wrong. look at who defends vick. the crowds of people supporting him are ALL black. all of them. everybody else who we hear on the radio getting their voices across are all middle class suburban whites.
bonds' supporters are on the whole black. they defend him solely based on that fact. look on espn, every critic who rips into him is a white person. the places in the media which are able to control this type of situation are all in the hands of the white man.
race is still very much an issue in sports. boston, the city I have grown up around and whose teams I support, is still widely recognized as a racist city, enough so in recent times the issue has been raised on debate shows etc. it's still relevant. and it runs both ways.
another point here: yes, dogfighting is inhumane, terrible and so on. but let's look at what vick is up against here. he's lost contracts with nike and such, his career is in jeopardy, he's not being allowed to play.
let's flash back to a different sort of situation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Lewis_(NFL)#Murder_charges
ray lewis was charged with the murder of humans. regardless of the level of guilt, he was able to come back next season without missing a beat. he lost nothing. where the feck is america's head at in regards to crime? a man kills some pit bulls and he loses contracts, playing time, his reputation and maybe his career. a man is charged with murder and resumes playing without any kind of repurcussion.
martha stewart actually does crime, does time, and can come back out and have a tv show with an all white audience after robbing shareholders of millions. but if a rapper talks about getting some money on the block, it's a problem??? you're all kidding yourselves. racism is alive and well in america, and it's just as headless and stupid in the sports world. god bless.
(one more thing: people threaten to quit watching baseball, "it's no longer america's sport," blah de blah blah... in my opinion, steroid use, which at this point has been cracked down on to a degree, is no worse than the diving epidemic in football/soccer today, cheating even more blatantly obvious and that can change a game far more than a juiced up player... I guess baseball is just too boring, huh)
