Bluemoon goes into Meltdown

Interesting. I'm probably being a bit mawkish, imaging everyone all rallying round together to win the trophy for Manchester. I do think I'd want City to win in this scenario but it might be different if I lived in Manchester. In a way it would also go against the "business as usual" reaction which is the best response to terrorism.
Honestly, if City were in the CL final, I have no idea how I'd react. It's all well and good for me to hypothetically say I'd root for City but I can't say for sure that I would.

If the attack had been at the Etihad or Old Trafford, it'd be 100% different as said clubs would actually have been targeted and, as you said, the "business as usual" reaction would definitely go out the window for the fans of both clubs, I'm sure.

I wouldn't think badly of any City fans still preferring to see us lose, but that's just me. I also wouldn't judge how any City fan feels on any given subject based off bluemoon. It really is a horrible forum that gives City fans a bad name

Can see this too, probably no mention that the shit house responsible was supposedly a united fan.

Anyway, can see this being a tumescent game with a 1-0 rags win, hopefully not.

I found this pretty tasteless and disrespectful to the point I wanted to create an account and tell him to go f*** himself, alas i decided to vent on here. What a complete and utter C***!

Sorry for the crassness of my message just had to vent somewhere.

No surprise from that forum to be honest.

No apology needed mate, awful forum. The bile they come out with honestly doesn't surprise me anymore.

Saw it posted somewhere else he was a United fan too.

I totally agree Pogue that it's depressing. I was just reading a good article by Martin Samuel and he mentions how, for the good it would do for Manchester and the country after Monday, every fan would want United to win tonight. I'm the same as you, if it was City in the final I'd be rooting for them. Times like this show how rivalries pale in the face of families losing a child, parent, brother, sister etc. I don't think it's a reflection of City's fan base though and I can imagine many of them were affected and will want a source of joy for Manchester to rally around. It's a shame that forum is fuelled by such vitriol though.

I disagree. I wouldnt be rooting for city if the situation was reversed and I dont want them rooting for us.

I am Manchester born and bred and my niece should have been at the arena on Monday but wasnt because she was ill, so it all feels really close to me.

I think the bombing is so disgusting and so disturbing, but the only way to combat it is to unite as a city and as a nation, by supporting those that have lost people, have been injured or traumatised (and the memorial on Tuesday moved me to tears) and carrying with our lives as normally as possible. Normally non united fans would want us to lose, the bombing shouldn't change that.

If we (Manchester United) had been the target of the attack it would be different, but we werent. The people of Manchester, of the North West and the whole of the UK were targetted. Manchester do not represent all the people of Manchester, the Northwest or the UK. If we try as a club to claim we are in some way and therefore try to gain support for tonights game, then I for one would find that disgusting.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that. Just that it would be nice if at least a proportion of the people in Manchester had something to be happy about after such a horrible event. Although, even then, you can't get away from the fact that football is completely unimportant in this context.

sorry to disagree thats exactly what the posters who were suggesting city (and fans of other teams)should support united were suggesting

In this thread? The closest comment to what you're describing comes from me and if you interpreted me as wanting to gain support from other clubs that was never my intention. I just assumed that some City fans would hope United win because that would bring some much-needed joy to the city. Mainly because that's how I'd feel if the roles were reversed. I'm certainly not expecting them to turn up in Stockholm wearing United shirts!

you are failing to understand that united winning will bring more pain to some in the city as well, the city fans (and fans of other clubs). Its the nature of football and the bombing does not change that.

and yes in this thread, see fulton reds post

A guy on the interwebs presuming people would support the team from Manchester, and "trying as a club to gain some support" are very different though.

I get your point too, fair enough. Apologies if any offence was caused.

those were separate points you have put them together.

I explained why presuming people would support a team from manchester was wrong.

then when on to say "If we try as a club to claim we are in some way and therefore try to gain support for tonights game, then I for one would find that disgusting."

the if there is very important.

My older brother, a City fan, is supporting Ajax and I see no problem with that. It's football and just because City and United share the same City doesn't mean he or anyone should feel the need to support us due to unrelated tragedies. Though, if the tragedy had been something like Munich, I'm sure it'd be different.

