Folks who are finding themselves having sympathy over him making this video shaming another person are probably people who would have made loads of jokes about his weight when he was a ref. Figures.
Yeh, I wouldn't have done it just because of the current climate. This kind of thing is so painful though, nobody in the real world really cares about it but people still get sacked, it's crazy!
I think one of the things here is also the scale of his salary. Six figures have been quoted. Whatever, It’s higher than senior employees in public service or the NHS. With this will come a number of caveats including professional responsibility
I know as an education professional that you have to stay of making anything in the slightest bit provocative, that you put your career in jeopardy. While I have sympathy for the fall out in his children, if he was already in a dark place then talk to people, seek help.
For all the people claiming he still deserved it, imagine going through every video you've ever shared with someone in Whatsapp, do you honestly think you wouldn't find a single one that could be construed as mocking someone to some extent?

People make stupid decisions sometimes, he didn't share it on social media, so the person in the video was never exposed to anything bad as a result of it, it definitely doesn't sound like he is ableist in any way, given his charity work and background, really seems overly harsh to me to destroy his career.

He's back in England and will be officiating in League 1&2 next season. Deserves a second chance imo.

It was a disgrace that he was sacked anyway. The joke was honest and harmless.
He was one of the better referees in the Premier League, so will be good to have him back.
Good that common sense has prevailed in this. He's a good referee and itll be good to see him back in the lower leagues.
