BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2008

why dont you like Hamilton?

Nah I'm only kidding lads. But I do feel Hoy was a worthy winner. I mean the IOC dropped his event from the olympics and he trained up for another and ended up with three golds.

Glad Hamilton didn't win it. Driving round in the fastest and most reliable car doesn't deserve shit.

Sports where the competitors aren't on even playing fields are not as meaningful.

how come Heiki Kovalenen didnt finish 2nd in the championship then?

I'm glad for Hoy even thought I think Lewis deserved it winning 3 olympic gold medals is a great achievement. I might be wrong but every time the Oympics are on every 4 years an olympian wins the Sports Personality of the Year.

I can't believe a flash in the pan cyclist has won the award. Bloody farsicle.

Phenomenal performance from Hoy to became the first British Olympian for 100 years to claim three golds at one games and that probably means he deserves this award.

Shame for Lewis....hopefully it will be 3rd time lucky next year.

Off topic here on BBC Sports Personality of the Year on 5live now David Haye is on saying that he will take on Vitali Klitschko next year.

Why the HELL was Ronaldo not among the overseas nominations? He scored 42 goals and gave the best performance over a season that England and Britain has seen for years, and he doesn't even get a mention?

Spot on mate, disgrace. The whole show has become a joke since Princess Anne`s daughter won the main award a couple of years ago

Excellent, wanted Hoy to win. Hamilton can potentially win the F1 crown every year, if Hoy hadn't achieved his 3 golds this time he would have had to wait another 4 years to go for it again, just makes his achievements a little more special I think.

Murray wll win it when he wins a slam, and Hamilton is bound to win it eventually.

Hoy wins the main award, and the cyclist team win the team award?

How often does an English team win their league AND the European Cup?

How often does an Englishman win the F1 World Championship, becoming the youngest man ever to do so?

Fair play to the winners, but not the ones I'd have chosen

I agree with this

A bit of a suprise winner according to the odds but I think the negative reaction is harsh - the guy won 3 Olympic Gold medals - that is an amazing acheivement!!

Isnt Joe Calslappy nominated i didnt see his name even mentioned on the first page

 What do you have against one of the greatest British boxers of all time?

Exactly. The entire British team only won one gold medal at the 2000 Sydney games! And now some are moaning that a guy who won triple that amount at one games picked up the award. :wenger:

you are wrong, in fact in the olympic years in the 90s (92, 96) the award was by the British F1 Champion of the time - Mansell then Hill.

I thought the awards last night were fully deserved and for a change went to the right people. British Cycling is the strongest in the world and has produced the blue print for success at the highest level. I see a lot of ignorant comments on this board about it - the worst being 'flash in the pan'. The recognition of last night is in no way flash in the pan, it is 10 years in the making.

As for next year, I've just seen David Haye has lined up the first Klitschko, so I might have a a few quid on him to win it (and keep my fingers crossed that Murray doesn't win Wimbeldon).

I'm glad Adlington didn't win it, as for sure 3 Gold Medals is worth more then 2... Hamilton & Murray will get theirs some day....

Congrats to Hoy

I genuinely thought the Olympic vote would be too split to affect Hamilton. Suppose his tax avoidance didn't help him either. Still, doubt he's too worried!
