Real Madrid winger Arjen Robben has confirmed he has accepted an offer to join Bayern Munich.

The Dutchman's future has been the subject of intense speculation all summer following the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka.

A return to England has been mooted for Robben with Tottenham credited with an interest in the former Chelsea star, and in recent days Manchester United have also been linked with the player.

However, Bayern Munich have stolen a march on their rivals by agreeing a €25million (£22million) deal with Real to bring the Dutch international to the Allianz Arena.

Robben believes moving to Bayern is the best option for him as he is unlikely to be playing regularly for Real this season.

"This morning I made my decision. This is the best choice for me," Robben told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.

Bayern are hoping to tie up a deal for the 25-year-old in the next 48 hours as they look to have him available for this week's clash with reigning champions Wolfsburg.

Robben is the third Dutchman on his way out of El Santiago Bernabeu this summer following the likes of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Wesley Sneijder in leaving the Spanish giants.

The news of Robben's imminent arrival is sure to fuel speculation that Franck Ribery could leave Bayern before the close of the transfer window.

I would not have minded him coming to us to be honest.

22 million is risky considering his injury problems. But if he plays and stays fit will be well worth it.

Could it be part of a Ribery to Madrid deal?

I thought Ribery had said that he'd stay at Munich this season. With this you've got to think that its odds on that he'll be moving.

I cant wait to play the new pro evo, I will go through many stints as Real madrid, Man city, Bayern and Tottenham (ignoring my obvious pick united)

Ribery and Robben in the same team - they will be quite dangerous this season.

Said before I thought he'd suit going to Bayern. Biggest club who would have taken him and I think he'll do very well, and Ribery will be less of a loss next summer. Doubt he'll be moving before then.

Ribery is left footed isn't he?

What a coincidence, Robben is left-footed as well, both are wingers too, hrmmm

... :wenger:

Surely means Ribery is on his way somewhere this summer?

No, I don't think so, it's too late in the summer to sell a pivotal player. However, I guess Real get an option to buy Ribery next summer.

25 million euros for Arjen Robben are peanuts. Great player, wouldn't have minded him at Old Trafford, but this case goes to show Real Madrid don't operate like a normal club. They sell their Dutch contingent without actually looking who's good and who's not. Robben and Ronaldo on the wings would have been an amazing formation, but I guess Robben is not Galactico enough for them.

Most Bayern supporters are absolutely over the moon, and surprisingly many Real Madrid fans are absolutely not happy about Robben's departure.

Based on last season those are some ridiculously over priced peanuts.

Not to mention they both have faces! Hrmmm. Well, Robben does, anyway.

Oh, and Ribery's right footed.

We should be all over this IF Fergie is insistent on playing 4-4-2.

Rate Robben very highly and a lot, lot better than Ribery!!

Ribery to Real Madrid?

From what I have heard they will NEVER sell him to Real.. So unless he leaves on a Bosman which Bayern can prevent (by selling him elsewhere) he will not be joining Real Madrid..

However off late we know how players can force clubs into making decisions.. I still wonder how people thought Ronaldo was a 'Modern Slave'

Bayern's general manager Uli Hoeness said about Robben, "Our intention is for him to play on the right wing with (Franck) Ribery on the left.

I thought Robben played on the left and was left footed, will be interesting to see how he does on the right.

Good player, but too injury prone and like Saha will not play unless he feels he is 100 per cent healthy. At 22 million it's a risk in my opinion.

Robben is fecking good, lets be honest here. when on form he is the most devastating pure winger in the world IMO.

He had a great pre-season too, I'd say its inevitable that Real have swung a deal to get Ribery, the only reason they would sell Robben is his injury problems.

He's played on the right numerous times for Chelsea and every time i saw him play for Real it was on the right.

I'm not a huge fan, never have been and i'm certainly not disappointed we didnt go for him.

Hasnt been on form since the season before he left Chelsea then.

Its arguable, he was really good at the WC 2006 for example, also wasn't too bad at the Euro 2008 either.

As for club, well he has been injured a lot and thats his problem, but when on form no one can deal with him.

So when he was ripping up the PL at Chelsea, you never rated him then?

Never said he wasnt a good player, because he clearly is. I just don't think he's all that. As for him "ripping up the PL" i'll go as far as too say he had his moments but at Chelsea he spent a notable chunk of time injured and playing unfit. Again, i didnt think he was all that.

I'd rather give Nani, Tosic, Obertan, Ljajic and even Welbeck a chance before buying a self fish injury prone player, who doesn't look like he'll re find his finest Chelsea form again.

SAF seems to agree.
