Ben White | Arsenal

He's everything that's wrong with modern football.

A defender that can't defend, but he can knock it around fairly well and look's stylish on the ball = 50 million.

How Arsenal have paid that for him when he was the 3rd best central defender at brighton is laughable.

Completely agree. Lewis Dunk is much more effective

For me, Linolof is far better than him. Was a strange signing for Arsenal at that price.

How about 90?
Nah, still not writing any player off after a game. It’s been a rotten debut but wouldn’t be the first time and it can be turned around.

I’m just giving benefit of the doubt I hate when folks write Utd players off early doors so it should be the same no matter who

Just seems too weak to be the main man in a defensive pairing. I would think he'd be better suited to playing in a back three.

Tierney and Rowe have really impressed.

Put him with players like Maguire or Dunk , you would see a brilliant player.

Rudiger used to be hilariously bad as recently as last season, had to laugh at him being up for UEFA team of the season. I'm sure he had a good run but wow, I've seen him look very bad at times.

Thread title checks out — he’s still at Brighton.

He’s been deplorable, you’d nearly feel sorry for the lad.
At fault for either goal? So few really imposing CBs these days, so different to when I first started watching United in 08. But then the game has changed so much, especially at CB, everyone wants speed and ball playing now.

Better deal than Varane apparently.

Has proven to be an absolutely horrendous signing so far. To think they paid 50m for that is absurd.

Wouldn't even be our 4th choice centreback.

Varane, maguire, lindalof even baily are levels above.

Second goal
Watched the ball bounce two yards out from a flicked on throw in and then reacted too late to stop the header.

Generally lacked authority throughout and was completely bossed in the air by Ivan Tony.

Not at fault for the first goal (all Chambers) but maybe could have done better on the second. But he was up against Toney though, who I suspect most CB's will struggle to handle physically. What should really worry Arsenal fans though, was how easy he was turned inside out by Mbeumo in the first half. It looked really half-arsed.

Gave away a chance which Branford player should have buried. Terrible competitive debut.

I think he’d do well in a back 3 but I don’t think he’s suited to play in 2 man CB. Not the best start to his Arsenal career.

Big fee for a player with relatively little experience coming into a terrible defence, not sure he’s got the ability to sort this Aresenal defence out.

Think he has a chance to come good in 2 or 3 seasons, but still a tough ask for the money. Very much a work in progress and might take some time like Stones did

I didn't watch the game, but did frequent the Arsenal mania forum, where many Gooners said he got dominated aerially. Not a good start but its still early days for him, and It seems he needs a more commanding figure next to him.

So Arteta essentially needs to bid another £50million for Ben Mee.
