There was that impressive looking gameplay footage last year of this game that is being developed by Game Science, Chinese indie devs. They released this video looking for more people for their project.

And this new gameplay trailer came out today.

Impressive af for an indie team. Looking forward to it!

Obvious comparison, but it does remind me a bit of Sekiro, although with less emphasis on parrying and more on powers/abilities. It looks promising, but it's hard to get excited for a game that's still several years away.

Breaking all sorts of concurrent player records on Steam already. Could be the most played single-player game of all time the rate it's going.

That's weird especially as it hasn't exactly gotten amazing reviews and seems to have a lot of bugs/performance issues. Chinese players?

Probably just the hype I guess, but you would assume there's a massive Chinese following. It's still early afternoon in China though, so those numbers could go up even more quite substantially.

I must say it does look a lot of fun and reviews have generally been very good, main issues seem to be performance and all the controversy surrounding the developer. Not sure my 2060 Super could handle it, though.

Not really played a game like this in years but, from watching gameplay walkthroughs, the fighting mechanics in these games has never really come on at all has it?

I just watched a scene where he's fighting a huge bear and, whilst he's swinging his weapon, the bear stays still until he finishes his attack. Then the huge bear swings at him and it shows damage, but he should be hurled 30ft by the size of the bear and the huge swings it takes. It feels like games in general stopped progressing at some point in many ways. These are issues that were there on the original PS - with games like Final Fantasy etc. The fighting is very unrealistic.

It's a computer game?

Is it any good? Or buggy as hell?

Reviewers didn't get ps5 version until yesterday.

Probably be a better experience sometime next year when it's been continuously updated.

Just got a voucher to buy it.

Total will be about £48.

Downloading it..
PC I gather?

It has been a game I've kept a eye on since the trailer released sometime back. Hoping it plays well.

Was on the fence about this one, but downloaded it for ps5. Haven’t got loads to say on it so far as I’ve only beaten the first 2 bosses. Gameplay feels good so far, though I kind of wished Wu Kong was a little quicker moving around and the scenery looks great. There is a feeling of some of the ‘quality’ being a little outdated in places such as Wu Kong’s running animations not quite looking right and the use of invisible walls is frustrating as they’ve created what looks like a fabulous semi linear environment to explore but unable to access much of it. Also the game could do with a patch, though I haven’t encountered any bugs yet, it feels a little undercooked.

Yeah it's a computer game, but does that mean it has to be so clunky or that improvements can't be made? How can you get absolutely thumped by a 20ft bear and not even move? It's just daft and the mechanics seems still so basic. Like I said, this is how these type of games were on the original PS.

I can't answer your other questions as I've not played it. Watched 2 minutes of gameplay and thought it's not for me. To be honest, the only games I even touch these days are FIFA/EA FC and Cod. And I've not played Cod in over a year.

Not been a PC gamer since FM2009, PS5.

Putting Jedi Survivor and Days Gone on hold for this - best be good.

The question was for the thread about the bugs, waited for cyberpunk for a year what a masterpiece that was.

I don't play Fifa or Cod, more of an RPG fan myself. Anyway... got the game.

Bets its undercooked as the poster said above, normally wait.

I'm not sure that sort of stuff would improve the gameplay though. Gives me flashbacks to Horizon: Forbidden West where every single attack staggered Aloy and threw her to the ground. That just made combat insufferable.

I'm no computer game guru - if that is what people want then fair enough. Just seems shite to me. You'd think there'd at least be a flinch, parry/block, or anything when you get hit, but the character is still swinging away with their weapon as though there's nobody there. And the way the bear thing stops dead whilst you absolutely thrash it with your weapon...I don't know. Like I said, it's just not for me.

Broke Steam's concurrent player record. I am waiting for more reviews and you guys to find all the bugs

Saw Shroud was playing it. Checked it for a minute. Saw a cutscene that looked subpar and turned it off.

This big head guy is killing me.. but I must kill him.

I got him after like an hour of trying. As soon as I mastered the charging focus and heavy attack thing it was fairly easy.

It’s a great game so far though, solid 8/10. I find it being a soulslike without punishing you for death a refreshing change for the genre (although I wouldn’t want it any other way in an actual souls game).

100% chapter 1, 2 and 3, almost done with chapter 4.
God, I love this game.

It's good to great. I'm in the second chapter. It's essentially a boss rush. Game needs a map. Enjoying it though. Graphics are amazing and the boss fights are excellent.

There are more bosses than standard enemies. So far the bosses aren't repeat assets either, which is impressive.

I’ve had two separate bosses that were just repeats tbh, but the movesets were wildly different at least.

I feel like the repeats probably have their place from a story perspective too but tbh I have next to no idea what’s going on.

Same.

My understanding of the original story is that an overpowered monkey with a stick flies around on a cloud being a bellend to people until he’s told he can’t keep being a bellend all the time.

Soooo where on a FROM software scale are we putting this one?

I'll probably get this once back from travels this weekend. Nice success story already for the devs after the last year+ of gaming industry decimation.

Journey to the west was a big hit in South East Asia & East Asia. So its not only China that is familiar with it. Therefore Im not surprised to see it doing very well with the numbers.

This monkey was my childhood.

It’s not strictly a souls game, just has similarities, so it’s hard to rate it on that scale. I still say it’s a solid 8/10 game though.

There’s A LOT of bosses and I’m all for it. They are really fun, well designed and challenging for the most part. When the combat flows, it really flows.

Currently stuck on some cnut called Black Loong on chapter 2 which is a really fun boss.

Starting to get a bit more into this. Finished chapter 1 beating all available bosses, the final to story ones were insanely hard but somehow managed to scrape by. Made a good start to chapter 2 as well.

The combat system is easily one of the best on the ps5. They’ve managed to borrow ideas from other games but at the same time created their own identity.

So how different is this in the boss front. I don’t actually enjoy the fact that in souls games I can play 3 hours lose to a boss and lose all my progress. Is this the same, or can I just keep repeating the same boss till I eventually beat him?

The latter. No punishment for death in this so the anxiety of losing progress isn’t there.

There’s a pretty frustrating area in chapter 3 though.
