Beckham, Scholes, Keane, Giggs - The Best Ever?

Im not sure on whether I think 1999 was better than the 1994 midfield of Kanchelskis, Ince, Keane Giggs.

views?

In terms of flair the 99's edge it, they have everything needed to unlock any defence, added to the chemistry and muscle of Cole/Yorke. Pretty much balanced things out perfectly.

In addition, we're a threat in free kicks / corners.

IMO, the sublime passing of Scholes, Beck's pinpoint passes, Giggs' dribbling, and Keane's steel is the epitome of a perfect midfield component (I'm not saying best yet, but they are complete)

The one negative point I'll make is that Scholes didn't truly hit his peak until the other three started falling away a little. If he'd been at his best at the same time as the others, maybe we'd have added to the '99 CL win during that period.

I'd say it's the best we've ever had (although I only have clips of the '94 side to go by, seeing as I was only 3 or 4 when they were at their peak) when you place all four of the midfield together.

All four of them were at their peak in that time because they're all of a similar age. They were outstanding, but maybe I'd swap Beckham for Ronaldo to make it the perfect midfield.

See, I think switching Ronaldo for Becks would mess everything up, even though Ronaldo is clearly better than Beckham ever was. I think the key in that midfield was the balance and I think it would be gone with Ronaldo out wide right.

Keane was a British record transfer in his day. It was money well spent, like Rio and Rooney, but he would have attracted a fee of around 25-30m in today's climate. He was the best young midfielder in the English game and all the top English clubs wanted him.

Still a great midfield and easily the best quartet I have seen at United. The fact that three of them(four including Butt) were home grown players was a brilliant achievement for Fergie. They delivered in Europe, something Ince never did for United and Ince was very much the main man of the 94 midfield. When we needed him most he got sent off in Gothenburg. Selling him was a great decision as when you add all the factors together Keane was better than him in every way.

Well Ronaldo was age 13 at the time. ;)

Possibly but some would also say adding Ruud van Nistelrooy to that side instead of Yorke might have had a lesser effect. Do remember that SAF's brother mentioned a young Dutch striker that might turn out a good signing for a few million. I believe the side would have lost the pinpoint crossing and range Beckham possessed but it would have gained a carbon copy of Giggs for the right side with a player of Ronaldo's ability.

Juve - Davids, Deschamps, Zidane + another.

Conte mostly.

That was an incredible midfield that I loved watching. I can't really say which one was better, but the midfield that is the topic of this thread was my favourite ever.

To be fair, Giggs hit his peak before Becks & Scholesy were even in the team...

94 Giggs, 99 Keane, 2000 Beckham & 2002 Scholes....thats what you want

Yes I think so. If you are talking about the balance, this midfield has got it all.

Lazio 2000: Nedved--Veron--Simeone--Stankovic

That midfield could have worked
