Bayern Munich reach agreement to buy Arjen Robben from Real Madrid

Never said he wasnt a good player, because he clearly is. I just don't think he's all that. As for him "ripping up the PL" i'll go as far as too say he had his moments but at Chelsea he spent a notable chunk of time injured and playing unfit. Again, i didnt think he was all that.

Not disagreeing with his injury record, but he was amazing in his first season at Chelsea.

A bit disappointed we didn't go for him. It would be a gamble granted, but his potential is just ridiculous.

No doubt he's going to tear the German league apart and we'd be kicking our heels next season. Much like what happened with Ribery.

Fair enough, I was just reacting to your original comment that he never impressed you once.

 I never said that. He had purple patches where he was great but they are too few and far between and they're getting even fewer and further between these days imo.

He'll do well in Germany.

Ok 'never a fan'.

Thing is though, this pre-season he was awesome - so maybe if he stays fit he can still reach his potential.

Regardless, Ribery + Robben = Dynamite on the wings for Bayern.

Yeh i've never been much of a fan and i wouldn't read much into pre-season form.

Robben to Bayern ? After playing for Chelsea and R.Madrid, what a nice way to bury his career

yes because Chelsea are a much bigger team than Bayern :wenger:

anyway i read somewhere he's going to play on the right.
Ribery-Bastian-Tymo-Robben, Thats a class midfield with Gomez and Klose up-front Bayern will be a very good team.

Yeah they will be pretty strong this year.. also arent Bayern in the same pool as Real in this years CL ?

Think a little, going from the Premiership, to the Spanish league and finally to the Bundesliga. With all due respect to German football fans, it's a huge downgrade for a player
Bastian as a CM, I lauugh

Not sure about a "huge" downgrade. The Bundesliga's highly entertaining, the best supported league in Europe, with half a dozen strong contenders for the title. Interestingly, the last two seasons it has had a better co-efficient rating than Serie A.

That said, Real seem to be cutting off their nose to spite their face in getting rid of Robben. The whole Dutch political situation at the Bernebeu seems to be more important than matters on the pitch. And I reckon he'd be a positive addition to any squad and could do better than Bayern.

a Bundesliga club won't be making it to the CL finals anytime soon, probably not semis either

Bayern might - but then you have to get past the 4 PL clubs, Barcelona and Real Madrid first, not to mention any other clubs. Semis aren't easy to get to

He'll set the Bundesliga alight if he stays fit. Ribery and Robben is just deadly.

Oh aye, I forgot that you weren't Robben's biggest fan, Chief. Bet this one will take some getting used to. :D

You're not wrong. That's a hell of a midfield - surely the strongest in the German league and up there with the best in Europe. It's a dream for the likes of Klose.

Has anyone got any further news on Rafinha of Schalke and his proposed move to Bayern? Karl Heinz Rummenigge has said that Bayern are interested in the player and there were even reports earlier in the week that the deal had been done.
If he were to sign that would mean Bayern Munich have spent nearly 100 million euros on the likes of Gomez, Tymoshchuk, Braafheid, Robben, Pranjic, Olic, Baumjohann and Rafinha this summer. Are Bayern in a strong enough financial position to spend this sort of money or does this mean that there could be a strong possibility that in order to fund that sort of spree Ribery will be sold prior to the transfer window closing?

67 appearances for Chelsea for 2yrs and 2 months ain't too bad ya know, also scored 17 goals in the process. Was Chelsea's best player whenever played during their double PL for me.

Lies.

During that period he turned in some impressive displays no doubt but Drogba was immense at that time. JT too. You could probably throw Lamps into the mix as well.

Him and Sneijder are world class, if we haven't tried to buy them, I have fear that we have serious financial troubles

He looked absolute class against Wolfsburg, watched earlier and he was the MoM... scored a real beauty of a gola to top off a counter attack and he looks like he fits, he's played on the left for some of the match as well so it looks like he's all for the interchange.

Him and Ribery looked so threatening everytime they were going forward.

Happy for him to have found a league where he can look almost as good as people on here think he is.

Not really a fair comment, is it? Could say that for Ribery, wouldn't be true.

To be fair Ribery hasnt tried the premier league and la liga.

Post injury troubles at Chelsea, Robben hasnt been anywhere near as effective either at Chelsea or then at Real Madrid. But yes it does put Ribery's performances in bungasliga into context.

That was against the defence of the champions... They sure didnt look like it.

Well if Robben manages to stay healthy this might turn out to be the signing of the season. He was magnificent in his debut against Wolfsburg and I think him and Ribbery will be a devastating due for Bundesliga defenses. They'll still need Gomes and their defence to improve their play in order for Bayern to challenge in Europe imo.

Or where he shows himself to be a lot better than you've been saying all summer long.

'He's far too selfish, even his manager said so', 'he was barely even in the to 10 most productive players in the league' etc. over and over again, and now if he shows himself to be a very good player - which most people can see quite easily - i'm sure you'll still find manage a way to talk about how he's not that good regardless of how he plays.

Robben is class - when fit and he would be better if he was coached properly and perhaps braver. No point debating his ability.

Ribery has more to prove.

One one hand we should have went to buy Robben but on the other we have other ideas. Hopefully tosic, obertan etc live up to their potential here.

I prefferred wingers than any other positions though. Whenever fit and on form Robben was tearing the opposition apart.

Never said the players you mentioned weren't good. But Robben was probably the best winger in the league then so thats just my opinion.

No suprise that when they sold him Chelsea didn't win any PL or CL at all, only FA's and Carlings.
