Yeah, he could be. But I'd like to think Robinson could be though, United fan and all, as the reports say.</strong><hr></blockquote>
Well yeah - I worry a bit about installing such a young keeper though. We'll be in CL again and despite Robinson having played well in the CL is he ready for a sustained period of top class football, which face it, he has not experienced at the piss poor Leeds United. Our team seems to be in different stages of their lifecycles - defence at the start, midfield nearing, relatively speaking, it's peak and in Keanes case possibly the end, and the attack about to hit it's peak in the coming years. Sometime I feel the different departments could do with a little more alignment with each other and we'd have a better chance of winning the CL. Bringing in a young keeper like Robinson as number 1 might set us back a year or so.

I would not worry so much about Robinson. He has the added advantage of having played with Ferdinand before... Will be a plus, really!

Hmmm... interesting way of looking at it.
But surely a goalkeeper at the start of his career would align nicely with a defence at the start of their career?

Yep agree there - I didn't say what I wanted too though - I was thinking of an experienced CB to be brought in, but I know that is unlikely and my theory is therefore somewhat redundant on a team level. As far as the defence is concerned, you are right it would be a good youthful set up, one for the future - say 2 or 3 years for peak performance. But by then our midfield maybe being rebuilt and the team would be again misaligned to a degree (and to the degree that this way of looking at it is at all relevant).

They always say that. I think they do it to piss the fans off.

Rustu's problem is that he's a Turk. He probably speaks very bad or no english and would have a huge problem adapting. Plus Turkish players are difficult to control as their temper seems to be over the roof.
No thanks to Rustu!

He's just won the FA youth cup. But we could do worse I think.

rather stick with barthez than chuck a kid in there..
another thing that bugs me is people saying "but barthez has won us points this season due to his good saves"
whilst that may be true to a point, are those people suggesting that another keeper would not have made as equally important saves to win points?

Had a shit season though, and recently wasn't even ranked in the top 10 premiership keepers. Doesn't help playing behind the Leeds defence of course. And we don't want potential in a keeper, we want one who is already top world class.

All the world class ones are taken. Robinson is the best realistic option imo. He's a great keeper as well, and English with experience at such a young age.
Just a thought - what about Freidel or Cudicini?

If we signed him, we'd have a top class keeper who could play for us for 10 years. He'll most likely be the future England keeper, playing behind Gary, Wes and Rio. He's also more commanding than Fab. I think we could have a really solid and consistant back 5, who could play together for 10 years.

I'd rather not go out of the CL for the next few years while he develops to the peak of his potential.

So do you also blame Barthez for this season's exit?

He also beat Cisse one on one(to preserve a draw) earlier in the year under the eyes of Fergie.

I think it was his first error, but commentators said that he has to improve in the air. Could be a problem in England. Landreau has the same problem.

Vijay, it's not that I don't like him. It is simply that I think he lacks that something that has to be in a United player... He lacks that passion, that drive... </strong><hr></blockquote>
To reproach this to him is not knowing him. He has an absolute passion for the game. Not watching games but playing them. His joy of living on the pitch is legendary on France, but may be he has changed. Still, he adores his job. But I think he has made errors of communication in England, he has been too distant with the British press who hates him.

Elfie, the British press hate nearly everyone, so long as it helps them get a story. It doesn't matter if your're french, bald, small, or dodgy on the near post - they will still hound you.

Elfie, I am not saying that Fabien completely is devoid of passion in his game. He can be so focused, and at his best, he is quite unrivalled. But there is that something 'je ne sais quoi' that I think lacks in him to make him a real legend at United in the manner of Schmeichel...

Nope, daft to blame just one player. We let in 5 goals, they weren't all his fault. Even on that near post goal I thought Rio was half assed, he wasn't even running full pelt or trying to get a block in. They win as a team and lose as a team.

They hate him, because he never speaks to them. It is mentioned in an article about the French footballers of the PL. A journalist says clearly he doesn't like him.

Yeah and we'll win the next CL.

Bar Real, we're the best team in Europe.

He played Real at a moment when he wasn't 100% fit . He was uncertain the Monday...And against Real and Ronaldo...But the passion, he has it, I'm sure of that.
