Bernardo Silva

Reminded me of Messi, great touch and dribbling. Not much pace mind but tidy player.

Not much pace but enough acceleration and agility to leave defenders for dead. That's what you need for dribbling.

Marvelous player to watch, not sure he's got enough end product though

Very messi-esque isn't he? His ball manipulation and the way he pirouettes is a joy to watch.

As well as the nutmeg, followed by the through ball, I felt this was also great to watch. He was playing with the City players, at times.

May get stick for this but i dont see him as winger. Looked uncomfortable there sometimes but with that negative start i would sign him over mbappe.

I can see his future in the modric role. Great close feet control excellent vission and also looking for a pass forward. Perhaps our heir to Carrick, i would be putting him first on our list of players to sign.

Seen him play a few times now, each time i thought the same, not a natural winger but amazing potential in the middle as a deep lying playmaker.

Can't remember the exact incident and the video seems to cut out a moment too soon but it does look as though all that fannying around ended up with him giving the ball away in a really dangerous area?

He doesn't seem to possess the passing range or David Silva-like ability to control the tempo of games that is necessary to fullfil that role. He'll likely remain an attacking player.

Yeah i wont be able to elaborate on that, only seen him 3/4 times but from what i did see i think that vision and low ball passing is definetly there.

Not sure about tempo, Monaco were all over the place yesterday and scored 3! But they fell apart and lost a lot of rythm when he went off .. who knows. Modric began in an advanced role too ...

It wasn't his best match and many people think he is an winger which is false, in my opinion I would like to see him playing in the Spanish League.

No chance of making it as a CM or a DLP. I can see where you are coming from on the winger front though.

His ideal position would be as a am in a three man midfield, with freedom to roam ala David Silva.

I didn't think he was that great yesterday.. his dynamism wasn't quite there. Usually runs at players more but seemed quite subdued by his standards.

He played for Benfica youth teams as an number 10 in a midfield 3, he is not an winger, it was Jardim at Monaco who made him play as an false winger, like Jorge Jesus did with João Mário when he was at Sporting, Fabinho was an fullback and Jardim made him an central midfielder.

Looking at the stats from last night it seems he completed more passes than any other player in Monaco's side, which perhaps supports your theory more than my own.

You thought he was good tonight? A few good moments but kind of invisible a lot of the time.
Until the game devolved into absolute madness, I thought he looked very good. He has a way with the ball that draws opponents to him and drags them out of position, which enables his team-mates to scatter and gobble up the vacated space. It's a useful asset. He looks like a very useful conduit to open up the field.
It was a bad performance.
In what way? I don't watch Monaco, so have no idea what his usual game is.

He wasn't as present as usual, he wasn't accelerating the game as usual and technically he wasn't as accurate as usual.

Technically as in his passing? If so, what's an equivalent level to his passing at his best amongst other good passers in the game?

I'm not really good at comparing players but what I mean is that the weight of his passes, the orientation of his first touches wasn't as accurate and as impactful as it usually is.

Couldn't be the case he was not 100% fresh?

Still think Jardim waited too much making the substitutions.

I agree with JPRouve while I don't think it was a bad performance it wasn't near what he is producing week in week out.

Still think it be a pointless signing as yes he might be slightly better than Mata/Mikhi from what I've seen and defiantly will improve he looks best in the AM free role which doesn't suit us we need a RW as I don't want to splash 60/70 Mil on him then get the Mihki conumdrum where he is played out wide but looks much better in the center.

Maybe but City played well, the pressing was good. As for the substitutions, Boschilia was the third member of the attacking midfielders, his injury is a real problem for Jardim.

In my opinion the perfect league for him is Spain, and United needs more an holding midfielder and maybe an forward like Griezmann, lets see what Mou will do.

Yes, he only has now Moutinho, but still think the game was in a chaotic phase and maybe he needed to take Mbappé and put Moutinho instead of Germain, he lost the control, and the absence of Jemerson , Falcão missing the penalty and Subasic made the result.

By the way, losing Glik means more Raggi for the next one?

Absolutely. I think he is a great player but not what we need. We need a Carrick replacement and Griezmann as the muppet signing

Yeah Raggi should start but he is generally good so it's not worry. The problem for me was Sidibé, Jardim should have replaced him with Touré, put Moutinho instead of Mbappé and play in 433 with Fabinho as a sentinel.

I've watched every Monaco game this season and about 75% of their games last season, and I can tell you that was a below-average Bernardo Silva performance.

What is happening with Jardim, the man is in full offensive mode, the Jardim I know always was safety, control and waiting for the mistake, yesterday even Fabinho after the match said they needed to play more for the result, it was a complete mess, Wengeresque and less Mourinhesque, just wait untill Mou says if it was him he would never suffer 5 goals.

Why does he not use sometimes the 4/3/3, maybe yesterday they needed to adjust, but credit to City and Pep too.

I'd like to see him play for bayern or for guardiola honestly. Real Madrid too. Think his skillset would truly shine on those teams. His ability to beat his man, draw multiple defenders on him and lay it off is already incredible. He almost never loses the ball or misplaces a pass. Reminds me of hazard in that regard(or iniesta). He'd be better suited as a facilitator, a can-opener, than a goal-scorer/assist-man. Nearly everything monaco did well offensively yesterday went through him. Not sure he'll ever become the kind of player who can control/dominate games/make his teammates better(a la zidane)

I think he is more similar to Rui Costa in the way he creates, but with an different aproach when he makes inside movements to the area where he makes the diagonals playing as an interior winger, lots of creativity, hopefully Santos will use him wisely in the National Team.

If he becomes as good as Rui Costa :drool::drool:
