Its very difficult to find a good topic for the debate as im first to admit my team is weakest on paper in the QF so the way usually debates go in 1v1 situations i dont stand a chance.
Built a team in a way i think its best to get the best out of Diego. No other GOATs, all players in support roles for him to shine so its now up to people if they buy that or they think the average quality of an individual will prevail with no disrespect to your tactical side. Other then few small things i already commented, its a well built side with a player that isnt far behind Diego in the all-time rank.
I like the setup and the logic behind it. I would look at upgrading Tévez to a more classic aerially-dominant CF who can exploit Beckham's crossing but there isn't really much to change there, only marginal quality upgrades.

@Downcast that post wasnt targeted to your team, it was comment in general on the topic how Maradona alone reduced or killed the difference in quality between the teams. Thats why Maradona was special, i dont think he was suited to the teams that Messi played in for example.
It didnt have Platini, Garrincha and other GOATs that you have but it was a team full of GOATs that was the point, Rijkaard in the team is just a nice coincidence.
Comparison with Napoli is just for the general philosophy regarding Diego, i wasnt tried to build a team like Napoli nor do i want to play like Napoli.

@antohan thats why i wanted Muller so badly, offers pretty much everything what Tevez does(minus dribbling) + you get a GOAT presence in the box.

Seeler

Almost picked him in one round, cant really remember which though....wanted him badly but in the end got scared of the block and went for someone else :(

Tough to decide this one. I keep changing my mind. There are things I like in both sides and some issues as well. I feel some of Downcast pairings won't work all too well, but he has a lot of quality across the park which would probably decide any game. Then Sjor have done pretty well up to reinforcement round but IMO not being able to upgrade pulls him behind a bit.

Still from what I see as a unit Sjor's team is well structured, but not sure if only the presence of Maradona will turn it around for him.

Stoichkov? And if we believe even 50% of what they say about Duncan he should be more then capable of producing match winning moments...

@Šjor Bepo

I will come back at home tomorrow evening.

good luck and congrats if you win!

So, the opposing manager left the game before the end while im still on the touchline, think he should and will be punished by the higher power, hand of God? :wenger:

I like Davids/Edwards combo to be fair with Passarella moving through, so no issue with that. I think you have a very good unit and not many overlaps or issues throughout. The only thing I think you are missing is either a top CB or Muller for Tevez. Either one of them would've been a decider for me.

Blocking eachother with Muller/Figueroa in the RR was pretty crap also :(

Odd one this.

Well-oiled fluid team loses vs. an assortment of players that looks unlikely to function well as a team.

Rijkaard was a massive upgrade, probably won it all by himself keeping Diego in his pocket.

Initially i thought we are picking two players from the same team so i went for Breitner and Muller. Tbf id probably go for both even if i got the rules right from the start...

I thought the same  and would've gone for Figueroa/Breitner and 5-3-2 formation, which essentially wouldn't be a good idea seeing that I drew Raees and my expectation of that round fell on its arse.

Thanks mate. I wouldn't have been upset to lose against a fair poster like you :)

The only regret you certainly have is the previous reinforcement round: you had a sheep and a player you didn't want and need.

You would have won easily that game with a big name in attack instead of Tevez and another one in defence.

Tevez makes sense given your philosophy/strategy. I wouldn't say the same about Edwards. From what I've seen, I'm a bit disappointed: please don't get me wrong, he was strong/tall/promising and full of energy but his passing skills seemed average. Despite his lack of pace, Motta would have been a better option: exceptional passing skills and vision, aggressive, collective and clever.

As is the custom, thanks to all contributors and voters.

Special thanks to my voters, tifosi of Platini:

WC 1986 - QF - Brazil 1 -1 France

17' 1-0 Careca (assist - Junior)
41' 1-1 Michel Platini (assist - Dominique Rocheteau)

This is the good ending version.

I also have a bad ending with Platini I will use in case of defeat.

Its a player i didnt want but its a player i needed thats for sure. He fits into mould of what i wanted on that side if we believe what they say about him, complete player that played b2b so a classic b2b wouldnt be as good, lets say someone like Essien.

Its very difficult to see him as a player from that one match compilation, specially because he played as a centerback....players game changes dramatically moving from number 10 position to the center mid positions so what you see from a player as a CB is not that relevant for him as a midfielder.

Nice! And Brazil just came out a year ago, quick thinking by someone to use its tune after the win over them

My opinion is based on a single match compilation I've watched so it has his limits obviously.
