Bonds hits 756

its all about race, nuttin else

That is just madcap.

I am so tired of irresponsible or criminal individuals being given a free pass because to point out an individual who has a certain skin pigment has done wrong is somehow a wrong in and of itself.

MLK is rolling in his grave.

I don't even remotely get how people can claim that "he murdered a bunch of dogs, so say his former buddies" or "he admitted to doing steroids with a daft excuse for it" means that someone is racist.

Both are humans. One has admitted to, the other appears very likely to have done something wrong.

If anything race is a factor in muddying the waters in a way that would never happen with a white man.

People are strange as all hell some times.

wrong. look at who defends vick. the crowds of people supporting him are ALL black. all of them. everybody else who we hear on the radio getting their voices across are all middle class suburban whites.

bonds' supporters are on the whole black. they defend him solely based on that fact. look on espn, every critic who rips into him is a white person. the places in the media which are able to control this type of situation are all in the hands of the white man.

race is still very much an issue in sports. boston, the city I have grown up around and whose teams I support, is still widely recognized as a racist city, enough so in recent times the issue has been raised on debate shows etc. it's still relevant. and it runs both ways.

another point here: yes, dogfighting is inhumane, terrible and so on. but let's look at what vick is up against here. he's lost contracts with nike and such, his career is in jeopardy, he's not being allowed to play.

let's flash back to a different sort of situation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Lewis_(NFL)#Murder_charges
ray lewis was charged with the murder of humans. regardless of the level of guilt, he was able to come back next season without missing a beat. he lost nothing. where the feck is america's head at in regards to crime? a man kills some pit bulls and he loses contracts, playing time, his reputation and maybe his career. a man is charged with murder and resumes playing without any kind of repurcussion.

martha stewart actually does crime, does time, and can come back out and have a tv show with an all white audience after robbing shareholders of millions. but if a rapper talks about getting some money on the block, it's a problem??? you're all kidding yourselves. racism is alive and well in america, and it's just as headless and stupid in the sports world. god bless.

(one more thing: people threaten to quit watching baseball, "it's no longer america's sport," blah de blah blah... in my opinion, steroid use, which at this point has been cracked down on to a degree, is no worse than the diving epidemic in football/soccer today, cheating even more blatantly obvious and that can change a game far more than a juiced up player... I guess baseball is just too boring, huh)

You raise a number of interesting points Noy but I'lltry to counter them.

1. The comparisionof drug use to diving: Look at what 'steroids' did to the likes of Conseco and Bonds. If a player uses steroids he instantly gains a huge advantage over his competitors. As for divingeven thoughit can sometimes bring rewards it is still at the end of the day just a foul. Just like tackling from behind or Handballing. It is just a foul. Yet we don't have campaigns to get ridof fouls in football do we? Serial foulers like Michael Ball and Brown are untainted by stigma because being a 'hard-man' is ok but being a diving-fairy' isn't.

2: Ray Lewis: was innocent. The proscecution had no evidence on him. To imply that he murdered someone is disingenuos on your part. Vick was federally indicted and faces a huge mountain of evidence against him and to add to that his mates have agreed to testify against him.

3: Racism in sports: It does exist. But America is to public perception the least racist of most sports crazy countries. Football has it much worse. No where in America today to my knowledge would you have a team refusing to accept a player because of race or religion. Nowhere would you have racist chanting in crowds. You just had the first ever black head coach lead the Colts to a Superbowl.

I can't be asked to type anymore but I think your comment about Racism in America is true. It does exist but the fact that it is forced to hide in people's living rooms etc. because it won't be tolerated inpublic says great thingsabout where America has come in regards to racism especially when you take into account its history.

Noy yo Fdart - I've seen many blacks on ESPN criticize Bonds. Wilbon, Smith, etc. Typically people playing the race card fail to see this.

As for Lewis, I don't recall him being charged with murder but for accomplice to murder and obstruction to justice. But one does have to wonder why a professional athlete with so much at stake continues to associate with thugs. And don't play the "just keeping it real" card. That's assanine.

As of Stewart, yes she gets her celebrity status back. Most celebrities do. She even got "street cred" for her stint behind bars. I have yet to see on rapper lose a record label over admission to dealing drugs. Many rappers glorify their past drug life. It's accepted in the hip hop culture. Do you see a glaring problem here?

Martha Stewart was convicted of crimes related to insider trading stock of ImClone. She did not rob shareholders of anything. She received information regarding a cancer drug that ImClone was developing that had played a central role in the increase of the share value of its stock; however, the drug was going to be rejected by the FDA, which would cause the share price to drop. Knowing this she sold her shares before the announcement of its rejection was announced, saving herself money.

its all about race, nuttin else

Rubbish, it's got nothing to do with race.

Look at the stats before 2000 he manages 40 home runs in a season 3 times, the highest being 46. Then all of a sudden it's 40+ every season (except for when he's been injured. It was taking him 3 season at least to get to the next hundred then he's doing it in 2 seasons.

The guy is either one of the latest bloomers ever in physical sports or ge's on drugs.
It might well be innocent until proven guilty but there is no way MLB will ever say if he got caught. The games' reputation will be ruined for ever.

Lets not forget Hank Aaron is black and even he was in the 'opposing' campso to speak. all those surburban white people want Aaron a black guy to still hold the record so where is the racial discrimination in that?

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A newspaper reporter who said Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick would have been "better off raping a woman" than being charged with dogfighting has apologized and will no longer appear on the local sports panel TV show where he made the remark.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Paul Zeise made the comments Sunday night on the Sports Showdown show on KDKA-TV, a CBS affiliate. He was disagreeing with another panelist who said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should suspend Vick for the rest of the season because he was indicted on federal dogfighting charges July 17.

"It's really a sad day in this country when somehow ... Michael Vick would have been better off raping a woman if you look at the outcry of what happened," Zeise said. "Had he done that, he probably would have been suspended for four games and he'd be back on the field. But because this has become a political issue, all of a sudden the commissioner has lost his stomach for it."

Zeise apologized Monday.

"I regret the poor choice of analogies I used to characterize a professional athlete's legal situation," Zeise said.

KDKA apologized on its Monday newscasts and said Zeise, one of a group of rotating panelists on the show, will not be invited back.

Zeise's "insensitive and offensive" remarks "do not represent the view of the Post-Gazette," the newspaper said in a statement Monday.

Vick, 27, has pleaded not guilty to the charges and said in a statement that he looks forward to "clearing my good name."

Goodell has already barred Vick from training camp and Vick has lost several endorsement deals over the gruesome allegations.

this thread's gone delightfully off topic and my last post was a bunch of rambling shite, but here's a good example of what kind of hypocrisy pisses me off. the reporter is one hundred percent right and he's censored for it. complete bullshit.

everybody knows that the sport is full of racists and people are viewed at in different levels, kinda like society...
