Barcelona Sign Aleix Vidal

Haven't seen him myself either, but I hear it's a very Alves-esque signing; pacey winger-convert confident going forward. Probably, with Montoya waiting in reserve, Alves is now done at Barca.

Will he be loaned back to Sevilla until January?

I saw him a few times this season, he was very good going forward as a RB, probably as he is normally a winger. I was thinking during the final he would be a good signing for someone like Barca.

Good to see transfer bans are taken seriously and not easily undermined.

He certainly looks the part. Barca have got a good player although not sure how they can still sign players in advance if they've got a transfer ban.

Good to see people still reading headlines and undermining the details.

We have been banned from registering any new players. Still are. Don't see the fuss over this one.

No, he will stay in Barcelona.

So he just gets a 6 month paid holiday then?

Not bad. I remember having a couple of weeks free after leaving my old job before I had to start at my new one. It was a great time.

Because it completely undermines the point.

If you're going to have a punishment it should actually stop you from doing what it sets out to do.

It makes a mockery of the whole thing.

Surely it'd make sense for them just to loan him out until Christmas no?

What was it set out to do? We were given a ban on two transfer windows, did we breach anything? You can't stop clubs from negotiating or agreeing terms with other players but you can stop them being registered and from playing on the field.

You can't stop people from making agreements. You can stop them from playing on the pitch which is the case here. It's being implemented fine.

I think the point is that Barcelona can get around what should be intended as a punishment. As it stands, it's not much of a punishment at all.

They've done nothing wrong, yes. Still a bit of a joke tbh.

Nothing of the sort. Tell me, when is the ban till?

How are they getting around it? They will still have a massive hole at CM and at RB (if Alves leaves too) until winter. Missing half a season is probably a huge turn-off for potential signings and when they finally get their new players they only have a couple of serious games to settle in before the big CL matches start.

Exactly, I'm not accusing Barca of wrongdoing, I just think it's a joke that a club hit with a transfer ban for shady deals can still actually sign new players.

They should be prevented from signing new contracts other than extentions for existing players.

This wouldn't cause so much confusion/outrage if it was correctly called "registration ban" instead of "transfer ban" by the media. FIFA can obviously only regulate FIFA-affiliated confederations and its national football associations and prevent players from participating in them. Strictly they can't ban Barcelona from organizing inofficial friendly games that aren't under FIFA regulations though where they can use Messi's granny as a false 9 if they want to. See Catalan national team.

Would that even be possible under EU law?

The punishment does exactly what it supposed to do, though. It prevents Barcelona from using new players before the next transfer window.

First off, I am still unconvinced about the law (not that it matters). If your parent are from EU, movement is allowed to another country below age of 18, but if you are outside EU that same movement is termed as illegal. What sort of non-sense is this? Ødegaard and Cesc signing would have been illegal if they were from Japan or South Africa. Another non-sense in rules IMO.

EU laws supersede Fifa rules, it's simple

So what was Chelsea's ban a few years ago then?

Theirs was a proper ban, not this nonsense.

A law which is not equal for *all* is farcical.

The UE can't make everyone free of movement, the reason why a young European can move without problem is because of the freedom of circulation within the UE borders, and that's also why Vidal can sign with Barcelona because no one can prevent him from working for Barcelona.

What has Vidal signing got to do with Under 18 movement?
