Gaming Bloodborne (PS4)

Just beat ludwig the accursed.

Don’t know how he plays on the standard game but jesus he hits hard on NG+(He has so many instant kill moves). Anyways after dying countless times I finally got the hang of it and battered the absolute piss out of him. Best boss so far imo.

With him being a DLC boss it's hard to judge what the intended difficulty is, but it's definitely a step up from the base game. In general, NG+ is easier than NG, but since a lot of players rush to him on NG+ (because they had already finished the game by the time they get the DLC), he's often fought underleveled. I guess that would apply to NG as well if you rush to the DLC.

Brilliant fight though, probably my favourite in the game. The transition in the middle is awesome. You've got a couple more great boss fights ahead of you.

Ugh those bell ringers are so irritating. Not a fan of this village!

also weirdly I still keep going back to the saw cleaver even though I’ve Ludwig’s Sword which is supposedly the best weapon in the game. The cleaver is just so fast.

The Cleaver is also a much more fun weapon to use and fits Bloodborne's atmosphere better.

What’s the live player count for Bloodborne currently? I can see it having a decent player count considering it’s age now and of course the cult status but it would be interesting how the bell ringing maidens work in the game. When I played the game at its popularity peak, if you let that bell ring for a full minute it seemed a cert you’d get invaded, especially if you had a ton of messengers around the lantern you warped in at (the more messengers at a lantern, the more players there are in that specific area)

Or do they have generated AI hunters to balance that out now?

Cleaver is easily better than the holy blade. Far better DPS and serrated damage vs beasts.

Only weapon on a strength/quality build which is what I assume you have is Whirligig Saw that can come close to cleaver but overall cleaver is what this game is designed for. Once you get the 27% physical damage gems that's it.

Absolutely. Even without the stats I'm glad I picked it at the start. I did so because this was the weapon on the cover but it ended up as the best weapon in terms of experience as well. Especially with the contracted form it just feels amazing to chop down beasts.

Due to the same reason I absolutely hated the axe. Felt so generic and given everything in this game is easier if you fight up close that range was useless. And of course it is slow as shit.

Pretty much no other physical weapon comes close to going on a rampage with the Cleaver. I havent done any arcane or blood builds so can't say how great weapons like Kos Parasite or Bloodletter are. I've heard the Bloodletter is really awesome to play with.

It's still fairly frequent. I was at Nightmare of Mensis in NG+ recently and was getting invaded regularly.

Although I think most PvP right now just dwell in the lower dungeons.

Amazing fight but for me he's far easier than Laurence or second phase orphan. That arena is very helpful and you can easily get around him most times. Biggest issue definitely is the number of one shot moves he has but I could run away from a lot of them.

Orphan second phase after a point is pure insanety but as long as you never stop moving and keep closing in on him given his long ranged attacks are brutally hard you can count on your luck. The biggest shite is that lightning scream. If you can get through that alive you are in with a chance.

Laurence though. feck that. Absolutely shit arena that literally traps you in corners which has nowhere to go from. That arena made my life hell vs Pthumerian Descendant as well. But with Laurence he has such a massive reach in a trapped area that you can't just evade his attacks. One wrong dodge and that's it. The only way I managed was using that charred Armor and not getting burnt by that lava. Still havent beaten him a second time in NG+. :(

Laurence on NG+ is a huge pain in the ass. So so difficult.

Still to this day the best game made in my opinion.

Oh weird, I thought it was just me cause every guide seems to say the holy blade is the best and the cleaver isn't even mentioned, yet the cleaver is way faster and easier for me. Holy blade is better when extended, though, I feel. Maybe I'll stick with the cleaver.

Just came across those 3 hunters in the village cathedral this morning. Ouch

Yeah a lot depends on your playstyle. I always hated carrying big slow weapons, except in some situations where they work well (like you need massive blows against a badass like Ludwig). But otherwise fast weapons are far better. Much more enjoyable to play with as well.

Holy Blade is highly rated because it suits a lot of builds and you can generally use it in a lot of situations, but it is not as good as the DLC weapons especially Pizza Cutter which beats the Holy Blade in terms of strength weapons and also has additional damage vs beasts. Probably because not everyone does the DLC holy blade is more famous from the base game weapons and yeah it is definitely up there out of the base game, but falls behind the DLC weapons.

Great pace. I assume you have ignored all the optional areas and quests? Do complete them before completing the main story. Areas like Castle Cainhurst and Nightmare Frontier are awesome with awesome boss battles.

Don't think so? I've done all the optional areas so far (Healing Church Tower, Hemwick lane, Old Yharnham), apart from the actual optional area of Yahar'Gul which I'll do now, I think. I actually accidentally came across that Darkbeast electric mother fecker earlier and he ruined me, I'll try him again later.

I haven't started any chalices yet though and I've heard they've good for chunks.

Orphan was the hardest for me, mainly because his two phases are so different. His first phase is as technical as a Sekiro boss, with lots of different moves to memorize with precise dodges. But the second phase is manic, its just a matter of staying alive and slashing away at him. Its such a change of style it can be hard to adjust. Heavy weapons give you a huge advantage though.

