Boubacar Kamara | Signs for Aston Villa

This one makes too much sense. As much as I'd love Tchouameni and Rice, we'd be realistically looking at 50/60m and 100+m for them respectively. Kamara is a useful player and will be a free agent. He's young, can cover CD and will improve lots. Also, I can see him suiting Ten Hag down to the ground as he currently plays Edson Alvarez in DM who is a player of a similar profile (i.e. also a CD). Yes, the sign on fee and wages will probably be lofty but it shouldn't be too bad. Allows us to strengthen in other positions which is increasingly looking critical.

Hopefully we act fast. There's a risk of chasing Rice or Tchouameni only to be priced out of a move for Rice and for Tchouameni to choose another club and by then Kamara would have gone to another club

Right on, bring Kamara in and spend big on a CF is the best way to go. Problem is our club hierarchy seems to be obsessed with Rice.

Dare I say, why shouldnt we go for both a Rice/Tchouameni AND Kamara, he is free after all, especially with chance of Pogba/VDB/Matic all moving on and neither of McFred are especially defensively adept and before people scream of no creativity we still have Hannibal as well

Kamara (22) Kessie (25) and Mazraoui (24) all available for free this summer, in positions we need. All are on low to lowish (Kessie) wages and would improve us. They are valued at £85m in total on Transfermarkt. It will be interesting if we try to sign any of them and would be a big change in direction for us. I think Rudiger is much less likely as we don't play a back three often and neither do ETH or Poch. He's more likely to go abroad if he leaves Chelsea.

The biggest downside is it looks like no decisions on players until the manager is in place, so May/June at the earliest, which may be too late for the players who may have already decided where they want to go.

Because we don't think there is a need for two midfielders which is totally ridiculous

Cause rebuilds at a snails pace are our thing, we did the 2 midfielders thing with Schneiderlin & Schweinsteiger that’s so 2015.

Yeah and neither of them worked out, Bastian was well past it and Schneiderlin just couldn't deal with the step up

So that one went over your head. I was highlighting the fact we haven’t really bought 2 established CMs in one window nearly a decade despite the need.

This place some times. Calm down lad

Hard to be calm when this team hasn't had a decent midfield for about 13 years

We signed a bang average midfielder and a crock, witht the sheer number of quality midfielders about this summer, surely cant sign so badly if we do

Lets hope not but not even signing one last summer was telling. Mind you, read threads on here and its quite shockign to me how many think Fred or/and McTominay have been good in that role

Kamara and Masraoui are excellent free agent options that we must push the boat out for because getting them on a free, even accounting for £20m each on signing on fees, is a lot cheaper than spending at least £40m on either and allows us to spend more in attack. If we go for serious and talented options like Rafinha, Nunez or anyone of that ilk we need to spend at least £120m. There is no way the Glazer sanction that and further outlays on midfield and De fence but a new RB and DM are so crucial if we are going to add steel and higher quality ball circulation in our team.

Unless Elanga has a storming end to the season we need a striker and a RW to replace Ronaldo and Greenwood. Danger and creativity on both flanks is so important and it allows space for central players.

The CM role is important too but I feel that, if we strengthen the DM, we now have extra insurance that allows us to play Garner who has the skill set to develop into a good CM. If he fails Fred and McT will always be there but I don't think that if given support and patience he'd fail.

Well let's hope so. Good player available on a free, DM, young, let's sign Declan Rice for £100m

Would be very happy with this if true, terrific price for a talented player.

I really don't get why clubs don't announce those things immediately if true.

Can't get the social media interactions with a quick announcement like that

Sure I read a report that he'd agreed a deal with Atletico for the summer. Seems like his agent trying to drum up business.
By telling people he’s already agreed to sign for somebody else? Would be a weird way to do it.

He also has to play the rest of the season with his club and not get injured, so it's only a pre-contract agreement - hardly worth of an announcement.

Would love it if true. I keep banging on the drum but we need to take advantage of the free signings this summer. Brozović extended with Inter and Kessie is joining Barca, while Kamara seems perfect for us as a DM. With the amount of shit we need to do this summer, if we can solve a big problem with a high potential player on a free, thats ideal. Worst case scenario he is a better squad player than anyone we have anyway.

Agree and not seen a summer before I can remember where there are so many good free options. It has to be a consideration, but it shouldnt be all about "we need to do loads this summer, we need to do some free signings as part of that"....it should still be "this player can potentially improve our first eleven" as we do already have a big squad and a lot of those players are in reality squad players, its the first eleven needs improving rather than the squad.

Personally though they are both good players Kessie and Brozovic didnt excite me that much. And then there are other very good players like Dybala and Dembele who would still cost a lot and personality/injury issues/attitude make them a risk.

I think Kamara is ideal though. Young and breaking through and mst imoortantly he is an intelligent defensive midfielder, so worst case scenario, we have a proper defensive midfielder whose legs havent gone as we dont despite a bloated squad actually have a single proper defensive midfielder apart from Matic.

I think Kamara can come in to our club and start and do a valuable job....also has the ability to develop into a very very good player. On the "free" part, I still think we really require two central midfielders anyway. We did last summer and this sumemr we are losign several probably, so a player that is right for us for free is a big thing

Well this guy could certainly be an excellent candidate for our midfield DM vacancy and allow us to spend money on Nunez in light of Matic leaving us..

This is a signing that makes so much sense, that if we dont do it, I might just become the Joker.

Was watching Marseille the other week and the commentator said that he sees himself as a CB and that’s where he wants to play. Don’t know if that’s true.

Thats probably a good thing. Its a pretty accurate description of the kind of midfielder we lack. A Declan Rice or Eric Dier type destroyer who can also pass the ball. Obviously Matic is that type but he was past his best when we signed him at 29 and that was years ago now. A more mobile version of Matic we can definitely use.

Watching him tonight vs PSG. Reminds me of Rice, a lot of interceptions and sniffing out danger.
Ive not seen much of him in games but he looks good on paper. A lot of his type of midfielder contribute very little in possession but Kamara's passing stats are good by any standard.

It does seem likely that Matic was given the all clear to leave because we've already lined up his replacement. I really hope theres truth to this one.

Kept it very simple but was hard to judge if he had much of an engine or if he’s mobile. Played like a CB

There is not much to lose in securing a signing like this guy, at good age, good potential and already solid player by most accounts. In a year we are loosing lots of deadwood, it would be a good starting point.

If we were to bring in Tchouameni and Kamara this summer then that’s a very solid platform in midfield to build on, lots of talent yet both years away from their prime and the type of signing we user to make in players that are ready to become superstars rather than already being so.
