The cross fence at Newbury is an obstacle that Denman loves, and sure enough he flew over it again. I think McCoy then decided to switch him off a bit and the horse lost concentration. If you look back at the Hennessy he won in November it was after the fence he made a mistake in today that he really started to leave Niche Market behind (when that horse was in receipt of 26lbs of course)
The horse has become a bit more of a character as he's got older and for me he needs keeping to his work so trying to switch him off at any stage is a recipe for mistakes. At Cheltenham next month McCoy will need to be at the top of his game.