As others have said, I've only had good encounters with City fans and them choosing to root for Ajax doesn't change anything. It doesn't mean they're not united as a city in face of this recent tragedy.

I agree, the bombing and football have nothing to do with eachother.
I'd want City to lose today if they played, as i do every other day.

Quoting myself from the thread about the bombing, as discussion belongs here:

Just been over to the bluemoon site and couldn't find a single post that wanted anything other than "Ajax to smash the rags". Am I weird to find that really fecking depressing? Is it because a lot of their members aren't from Manchester? Or has football really become so tribal and petty that even a tragedy like this can't bring football fans together that live in the same city?

That is pretty depressing that you couldn't find a single one. I would expect the majority of Blue Mooners to be against United anyway because the internet is full of twats, but you should expect a handful to say "fair enough, I'd like United to win". I bet you if the shoe was on the foot, we would definitely see some United fans here say they would like City to win.

Fair enough, I misread them as being related in the context of how it was all written. Apologies

I'll be honest I'm still kind of supporting Ajax though I have nothing against United. I don't think football has anything to do with the tragedy. If you guys make it, fair play and well deserved. I really hope that the tragedy doesn't impact your performance though as that would be very unfair on you guys. I'm sure people at United had family and friends at the concert so its a hard one to call.

@M18CTID is your man for that, he will prove that every penny has been well spent and our money has been wasted but put such a twist on it that it sounds like, to himself at least, all completely reasonable.
I'd love to employ @M18CTID to do PR work, but I fear the North Korean news agency will get to him first.

I've never looked at it before tbf. Other than via this thread. So it's not a reflection of Manchester City fans who actually live in Manchester? Good to hear.
Not sure this is quite fair either, they're not reflective of Manchester City fans from anywhere. No City fan I've met from anywhere has been like those feckwits.

I asked one of the city fans in my office if he wanted to put aside his petty, tribalistic hatred for the sake of the a much-needed fillip for our great city and he replied, " Feck no. I hope you get totally battered."

Actually found his honesty quite funny. The bitter cnut.

Few on my mates who are Blues are firmly behind us. I think the problem with Bluemoon is if one poster so much as hints at wanting us to win it, there will be some hunger games type shit that only the likes of RAWK has seen.

To be honest I'd want them to lose, but in general I care so little about them that I wouldn't be overly bothered them winning. They stopped being "City" a long time ago. Bluemoon is too full of inbred children with single digit IQ's that I wouldn't anything less than nonsense hatred/conspiracies etc;

I'd want City to lose. It would turn my stomach watching them lift a cup and become an emphatic emblem for the tragedy. Like they were raising the spirits of Manchester, the trophy symbolising a re-emergence from the ashes.

Jees, that might sound dramatic, but I have no doubt that in this age of social media memes and trend culture, it would happen. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's actually heartening. I just rather it is us than them who become associated with it.

*edit* I'm merely answering the question raised. Deriving mileage out of this tragedy for the good image of the club however, is something that should be an incidental matter, not something I as a United fan would ever push or care for. It's offensive to be self seeking in that respect while the names of the victims haven't even been fully revealed yet.

Both are fine in the circumstances, fair play to whatever they decide. Even the blues who say they will behind Utd tonight might change their minds during the game, that's perfectly fine too.

I hope if we win tonight no one draws parallels with rising from the ashes of Munich. Unfortunately, someone in the media undoubtedly will.

Sorry for hijacking a little but what pot do Utd go into if they win?
The pot we piss in

Did Guardiola just won a CL Semi Final with home grown City team ?
Going to be hard for United to focus on the game ... I mean with everyone being a local Manchester lad coming through their youth system, they're bound to be distracted.

That second comment is shocking. Scum.

Blue moon are not Mancunians. They're all plastic fans who think all they need to do is spout 'rag' every now and then to appear authentic.

I can't believe that last comment. What the actual feck  We actually have homegrown lads in our team unlike them!!!

Does anyone else find it funny how even in the post-Fergie era which has been one of the worst in United's history, they have still won more trophies than either City or Liverpool? :smirk:
