Best Scenario?

It is very unlikely we will win the CL this season mainly due to the reason that our defence isn't good enough to cope with European class attacks. We are standing still in this aspect.unlikely, were almost in the 1/4 finals and have as good a chance as we ever did. The last two seasons we havnt been on form during the crucial periods, this season like in 1999 looks better.

Hence a shake-up is needed.signing a defender and an attacker is not a shake up. A shake is 5 or moreplayers out and the same amount in with possibly a new manager. A shake up is not neccesary, just your average amount of close season activity

FYI, I was around since '83 - what makes you think I wasn't there in the late 80s?the fact that you seem surprised that were not walking home with every cup in sight, Were battling away for th European cup and the league, you cant ask for much more than that.

Not possible really IMO ... and what I actually mean is - I don't hope to get another big name to cramp up the already very congested midfield ... Unless one of them leaving ( "V" is the ONLY choice for me ... none others )

Id say unless he signs his contract soon then Beckham is the obvious choice

Blanc was initially going to come to play alongside Jaap. He said that when he arrived and was as miffed as the next guy when Jaap was sold. Don't ask me for a quote coz I can't be arsed to find one ... Anyway Fergie seems to think Larry is worth keeping around for another year at least!

Could it be that Fergie knows best???

Correction. Blanc initially THOUGHT he would be playing alongside Stam, Sir Alex stated that Blanc was brought in as a replacement for Stam and assured the fans that we would not regret that move.

Blanc is not going to be around next season as he has said he is already feeling the effects of age and will be stepping down and I pesonally agree with him.

We need to build for the future, not for the past. Fergie has already mentioned that he would still buy a centre-half thi summer regardless of Blanc leaving or not.

LOL! How has Blanc done better than Stam when Stam's not even around to prove it?

How does it look better? Or is it just wishful thinking? We have looked very shaky at times eg vrsus Nantes and Deportivo plus our poor record against the big teams means we aren't exactly favourites.

But you agree that the defence needs strengtheing right? I would prefer a total shake-up of the defence and keeper playing staff but I would be satisfied with the signing of a couple of defenders.

I am not expecting us to sweep away with everything in sight - please don't put words into my mouth. I am merely pointing out the fact that we have a very mediocre defence compared to our main rivals and has been an achilles heel for us throughout the season (Sat's game against west ham was the latest proof of that). Even you would agree that this area needs a lot more steel and some new blood injected into it.

Our defence (and keeper) has also cost us several points this season and may well cost us the title and CL.

I wouldn't mind if we purchased 1/2 defenders this summer while giving Blanc one more year plus a coaching job - the next summer we can get another defender if need be.
