it

"Promised" is just the headline. He didn't actually say that. He said there's no point sitting on the bench if he can play elsewhere, which is true.

Exactly. I’d rather half the squad had his mentality.

To be fair, they do. It is us who then refuse to allow players to leave more often than not even when they want games. The likes of Lingard, Henderson, Martial, VDB had been held prisoner by United almost. Ralf has changed that a bit.

He can feck off -
Another Billy Big Balls thats done nothing in the game

Very strange take, he seems ambitious and want's to play, you need to respect that. He never spoke ill of the club or said he didn't want to play for us but he want's to play, not sure you read that right..

Whether here or elsewhere, I think he'd be better off being converted into a central midfielder. Defensively he is poor, but his ability to keep the ball under pressure, dribble, produce quick 180 turns at the drop of a shoulder, and his impressive range of passing would all be more beneficial centrally than at full back where his poor defensive play outweighs the benefits he brings on the ball.

That's the most surprising thing I've noticed about him at Norwich. I always knew he could dribble and carry the ball well, and knew of his defensive limitations, but his passing this season has been very impressive.

Absolutely. It’s mainly due to our attitude and history to academy players that if any of them show anything above completely useless, we want to keep them around due to some DNA spiel I suspect.

With good timing, we could have probably gotten £80m for Henderson, Tuanzebe and Williams alone - all at no particular loss to the first team. We’ll be lucky to get 5m for Axel this summer. Tbh it wouldn’t surprise me to read posters saying he should be back here as first choice next season as they seem to have been saying that for 3 years with no justification at all.

I’m happy we eventually did good business on James too, although Ole seemed very reluctant!

Agreed with all this - we need to be more ruthless in letting our youngsters go. Shove buy-back clauses in if we think their might be something there (though really, there hardly ever is)

It's amazing that Tuanzebe is still our player.

Been an excellent loan, the type we should do more as he has potentially put us in a position where we can get 15-20m this summer for him now.
No way we'll get 15-20m for him. Sure the club will probably ask that much, but we'll only get 10m IMO.

Norwich been asking 30m for Max Aarons, 20m+ they sold Godfrey for. It depends on the calibre of club we can rope into an auction, but if we get anywhere near Southampton, Everton, Villa then 15m-20m is perfectly reasonable I think. Villa bought Matt Targett for 25m.

You might be right, but the club should definitely push for a good fee. Afterall, if Palace can pocket £50m for Wan Bissaka after just 1 good season, then there's a good case to be made about Williams being valued at £20m. The English Tax should help as well.

I'd hope we put a buyback in the contract. He's definitely a decent player, with the capacity to get better, but still not sure he'll be quite good enough.

The reason we were struggling to loan him out is because he is on quite a big contract for a player of his profile so we’re not going to get a massive fee for him because of that. £12-15 million with a buy back of around double that amount sounds about right to me.

Agree.
He’s just trying to earn a living. Not sure what the post about him having done nothing in the game was all about

I don't see any point what so ever of keeping BW. The only think he has going for him is his home grown status. As a footballer, he is not very good - certainly not top half of the PL anyway.
Let's put aside how much of a fighter and hard worker he may or may be, we can't keep players who aren't good enough and BW simply isn't.
I like him and I wish he was better than what we already have, but he isn't and we need to move him on.

As above, we really do need to get better at moving on fringe players. We seem to just have this utterly bizarre habit of hoarding them.

Transfers rather than loans. Take what we can get, include buy back clauses for anyone under 25.

All this.

Reading the Norwich forums they like him but don't think he's good enough for us. They like his character and guts but he's poor positionally and makes mistakes defensively. There's even a thread about playing him in midfield because he so bad at the back and they want to negate it but keep his tackling in the side. He's like a poor version of AWB.

It's time to cash in after a successfulish loan. I'm surprised at the high prices on here. He's on high wages for such a young player at £43kpw. I think that would make him Norwich's top earner until Pukki signs his new contract for £50kpw. I'd be happy with £7m rising to 10m with add ons plus a sell on clause such as 25% of anything over £10m and let him go to Norwich if they want him. If we do the same with Tuanzebe and Chong that will add nicely to the summer transfer kitty.

