Blur to Reunite

I love Ambulance, This is a Low is just great, Chemical World.......... I don't know, I love too many of them to pick just three, and no idea of what order, it's a mood thing.

I know, I made it difficult on purpose.

to the end, chemical world and look inside america for me, if I'm forced to answer.

IMO that's bullshit.

I've been a fan of Blur from Modern Life onwards and own all their albums, but for me Think Tank is their strongest album to date. And if the reason for that is that Coxon had nothing to do with it then so be it. Damon Alburn for me has proved himself as being an extremely diverse and talented musician with obviously Blur, the excellent Gorillaz and his latest project Good Bad (which for me tbh doesn't quite do it, but still I can appreciate the talent involved).

Anyway, I'm thinking you are obviously a Coxon fan, so I can appreciate your sentiment, but imo he is lacking without Damon, hence the reason for the reunion I guess, I hope it doesn't mean a downturn in the music because I liked where they were going.

I'd just like to add that I went to see Blur on the Think Tank tour at the Manchester Apollo, for me that gig ranks in the top 3 gigs I've ever been too and I've been to a fair amount of great gigs in the past. Can't wait for them to tour outside London, hopefully at the Apollo again, good times

I'm not belittling Damon's talent at all, but for me it ain't Blur unless they're both on board. I've got a lot of time for many a Gorillaz tune and I quite enjoyed TGTB&TQ.

I couldn't give you a strong critique on it tbh, as I have only given it a couple of listens, quite a while ago, and it didn't grab me it has to be said, although I haven't ruled it out until I revisit it again at some point in the future.

What did you think of Think Tank?

Think Tank is mostly quality. Good Song and Out of Time are up there with Blurs best work.

hhhmmm. well it certainly took blur in a different direction.

Which for me is a positive.

I love to see bands move on and try different things, just like when Radiohead released Kid A, a lot of the fanbase didn't get it and couldn't get past the whole Bends and Ok sound, I loved it, granted it look a few listens for it to grab me, but when it did what a great album it ended up being.

I would hope Blur continued down the road they turned with Think Tank, but in all honesty I'm not sure what will happen with Coxons return, gonna be interesting whatever happens, I'm looking forward to it.

there will be an evident lead guitar role, unlike most of think tank.

I didn't think much of his solo stuff, found it a bit paint by numbers if you like.

what do you mean by that? I picked up The Sky is Crying and there were a couple of decent tracks on that as for the rest well let's not speak of it again.

All well and good having a couple of decent tracks, but I judge artists/bands on albums not songs. Hell, most bands have got at least one or two decent songs in them but if you haven't got enough to hold a whole album together then I'm not going to give them repeat listens to any great degree.

Just the way I listen to music really, I'll put on an album and listen to it all the way through.

The paint by numbers reference I think is obvious, it's very safe and sellable to me, maybe a bit cynical I know, but I'd have more respect for him if I felt he'd tried to push some boundaries a bit and challenge himself, rather than create the bland material I think he did, just my opinion, and I have no problem with anyone who thinks different, it's horses for courses and all that.*

*Official Redcafe get out clause.

The Sky Is Too High and The Golden D are brilliant albums. It's actually quite rare for a solo artist with such a strong signature to keep it as fresh as he does. But like all truly rare talents, he isn't for everyone.

Yep, his album was average bar a couple of decent tracks.

Think he's a class guitarist.

Yep, he's decent enough, and has done great things in the past with Blur. My only concern is that I really liked where they went with Think Tank and I hope they don't lose to much of that with his return. I want to hear something new again.

So I finally sorted a ticket out from ebay :D

£65 though :(

Anybody know who will be supporting, my mate I'm going with said he has heard Kaizer Chiefs and also a fully reunited The Kinks which if true would be the best thing ever.

Well those rumours turned out to be shite.

On Thursday, Blur will be joined by: Foals, Crystal Castles, Friendly Fires and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.

On Friday, Blur will be joined by: Vampire Weekend, Amadou and Mariam, Florence and the Machine and Deerhoof

Must admit I'm slightly underwhelmed by that.
