Borussia Dortmund 17/18 | Sky Germany: Lucien Favre to be next manager

At half time Spurs had two shots. Two half chances. One of them even a silly gift from Sahin, who decided to go down for a free kick which wasn't given instead of simply playing a pass back to Bürki or clearing the ball. If that's an exposed defense then I'd like to see a secure one. Later in the second Tottenham obviously got more spaces and chances, but that's only natural, when you're down a/two goals and have to abandon patience.

And both came as a direct result of playing such a ridiculously high line. You can keep saying it's just 2 chances, but the proof is in the result and giving away a chance like that to a striker the quality of Kane is asking for trouble. I would have to watch the match again, but I feel fairly certain there were other opportunities for Spurs in that first half where they failed in the build up right before the final ball.

Playing dominant attacking football is what the club as a whole is committed too, so you don't simply make a U-turn and say "okay lads, today we're parking the bus".

Because those are the only two options. You can either play an insanely high line or park the bus. There is no possible in between solution. Good to know.

What i going to say. Respecting the opponent doesn't mean parking the bus.
Playing such a high line again Madrid is begging to get beat.

"The proof is in the result" is such a silly way of judging football tactics. If the ref doesn't deny Dortmund the 2:2 and the game ends in a draw or even win for them then suddenly everything would be fine? You say "a chance like that" when both first half goals weren't even particularly good chances, but rather extremely well taken shots with a bit of help from Bürki and the CB.

When your whole defensive approach is built around positioning yourself up high and disrupting attacks through minimizing space before they even take off then it's not exactly as simple as just falling back a few meters, because that means either your pressing line falls back with them, meaning your entire defensive approach changes or they stay up and offer up space between the lines.

It's not such a silly way of judging tactics, you set up tactics to win a game, and you lost. Bosz made a mistake, it's not the referee who made you concede two goals in two half chances as you said, and even at 2:2 i still think you would have lost the game by the end.

Defensively there have been question marks over Dortmund's approach in the past few seasons.

It's odd because it terms of personnel, I've always thought they'd be better to sit a bit deeper and then spring forward and fully utilise the pace of Aubameyang and Reus on the break, rather than the more possession based approach they've used since Tuchel (and to an extent Klopp moved to towards the end of his reign).

See how deadly Mourinho's Real were on the break or a better example would be Simeone's Atletico.

Simply impossible in the league. The teams are way too defensively compact - you will not get any space to do that.

Their defensive organization is so shit it baffles me tbh. They always look so vulnerable on the counter and Burki can't handle European matches it seems.

They made a terrible managerial change. Tuchel was miles better than a guy who couldn't even win a piss poor Dutch league with Ajax that even De Boer managed.

The real mistake was selling Klopp.

They let their best defender go to Bayern, if i'm not mistaken Hummels was not even on the last year of his contract, they SOLD him, it baffles me...

I think their tank was never full this season. They beat bad teams and lost against good ones: Real, Spurs, Leipzig.
Their good start against crap opponents might have blinded them/us. The so-called HSV-phenomenon. ;)
Yeah, true. They just beat the opponents they expected to beat.

He sort of was. I mean they agreed to the deal in May, so technically you're right - he had about 13 months left.

Yep, they got rid of a top class manager just to employ some coach from the dutch league. I thought of it as a risky gamble. We will see how it will continue, but in my opinion Bosz will not coach Dortmund next season.

Embarrassing. Outclassed by Real, outclassed by Tottenham, can't even beat Nicosia in any of two games.
Thank god the coefficient rules have been changed, else hopeless and mediocre Bundesliga teams like this BVB would be costing us a CL spot.
Then again, maybe we don't deserve 4 CL participants anymore.

Can't wait to completely bury them on the weekend.

I was incredibly surprised when they hired Bosz. Calling him tactically limited is an understatement.

So how long has he got left now?

It's always going to be difficult for them to maintain high standards if they sell players every summer. Their coach is hopeless though.

I think this is at least the 3rd time this has happened. Was going to watch tonight’s game but it just got a little less interesting.

First point so be gentle...long term poster on this forum.

Just stopped laughing to post at that first goal Dortmund conceded tonight. Yet another disaster by Burki.

Begs the question considering over last two years Dortmund have re-signed Kagawa, Gotze, Schurrle, Yarmelenko, Max Phillipe etc when they already had PEA, Reus and Pulisic coming through....why didn't they divert some of those resources on some top quality defenders and keeper.

Is their a top level european team out there who gifts the opposition as many cheap goals as they do? Remember last season in the first leg v Monaco when Sokratis when in possession just passed straight to Mbappe and we know the rest. The goals Burki let in against Spurs were awful aswell.

Be interested what the Dortmund fans think. There were gettable CBs out there, Manolas at Roma nearly went to Zenit this summer so surely that's someone Dortmund could've targeted.

Even Kamil Gilk, was excellent for Monaco last season and we've seen you can sign players from Monaco if you want.

Having sub par defenders is why they can't challenge Bayern. A shame as they play great football when it all clicks in the final third. Just seems a team that unnecessarily overloads upfront and neglects the defensive side, just like Liverpool.

For a time it really looked this season as if they had improved defensively but this is just like the height of shitty high line defending, not even under Klopp's worst period with them it was as disastrous as it is now, they look like conceding with every opposition attack.

By most people. They were touted as potential Buli winners this season after Bayern's disastrous start. A few weeks in and Bayern looks invincible, whereas Dortmund are leaking goals and destined for UEFA league with that Bozo of a coach.

Absolutely. They looked really good in their first 5 or 6 games apart from the CL, where you could already see the disaster coming.

Serious question, is Bosz the most promissing Dutch coach around?

They play a really high line, their pressing is inconsistent and their midfield gives very little protection. So signing some defenders will not magically solve their issues.

If they keep like this, can't see him lasting more than this season tbh.