Orphan was the easiest fight for me. Halfway through the fight, he just froze. All I can say is he accepted his inevitable death at my hands :wenger:

I never really got the hang of Orphan's second phase. It was a matter of survival. I beat it by doing phase 1 with no damage and then ending the second phase on my last blood vial. It's the best boss fight I never want to do again.

Yeah Hemwick and Old Yharnam were optional. But now that you have done Forbidden Woods you can access two other areas: Castle Cainhurst and Nightmare Frontier so do that as well. Both are great.

Yahar'gul isn't optional, maybe you are talking about the Darkbeast Paarl area, which can be accessed before you enter Yahar'gul after beating Rom which is how you've done it. So yeah that little area is optional and Darkbeast is an amazing boss. Another one who a lot of people find tough, I fought him very early in first playthrough, was fun. His strategy isn't that tough once you crack it. But still can be tricky at first.

You need to fight him in NG+ and have a proper round, this game isn't complete without taking down that second form fair and square!

Ah cool, yeah that's what I meant, it's optional earlier on. I skipped it at the time as I heard he was a cnut at that stage.

Yep, once that transformation happens it's just fold your hands and pray. One thing that actually saved me is going near him all the time, which makes him jump up in the air preparing from that huge smash, and as with all jumps in the game you just need to run get away from it. And usually that makes him land right next to you and you can get a few good hits, even a backstab. That still needs a whole lot of dodging and healing but that plus staying in the water and somehow not getting hit by the electric wave are two key strats for me.

The second time I fought him standing on top of his stupid mother and somehow dodged the electricity  It somehow felt amazing satisfying to kill him while standing on top of Kos, like an extra layer of feck you you bald cnut.

It's definitely my favourite fight overall I think. Amazing lore, the atmosphere of the hamlet is insanely brilliant and that arena is so beautiful as well. And that fight is incredibly enjoyable because it is so fast paced. I compare it to fighting Grimm, pretty much like a non-stop dance where you both deal blows.

Exactly, I was thinking of Sekiro while writing my previous post. The first phase is completely along those lines, dodge around him, hit, close in on him again, repeat or you can also parry if you are feeling extra brave. And yeah the second phase is just something completely different from anything else in the game. Insane combos, speed, every attack hits like a truck and then he calls his mama.

It definitely feels they built upon the success of this in Sekiro. The Genichiro fight resembles it a bit.

You can actually abuse his AI to make him do that consistently, 'all bosses' speedruns do it all the time. You probably stumbled onto the method by accident :)

Didn't know that other bosses too glitched out like that. The only one I have seen is Shadows not attacking you if you fall into their arena rather than enter it through the normal way

Took almost two nights after dying but finally got it. This video helped me a ton.

Yeah its impossible to tell just how difficult NG+ is. Some bosses I’ve torn to pieces but others almost seem impossible. Love the cut scene at the half way point(Although I did completely forget to pick up his sword afterwards).

She likes anal. Get some of that electric lube and feck het in the ass
I actually got her on maybe my 6th or 7th go. Yeah used bolt paper for her final phase and just mashed her down before she could get me, wasn't as bad as expected as I heard she was the worst boss in the main game. The king guy on the roof was harder.

Think I'm near the end now, in the nightmare of mensis and I think i've all the optional area bosses done. What a game!

Nice. Yeah the fight on the roof of the Cainhurst Castle with Martyr Logarius is fantastic. I was down to my last vial against him

You have done Amygdala too? There is one boss in the Chalice Dungeons linked to a trophy so you can get that boss too before going to the final boss. If you have PS Plus then you can get the glyphs and get a fast track route to the boss rather than doing it the long winded way. Also, if you have the DLC, finish that first before going for the final boss fight as the game will immediately take you to NG+ after finishing the final boss fight.

Yeah did her. I'm going to leave the chalices and DLC for a while and move on to Horizon and Elden Ring when I'm done. I'll take a backup of my save before the final boss.

Your gonna cruise through elden ring coming off the back of smashing this game.

I went back to this while positive with Covid over the last few days.

I was much better at it this go round as I'd played Demon Souls since but like with it I just had to give up eventually. I do enjoy the challenge to an extent but by the 7th/8th attempt to beat a boss it just gets a bit sickening - Especially when you have to traverse back to them each time. It's a great game and it is seriously satisfying when you do advance but I just don't have the patience for this shit. I'm hoping Elden Ring isn't anything like as hard or I'll probably end up ditching it too.

There are short cuts that you can open that makes going back to each boss easier.

Those three werewolves at the bridge before the very first boss can be very reliably farmed for healing items. Also, try to practice using the gun to parry and stun enemies. It takes some time, but once you get used to it its going to make your life so much easier

Oh I know, they're not too far away but it can still be annoying and some of the enemies aren't always easy to just run by.

The boss I was stuck on didn't even seem as hard as ones I'd previously beaten, I was just worn out with it. I'll probably get back to it at some point before getting to the next quitting point haha.

Some of the shortcuts are still awful to be fair, like the Shadows and the roof guy. Others are a lot quicker, thankfully. Was always what put me off the game the most but I've learned to embrace them and it's satisfying when you manage to unlock one.

I think I found my most hated area in the game, those singing bitches who give you frenzy, fecking hell! Finally got the blood chunk after about 20 attempts.

Yeah those two are still a bit long... For Shadows I used to take the two elevator route just to avoid running into the snake orgies