What a glowing endorsement

I really like Brandon and hope we get him a good club. I think he will go on to have a good career in the mid - low level PL.

Just hope we don't keep him dragging on until he leaves on a free one day.

I like the kid. Under more stable management he couldve been a good squad option. However I really hope we sell him for a decent fee. Its frustrating watching everyone flog their unwanted players for millions while we somehow end up getting peanuts for even big names

Full back is the most important position in the modern game and we have:

Willliams 0 goals and 1 assist in 26 games

AWB 0 goals and 0 assists in 24 games
Dalot 0 goals and 0 assists in 22 games

His competition who we know aren't great but have
Shaw 0 goals and 5 assists in 26 games
Telles 1 goal and 2 assists in 18 games

We are already full of enough medocrity in the squad to keep Williams

Williams and AWB
Both have issues with defensive positioning, tackle well, work hard and don't offer much going forward but are nice lads. The definition of Manchester United player in the 2020's. All are perfect for a fat contract extension and to be a squad player in a team choc full of mediocre squad players and few first 11 players.

See also Tuanzebe, Bailly, Jones, Pereira, Lingard, McFred...

We have to stop doing this. Norwich is a good club for him to get a great career if we sell him at the right price for them. I would rather we helped Williams with his career than get more money in.

Hope he finds a good club that he can play for.

not good enough for us but I respect his desire to play games elsewhere instead of being on our bench.

The club should not block him from moving on, they can easily find a solution that is good for everyone involved.

Yeah harsh take. He wants to play football what's wrong with that. I think it's fair enough he doesn't want to come back to our bench especially as he will never be good enough.

He’s been decent for Norwich. Should be a comfortable sale to a side lower down the league.

We overpaid though (as we always do). Big club buying from smaller club, AWBs ceiling looked higher, Brandon being on much higher wages before the sale etc. I don't think the AWB deal can be used as any sort of benchmark here.

Watched Brandon play with no fear as an attacking full back in our youth team and u23's. He shone as a potential star of the future. The move to 1st team was too soon and caught him out, he wasn't ready, postionally he was poor but you could never fault his attitude.

Norwich fans seem to concur.

I dont see him making it here unless someone invests time in him and coaches him....sitting on the bench just ain't gonna work. Wish him well but future is elsewhere

No, it is not. Striker is the most important.

We have Ronaldo and Cavani and it ain't doing shit for us.

PSG have Mbappe, Dortmund have Haaland, Spurs have Kane, Chelsea have Lukaku and Juve have Vlahovic and it ain't doing shit for them either.

what is wrong with what he said? every body always slags players off for sitting on the bench every week and collecting there wages. he wants to play?

good attitude

Nowhere did I say "having a top striker is a measure of success".

The English tax mostly exploit clubs that play in Europe, as they need depth while meeting the quota requirement.

Other than that, teams only accept inflated British fee on very talented players with potential resale value. We would do well if we can con some clubs to pay that "potential tax" like Liverpool did with Ibe and Brewster. I don't have that high hope on our youngsters like Brandon William though.

So how did his Norwich stint go? Is he ready to take the next step or that's his level?

He's done well there, improved quite a bit, still made some silly mistakes but that happens with young players.

I can see him being a full back that ETH likes, very proactive and tidy with the ball. He will be getting a glowing assessment from Rangnick by all accounts as well.

One of those that will definitely get a fair crack of the whip during pre season imo.

I would doubt that he is the long term answer on either side but he has the versatility to play both fullback positions and I also think he could do a job deployed in a defensive midfield role a la Phil Neville. He is at the very least a far better player than either Dalot or Telles and if he had been on the pitch on Tuesday it is a fair chance there would be few injury worries at Anfield ahead of the merseyside derby.

Or he could play as a inverted FB like Cancello does from the left.

Feel like he's at his level.

That sure is a wide range of answers there.
I really like his dirt bag assholish personality so I certainly hope ten hag takes a good look at him as I feel our squad lacks his type of character.
