Beckham is one of those few players who can turn a game almost on his own. Van Nistelrooy can. Giggs should be able to, though he hasn't really shown that for a while. Veron was bought partly because he was supposed to be able to. Scholes can as well.
The thing is with the Real team, they have many more of these players than we do. And their players are better at it than ours are. Why add to their strengths?

Costacurta? Yeah, and maybe Laurent Blanc.

In my opinion, to qualify as a "Best Player" you have to have most if not all of the following in no particular order:
1. Reliability
2. Match turning Skills
3. Passion
4. Loyalty
5. Consistancy
The reason why I don't put Skill in there is because you can have 2 players, and if player A is more skilled than player B, but player B has a much better grasp of the above 1-5 (esp Consistancy) he is deemed more useful - but by all means skill is a major bonus. Hence goes the theory that football is a "team" game, and a great squad with depth will be more successful. Cantona would have covered the above (except consistency in Europe) and hence is why is considered one of the greatest among United Legends.
Now based on your post, I would put Beckham in the same catagory as Giggs. I seriously don't think Beckham is one of our best players, but I think he should be. The thing that lets him down is his inconsistency. Whether that is for personal reasons or Physical I am not so sure.

Fair enough.
But why add to Real's strength?

Florentino Pérez, Real Madrid's president, has been today in Manchester asking for buying Beckham AND Van Nistelrooy, both, for the same amount the two players (I don't know how much money).
Some days ago I was sceptical about Beckham, now It's near sure. Rumours about RVN are getting more serious for moments.
You are going to have a lot of money to spend</strong><hr></blockquote>
For us, Ruud is absolutely crucial, our best and most important player.
But why is Real Madrid interested in him when you have such a wealth of strikers? With Raul, Ronaldo and Portillo (I understand huge things are expected of him), where would RVN fit into all of this? He's not a marketing goldmine like Becks.
Are these rumours from the Spanish press or is it from another source?

how was the atmosphere where you were sat last night? </strong><hr></blockquote>
Surprisingly, it was pretty good. I knew it was going to be a different kind of night when I sat down before the match and the guy next to me joined in with the singing, as well as the kid behind me. I thought, right well that'll be at least 3 of us singing then! But when the match started, a lot of people actually joined in. (Well, wonders never cease!) But more than that, there was such a buzz at Old Trafford last night. It was great to be a part of it.

Yeah, every time it seemed like it was beyond reach, we'd score one and then you'd start hoping again. I remember at one point I said to the guy next to me that we only needed 3 more goals and reminded him that Ole had scored four in 10 minutes a few years back. Of course, he came back with...but that was against Nottingham Forest! (I told him that was a minor detail.
I thought the players did us really proud last night. They never stopped trying and never gave up the fight. You really couldn't ask for anything more.

Dave Beasant....Casillas...whats's the difference?
Don't mention the pride thing <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" /> maybe you've seen the thread in the main forum. I agree with your sentiments, some didn't.

I see what you mean. A whole thread on that!
The thing is, players are human. They make mistakes. But everybody makes mistakes and not everyone can win everything. I thought Real Madrid deserved to go through. They were the better team over two legs. So, I can't have any complaints.
But I thought a lot of other teams in our position last night would have given up after that first goal, and if not after the first, certainly after their second which meant we now had to score 5 to go through. But the players never gave up, even against those improbable odds. And credit to them for that.

Beckham must understand that Manchester United will be around long after he is finished and that the club has given him everything he has today, Fame, money and the best facilities and trainers there are to develope himself into the player that he is.
If he is throwing his rattle out of the pram and wants out, then lets cash in. I truly don't want Beckham to leave but like P Ince before him if you start to get to big for your boots, your out. There is only 1 Gaffer at O.T.
I honestly think that Beckham gave everything he could in the 20mins or so he got on wednesday. And thats the reaction Fergie counted on getting from Beckham. All this crap about what if he'd have started, what if this what if that!!! The game was lost at the back, not in midfield or up front. Beckham starting would not have changed the outcome, I don't think he could have maintained that level of performance for 90mins. I want him to stay but United need to change things anyway, with or without him United we stand!! As for the Ruud bit, shut up you idiot.</strong><hr></blockquote>
Has Beckham chucked his rattle out of the pram? What evidence is there to suggest that he's done or said anything unprofessional.
Unless you believe The Sun of course.

We have a vacant number nine shirt as well. Either Raul or Ronaldo would do us just fine.
Serious question, though...in a couple of the Sunday tabloids today, there's an article saying that if Real Madrid seriously makes a push for Becks that Fergie's going to ask for Ronaldo in return. It says that Real Madrid's agents have been testing the waters with top European clubs to find out what they can get for Ronaldo. Have you heard anything about this? If so, why doesn't Real Madrid want to keep Ronaldo?

Worth more than that.

Big deal - so you use the word "if" but the tone implies that you believe the tabloids. It's more than a tad insulting which is quite unnecessary if you actually believe in that word "if".
Who's taking themselves seriously? Seems like you have the direct line to OT and what's going on than I do, your post being a lot more dogmatic than mine.

because he's probably past it, and requires injections before big games. he also has an attitude problem. And also cus they have seen Ruud, who they think can be more effective than him in games. Hands off!!!!!
