Betis Fans

If those were Englishmen you wouldn’t hear the end of it.
It’s all about context. When the brits go nuts they go proper nuts. What the Betis supporters have done even though it’s unacceptable and very disappointing but in grand scheme is fairly standard Idiot football fan shite. The brits tend to cause mayhem in the city prior to games as well.

Being from Ireland and obviously seen the time England fans trashed our stadium causing the game to called off as it’s played in media all the time and all the videos when the Euros and WC do be on you think English fans are worst.

In reality from my multiple visits to OT and numerous stadiums in Europe I can safely say that English fans are one of the best for not causing trouble. Yes there is idiots but overall I’ve never seen a country more criticised. From my personal experience Spainish and definitely Italian is way worse. I was at a Roma game and the fans where being racist and causing murder

It's widely known that the match at Lansdowne road was hijacked by an organised hooligan element. Due to the close proximity of the 2 countries, it was very easy to organise and fairly cheap for these people to congregate. Only problem was, they couldn't find anyone to fight. This was a culture clash in many ways, because that sort of thing doesn't exist in Ireland. People don't get into scraps watching sport. In many ways, this incident was a throw back to an bygone era, and many of those people who tried to cause trouble will be in their 60's now.

It is very rare to see violence in an English football stadium now.

Tgst is exactly what I mean though but the Irish media play it the odd time and as I said the odd English fans that kick off during the WC etc get way more attention that other nations.

As stated the reality is English fans and stadiums are one of the safest and less violent in Europe but it seems the media try their best to make this look untrue.

Hitting people with belts isn't 'fairly standard' behaviour.

Just because you don't see it at the stadium doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Last season also had a record increase in fan arrests at grounds in England since 2012/13 so I don't think it can safely be said.

It’s really nothing in European football. I’m not going to post videos on here but all you need to do is search ‘ultras’ on Twitter to see the trouble at several Europa League games this week alone.

I’m not defending it, especially when it’s against fans who don’t want trouble. You can guarantee there will be videos of Betis fans trashing bars next week that have United fans in, even though the vast majority will just be there to get drunk and enjoy themselves.

I stopped travelling to European away games abroad after the St Etienne debacle back in the 70's that led to a ban.

Never mind the St Etienne fans, the French Police were swilling down wine inside the stadium, then piling on to the terraces and laying into United fans, just for singing.
Got hit on my arm by a police baton, it didn't break but badly bruised couldn't hold anything heavy for a week or more and lost time off work (and wages). My boss said "fancy United fans fighting with the French police...and losing!"
In those days nobody outside those who were there really knew what went on, we were all just classed as 'football hooligans' and the home leg had to be played in Plymouth (I think?)
Of course I was a lot younger (and dafter, no doubt) but I would say be careful to anyone travelling to Betis next Thursday.

I've often wondered if they're mixing the sound with a bias towards the away end, particularly in big cup games, as it's not the first time I've thought an away end was incredibly (and unusually) loud. The coverage of the Leeds game at Old Trafford was particularly strange, their away support is good, but the sound of it drowned out everything.
They will be, intent on drowning out any anti-Glazer songs and chants rather than for general anti-United reasons.
