Barthez to go ? :(

I've read this morning that report in the Sunday Mirror

EXCLUSIVE
FABIEN BARTHEZ has decided to quit Manchester United at the end of the current campaign and Sir Alex Ferguson has moved swiftly to line up a replacement.
Derby goalkeeper Mart Poom is expected to complete a £6million move to Old Trafford in the summer.
Although a year remains on Barthez's current contract, the player and management are at odds over a number of issues.
Barthez took the brunt of the blame for United's poor form earlier in the title campaign and he has not impressed Ferguson by knocking around with Dwight Yorke, who has been accused of leading the Frenchman astray.
But the situation has been coming to a head for a while. Barthez wanted to commute between Paris and Manchester to spend more time with his sick mother and Ferguson said it would be impossible to maintain his career at United.
The keeper's model girlfriend, Linda Evangelista, is desperate to quit Manchester as well so United have been in talks with two French clubs, Paris St Germain and Monaco, to find Barthez a new home.
Although United have been linked with Sunderland's Danish stopper Thomas Sorensen, their prime target has been Estonian Poom. United moved for Poom two months ago but had to put the transfer on hold after he broke a finger.
But they have remained in touch with Derby, who were finally relegated at Liverpool yesterday, and Poom has already confided in close friends that he is on his way to Old Trafford this summer

:( :( :( :( :(

This time the article countains details that could be accurate. I had heard that Fab's poor form came from personal problems - although that story about his girlfriend is rubbish.

I can't stand the idea of him coming back to Monaco (a team I hate) and I wanted so much him to do well for Manchester United. :(

Relax. Thats just typical, shabby, Sunday newspapers writing. Barthez has one year on his contract? Didn't he sign for SIX years two years ago? That leaves... hmm.... Four?

And didn't he just recently said he has every intention of fulfilling that contract?

And if all that isn't enough.. Mart Poom? A replacement for Barthez? Come on!

It almost as stupid as replacing Schmeichel for Taibi. Oh wait ?!?

If Fab leaves we should go with Carrol. I don't want to see any more keeper experiments for a while.

I agree some parts of the report are rubbish (it's the Sunday Mirror...) but I'm not sure it's totally untrue. How do they know is mother is ill ? Poom could come as number two or three... Let's wait to see how the United board reacts...

If he goes we should get the bolton goalie Jussi Jaaskelainen
If we going to sign someone from Derby why not Riggott or Christie

If any premiership goalie is to replace Barthez it should be Given (out of contract at the end of next season and has turned down the latest Newcastle contract offer according to Football365)

Finnan for rb.

Duff for when Giggs is up front/rested.

Paddy Power

Is Riggott better than Brown?? I think not.

Poom today? It was Sorensen yesterday. It will never happen Barthez is here to stay. :)

If / when Barthez leaves, Carroll should be given a fair chance. If he was good enough for SAF to spend 2m on, he is good enough for me. Barthez isn't going anywhere tho.

Yes christie, would be a good investment ;)
anyway barthez had a great game against chelsea ;) :D

Funny, when i brought up this topic before this thread was posted (under the thread titled 'barthez to be axed?') I got slated.
So people seem to be thinking that it may be true after all then. :D

Fab is going nowhere! SO STOP THE CRAP TALK! ....................please

I would'nt normally believe this sort of rumour but come on everybody look at all the quotes from Barthez, Barthez's people, United spokespeople, Alex Ferguson etc etc, oh actually

Pooms a class keeper, I rate him quite highly, made some class saves, may not look the best of keepers, but putting him behind Larry and Ronnie and who ever else, I reckon he would fit in quite nicely to the side...

If indeed this is true, then the only viable canditate to replace Barthez would be most likely Sorensen, Shay Given (He's been rumoured to be on his way to Celtic, unlikely if United make a bid),or maybe even Enke

jedi master say we sign Bosnich....brilliant tactical mind he has too he has too, hmmm...put grand master ferguson to shame will he....

Good One!!! I am sure Bozo's quite familiar with his feet, way too many times he's stuck it up his nostrils.

If Barthez chooses to leave :( , we could go for Shay Given ? Heard rumours about him stalling on a new contract at Newcastle... Think he could be great for us (eventually)!!

I began another topic because it wasn't "Barthez to be axed". In this article, Barthez WANTS to go because of personal issues.

I have to say that I think Barthez will go this summer. But no way could it be for Poom, he has hardly done wonders for them this season. We require a world class goalie, not lower prem class. If I had to choose out of all the world's keepers, I'd pick Casillas but sadly there is no chance that Real would let him go. 20/21 and he'll probably be their first choice keeper next season ahead of Cesar which is amazing. Realistic choice is Given, since he didn't sign a new contract and got into the PFA team of the year.

Why? Because of the story in The Sunday Mirror??

According to TeamTalk, The United board has refused to make comments. This is a sign... :(

No, a number of factors, issues in his personal life, eccentricities, party lifestyle, and numerous links to goalkeepers. If he has great games in the semi's and possible Final, then he might stay, but otherwise I just wouldn't be surprised to see him leave.

I hope he stays coz he's been feckin great after Christmas and the very fact that I can't see any other good enough 'keeper available.

Either way, it amounts to the same thing...Barthez not being at OT next season.

If Barthez goes, Given has to be the man. he's a class act. Poom has impressed me everytime I've seen him too, but I'd be a bit nervous about throwing him at first choice.

Given's rumoured move to Celtic has be priced at £6M. Which I would reckon to be good money. The lad's class. Forget this season - anyone remember the keeper who kept something like 15 clean sheets in Keggie Keegle's Newcastle self-distruction year?

Given would be the best alternative, no doubt about that. Poom/orensen are not Utd class and there is no chance of getting Toldo/Bouffon etc. I dont think Cassilas would be happy in the premiership cos he's not that big and he'll get slaughtered by the opposition. Carroll deserves a shot, he hasn't really been tested yet in a big match but he's been more than competent whenever he's played. He's shown a few nerves but then I'd expect nothing less. He's also an international(although playing in front of 17 people in Windsor Park) isn't great experience but he has played against most of europs top strikers and has never been embarassed.

I'm pretty sure it was Caroll who was in goal for N.I. when they played in Iceland in the WC qualifiers and he dropped an absolute howler there...

We'll be fine then. The only international howler I've seen Barthez making was also against Iceland! Euro 2000 qualifiers I believe.

Srnicek??He is old now.

I think he might be talking about Hislop - even know he means Given... Who was still in Blackburn in 95/6.

Yeah and the one Caroll made was almost identical to that one :)

News for you all I've heard Given is on his way. It was rumered Bartez was going to leave about 6 months ago. Poome can go to Newcastle. Given has said he will not sigh for the geodies.
