Bernardo Silva | Man City Player

He is easy on the eye and does fancy touches here and there, but he has no end product. He was good i thought, compared to Guedes and Quaresma

What exactly did he do tonight? And what did he do in the other World Cup matches?

Cavani was the best player on the pitch followed by Godin.

He seemed to be their only hope in Portugal's last game, really good performance.

He's like Isco with pace, though Isco have superior ball control. Was really the main playmaker in that game.

Well they lost so it certainly wasn't a really good performance but what he did do he should have done in the 3 games prior. Given the season he had at Monaco and the move to City he should have given Portugal a much better shot than at previous tournaments, he should have linked with Ronaldo a lot more as well but didn't

Very disappointing WC from him

You're watching different game. He was the only one who carried the ball for the full 90 minutes. Tireless, quick, spread the ball really effectively. Connectte with both flanks and always finding Ronaldo.

But it's one of those games where the other team is playing on the break and putting all men inside the box which is pretty hard to break.

Other players like Manuel Fernandes, Guedes and Guerreiro were wasting the build up play he created so well.

He was lively.

Well, that's some spectacular logic from you here.

Oh I'm sorry did I hurt your feelings because I spoke negatively about a City player, grow up little boy you cant say a creative player had a very good performance when his side scored 1 goal in 120 minutes one of which he didn't create or score

No I didn't, I didn't say he had a bad game did I? I even said what he did yesterday he should have done in the previous games

Ah my mistake! Sorry should understand better.

Agreed with you that he should have done that earlier.

Good player but hugely overrated on redcafe. You'd swear City had signed 20 year old Messi when they signed Silva, the meltdown was real!

Never gonna be as good as Isco.

He looks kind of impotent in the final third. Like having a shot etc is the final resort

Him and Isco were quite disappointing in this WC. Too much dribles here and there and the end product was terrible.

A season on the bench can really hurt a player

Think this is his limit. Not enough physicality. Guys like Messi and Hazard are small but thick which provides them great balance on he ball and acceleration. Besides he is not yet very tactically intelligent.

Fancy dribbles/flicks/touches means nothing if you can't strike the ball into the net regularly or be an assist machine. Until then, meh.

I only watched Portugal's last game (where I thought at times he was excellent) but for City I would say he got better and better as the season progressed. I don't see him as being physically weak nor does he seem to lack game intelligence. His actual goals and assists was reasonable as well last season. I'm actually confident that next season his contribution will be highly significant.

He’s a good player and city are lucky to have him. He’s a great option that will worry lots of teams in the PL next year. City have been getting it spot on in the transfer market since pep joined and I see this lad being more of the same, especially now he’s had a season to bed in.
Sigh.

Expecting big things from him this year. He was magnificent yesterday v Chelsea. He’s ready to replace Silva right now in that central role, IMO. Guardiola shouldn’t wait another year or two to make that switch.

Guy is absolute class. Already got a replacement for David Silva and not just in name alone.

D.Silva is still just as good as him if not better, proven player. I think they will share equal time this year

He's been brilliant all pre-season by the sounds of it.

Him, De Bryune and Fernandinho in midfield looks decent.

Kind of funny that we gave City no competition to sign so many good players when we could have used them ourselves.

Signing Bernardo or Mahrez would have been a much more thought out transfer given they can actually play in a position where United needed someone.

Ya I agree, just had to drop the Sanchez line. And Fred too, as someone pointed out above.

Mahrez was a no brainer. Kinda hilarious that it looked like we didn't even make an attempt.

They need to start looking to replace Fernandinho. He's not gonna last a full season after a world cup year at 33. There's already some signs he's energy might be getting diminished.

But yeah, replacing one Silva with another was a master stroke from Pep. KDB with B.Silva can be their creative midfield sorted for the next 5-6 years easily. If he manages to find a Fernandinho mk II, he's set this City team up for a long time in terms of having a squad capable of competing for the title year after year. Their attack is mostly young, bar Aguero.

The cnuts, they have so much strength

And still Pep looks for one more CDM. Poor Pep must be fuming with the lack of depth.

He's not wrong though. He needs a CDM to bed in and gracefully replace Fernandinho. Same as he did with B.Silva giving him a year of occasional league appearances and cup starts to find his feet in the league and learn the new system.

He's not fuming, he's just pointing out the next position that could become a weakness very soon if it's not strengthened.

I just wish we'd do the same in terms of identifying weakness and look at replacing the Valencias, Matas and Youngs of our squad with players at their peak. Instead of stockpiling CBs that we don't necessarily need.

Agree on that,we have had issues with fullback positions for many years especially. Last class fullback we had was Evra.

When you have bought as much as City did, other clubs would be more prone to improvisation as opposed to buying. Look at us, we have an aging winger at LB for first choice and his understudy (Shaw) at times seems like the Claudio Bravo of LBs.

There's no denying Pep has it way easier. A back up CDM might be a need, but if bought now itself, it is pure luxury.

That's part of the reason we were 20 points behind mate. Because of players past their peak on improvised positions. It's more of an example to avoid rather than follow and quite a state if you consider how much money we spent ourselves. Even Liverpool don't have that problem any more after their signings.

The amount of money spent wouldn't bother Guardiola. He wouldn't look over his shoulder at how much the other teams are spending, he only cares to have the best possible squad for this season and the future. He wants City to make an assault on the CL and try to retain their title and he's trying to eliminate weaknesses from the squad. The dependence on a 33yo Fernandinho after a WC year, is a weakness.

You can call it luxury if it makes you happy. I call it good planning.

I think they already have a replacement for Fernandinho in Claudio Gomes the lad is only 18 but from what I have read City do have a real gem in the making if he fulfills his potential. He has been described as a blend of Makelele and Kante. Well lets see how that puns out.

Every cloud has a Silva lining.

Pep slowly bedded him in last season and he wasnt needed, i expect him to unleash him this season with Silva getting older and Sterling isnt all that. Had a great pre season and looks like he arrived in the city team
