Gaming Bloodborne (PS4)

Yes. If that's the kind gamer you are id steer well clear of this title.

It seems most people are getting this simply because it's the first major Playstation exclusive but being completely oblivious about the type of game it is.

I would recommend if people want to try a souls game then Dark Souls 2 would be the best one to start as it was the easiest for me. And that's out next month for PS4 and you can find it at some places for £30 already.

Apparently that is why they upped the difficulty for this because lots of people moaned Dark souls 2 was too easy. So if you can handle that then I would say move onto this.

I would definitely not buy this if you haven't played a souls game before.

This.

If you think you might be interested in Bloodborne try a Souls game first. It'll give you an idea what your getting into in terms of difficulty and story telling. Failing that maybe watch some Youtubers, but bare in mind players like EpicNameBro are very good at the game and make it look simple, you will be nowhere near that level.

Not to stereotype, but I think most casual gamers will be put off by the style and difficulty so expect there to be dozens of secondhand copies available next week, which is making me consider holding off until next week incase I can grab it for a little cheaper. But I've really been looking forward to this game so I'll probably grab it and lock myself away all weekend.

@JackXX

The Dark Souls games don't interest me as much. I like the horror and setting of this a lot more. I think I'll be ok I've seen people have the game already that didn't play the other games and they are doing ok.

You've completed Ori, Jack. This will be a piece of piss.

Apparently review embargos pushed back until 2am our time.

eeep

I'm sure it'll have good reviews to be fair, not worried - 80 minimum but I expect closer to 90. Though I do think it's generally bad practice.

Pushed back or is that just the actual time they were meant to be released in the first place and people assumed it was earlier?

Preordered, hope I dont dislike it due to all the similar looking characters and less diverse options for weapon setups with 12 weaponsets (each having 2 weapons you switch between) and always having a gun or torch in your left hand.

On the face of it those 2 factors would seem to restrict your ability to personalise your character far more than Dark Souls 2 and if thats the case it might be a one character game, because there would be very little difference with a 2nd character who looks the same and has a similar weapon

Ok, so I'm wanting to get this, I've not played one before, why should I not get it?

You will die. Well, not you of course. But the game may be frustrating.

Dark Souls made me rage quit. I literally pulled the disc, drove straight to the store, and traded it in (regrettable, but it happened). It can get that bad.

There should not be an easy mode in any game ever.

I disagree, despite going straight for hardmode on every game I've played in the past ten or so years. Different strokes for different folks.

And anyone who says Dark Souls is hard needs to go get all the Super Meat Boy achievements  That game is the only game in recent years that's beaten me... Maybe I'll go back to it, but damn, it's just so hard.

Anyway, Bloodborne... Looking forward to the reviews in a few hours time! I'm staying up for the cricket, so I'll definitely be around, sharing the undoubtedly good news. Expecting positivity across the board, and a 90~ metacritic score.

Hmmm, I suppose, I love easy mode when it's Utd - Liverpool.

Reviews hitting now. Gamespot 9/10, Jim Sterling 10/10.

Lots of 9s so far.

A few reviews still in progress. Kotaku say they obsessed with it.

Probably going to end up playing it all day tomorrow seeing as I have just the one class which I'll probably skip as I'll get the game before I go to class anyways

I usually go down a sorcerer route so it'll be weird this one, with there being no magic or faith apparently. Also no shields I think so whoever perfected parrying and dodging should be fine.

Crazy good scores. Exciting stuff.

I'm buying this despite not playing any other games mentioned in this thread. Is that a bad idea? I liked Skyrim a lot, are these even remotely comparable?

You'll love it and hate it at the same time as they're all brilliant games but since you've never played one, you'll struggle through it until you get the hang of it and even then its still a very challenging game. But yeah story wise they aren't related and dark souls 2 comes out a month from now on next gen so if you like this you can get that one as well

Dark Souls 2 is out next Thursday for PS4, so I'd start with that.

Not even close imo.

Just don't expect a relaxing game and be prepared to have a lot of patience while you figure stuff out. They're not the sort of games I like to play after a tiring day at work.

not surprised by the review scores as Edge were creaming themselves in their preview last month.
one thing I took from their preview i think it's worth mentioning was they described it as a scary game, and not in a make-you-jump kind of scary but a genuine horror experience
its much darker and much more grisly than the souls' settings apparantly.

gutted i wont be playing this before weekend

I've never played the Dark Souls games either, but I love a tricky game to master and really don't mid trial & death type game play at all so this should be right up my street. I thought Lords of The Fallen was a decent game and it seemed to me to be similar gameplay to these games where you have to learn enemy attack patterns and weak spots though perhaps a bit more accessible.

Just preordered this. I have got the original Dark Souls on 360 but didn't really get a chance to get into it all that much. If i can find the time, do you guys think it'd be worth me having a mess about on that before Bloodborne comes? Y'know, just to get into the knack of the combat style and whatnot.

Although, to be fair, i do have an assignment i should be writing... :nervous:

Na don't think so. Bloodborne doesn't have shields, which sounds like a massive difference in combat compared to the Souls games. I wouldn't have lasted very long without my trusted shield!

People tend to hype the difficulty; both Souls games gave you plenty of time to get used to the combat pace and style early on against easier enemies. It's hard but fair.

Fair enough, i'm not too worried about the difficulty to be honest. I'll just keep trying again and again if i regularly die, nothing all that bad about that!
