I still prefer Apocalypse Now.
the actual opening scene for Saving Private Ryan was in the cemetery in Normandy, then it transitioned to the landing craft. Tom Hanks was the main character in those landing scenes but he was already dead and it looked like Ryan was recalling an event that he wasn't a part of. pedantic? yeah, I know.
still doesn't detract from the power of the landing scenes though.
