BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2016

Never thought of it that way. Makes perfect sense. Nicely done Ninja!

Interesting. Never knew about that 2nd definition.

Without knowing enough to really say I would guess the second meaning is more archaic and the 1st has taken precedence.

SPOTY has been running for donkeys years so I suspect its become something of a victim of a shift in language and it was more obvious in the early days what the 'personality' part meant.

It's time Mo Farah's achievements were recognised in my opinion. Andy's won it enough times now.

Has to be Murray again for me. Do feel for Mo I mean what more can he do but then you simply have to look at the year Murray's had.

I imagine it'll be:

1. Murray
2. Farah
3. Whitlock

I'm on brownlee at 150/1 since the day he helped his brother over the line. Went into favourite at one point now second favourite.

Hoping the campaign helps him win.

What's the biggest ever winning margin? Murray's surely in with a chance of topping that.

The track cycling at the Olympics was brilliant.

feck that tour de France shit though.

There's just so many events, every fecker ends up with about 4 medals per games. It's almost as bad as swimming.

I would not say no to a bicycle long jump though. Get rid of that dopey event where they start by following a moped and add that.

I could definitely get behind that idea.

Great idea. Bonus points for flips like this girl.

Please not Murray

I'd be happy with either either of the Kenny's or Mo Farrah.

No one deserves to win it over Murray so it's fully deserved.

why is Andy Murry so miserable !

He's great. I've got a lot of time for him. Straight talking, no fuss athlete. A winner with zero interest in satisfying the media.

While the likes of Henman and Daley spend their careers buttering up the BBC, Murray's busy training hard and winning championships.

I've seen clips of him in a more "off the record" setting when he's more relaxed and he's great, very very dry sence of humour.

Couldn't agree more.

Completely agree. Absolute legend, works his arse off to become the best athlete he can.

And he does have a sense of humour outside the court. It's just so dry that many people don't see it.

Aye, for a country that prides itself on its dry humour they do an half whinge about someone with a genuinely dry sense of humour.

Hats off to him. I can't think of many better British athletes in my lifetime.
