Best Horror Movies

The scary filum:

I don't think i've ever been as scared as I was when I first watched An American
Werewolf in London.

I still think about it when i'm on my own in the underground and have never walked on a moor.

Brilliant movie. When I was in London last year, and we were in the underground I was thinking about that scene too. I wonder what station they filmed that scene.

How can these be classed as horror movies?

I like good old fashioned horror movies where somebody is getting chased down a dark alley with nowhere to go. Or somebody is trapped in a house with no escape.

I can take a bit of blood or tiny bit of gore as long as it isn't graphic, but sometimes it does go OTT.

It's all about shock value. I think people are desensitised to the usual blood and gore so they just keep trying to raise the bar, just too high imo.

28 Days Later

Also, I have never been so on edge for the first half of Signs, and than I was totally perplexed about the second half and how the film faltered into a movie that ignores basic science and was too heavy on the religious overtones

Ditto to I Am Legend

Nosferatu
A Tale of Two Sisters
Dracula
Nightmare on Elm Street
Dawn of the Dead
The Fly
Rosemary's Baby
Psycho
Bride of Frankenstein
Silence of the Lambs

There's a good mix in there really, still need to watch a couple of them actually. Watch A Tale of Two Sisters, only really good horror movie I've seen in the last 10 years or so. The Orphanage was good too actually. Martyrs and Inside are meant to be decent.
Ah yes, how could I forget Rosemary's Baby. Poltergeist is another goodie.

On film 4 around 11 tonight
Really? Cheers for the notice, might watch a bit of it tonight.

The film is a bit iffy IMO but the soundtrack is excellent.

The original Night of the Living Dead is available on youtube, and the remake from 1990 is also there, though in nine different parts.

Didn't you bother with The Tenant? Check it out, if you've haven't already.

I agree with the people that said Rosemary's Baby, The Fly (cronenberg's version), Dawn Of The Dead (the remake) Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Shining.
I'd also add The Thing (scifi/horror) as some people are counting Alien.

I think theres one called Grave Encounter thats meant to be decent. I forget. hth

Felt like cheap horror, Spoons. Entertaining and typically Polanski in many ways, but it was just too, I dunno, unpolished for me. I liked it I just don't think I'd recommend it. I'd have it a long way behind Repulsion never mind Rosemary's Baby.

Watched The Orphanage for the first time last night. Had to sleep on the couch.

I like horror movies that end like that. Like you don't have to be afraid of it anymore. Not that it helped last night.

Rosemarys Baby really freaked me out some years ago. Didn't even looked at what she saw in the crib.

Tottenham Court Road am pretty sure.

Think it was The Omen that got me into horror films when I was young. Excellent film.

Grave Encounters. It is terrible.

Martyrs was terrible, by the way. Torture porn.
