This obviously can't be the definitive United team, as I'm not including the players from the 50s.

So it's for the best United team of the past 40 years.

If I miss anyone important, I'll have to redo the thread!

I don't see the poll.

Unless I'm doing it wrong, you can't post the poll at the same time as the topic.

I voted for Denny but Arthur Albiston would have been second choice

I chose Heinze because eventually i think he will surpass Irwin (hope)

Nah, you can just add them afterwards, then edit the counts if anyone wanted to change their vote

Good idea this

Liv, could you make the next one a public poll? This way we can collectively mock anyone who votes for someone rubbish

the only ones i know are irwin, heinze and sylvestre so i voted irwin as he is the best between those three dont know about the rest tho

I agree but if my aulfellah was online Tony Dunne would defo have one vote

Irwin possibly the best full back we've had. But we've had better left backs than right backs and Irwin played right back for us a bit.

Personally I'd have Albiston OR SHARPE at left back and Dennis at right.

Not that I think there can be any comparison between Irwin and Heinze for now (even if Gabby hasn't been injured for the past year), but why do people call him injury prone? He has suffered ONE major injury, pure bad luck. The fact he's out again now may have something to do with the amount of time he was out. I wouldn't call him injury prone though.

What about Lee Martin. Won us an FA Cup final.

You think it would make a difference to the result? :)

Him indoors tells me that Alex Forsyth was actually a right back?

Why are you not including players from the 50s.

There's not much point in doing all this if your going to leave out players like the legend that was Roger Byrne, who was the best left back by a country mile!

I see you edited your first attempt, which was:

How the feck can you leave out the legend that was Roger Byrne.

You've managed to feck this vote up big time. Muppet!

I said I wasn't including players from the 50s, because the vast majority of people won't have seen them play. Lots of people haven't seen the players of the 60s and 70s either. I also said it wouldn't be the definitive team for that reason.

Apologies for overreacting, it's what us Grumpy Old Gits do.
It's just that we're not all 16+ spotty youths who've only followed United for a decade.
I'm going back to the Old People's home to have my bag changed and sulk!

Unfortunately, there aren't enough oldies on here to make it a "proper" vote.

I'm sure there's no question that a lot of the Busby Babes team should win hands down. But people who haven't seen them won't vote for them. I thought it best not to include them, rather than see names like Byrne, Edwards, Taylor etc. languishing near the bottom of the poll for that reason.

I knew I'd get a really good sensible answer from a woman.

Makes sense Livvie, it would be embarrasing to see lots of legends languishing at the bottom of a poll.

I'll let you get on with it and go back to my basket weaving at the Old People's Home! ;)
