Major issue coming out of Barcelona and Spanish media tonight after a terrible situation of possible transphobia or sexual assault from a major role model in the LGBTQ community, Spanish national team defender Mapi Leon.

Regardless of what she said (it seems pretty clear to be “tienes picha” - do you have a d*ck”), touching another player in an inappropriate way, which realistically is any way in which you don’t need to during a match, is more than enough to be an issue.

With Luis Rubiales currently on trial for a unwarranted kiss, could we see Mapi Leon facing a court of law in Spain as well for sexual assault?

Can Barcelona the most powerful entity in spanish football make this go away if they want?

Will the womens football world demand punishment against Leon the same way they chased Luis Rubiales?

Found this video of incident wher we can clearly see what she does.

The world gets weirder everyday. I would never have expected to read a headline about a gay female football player tapping the non-existant nuts of another female player.

Don't wanna be that person but when Vinnie Jones grabbed Paul Gascoigne's nuts (an iconic picture that is normally laughed at) is there much of a difference here?
Is it just different times/will things like this be more under the microscope in the women's game after what happened with Rubiales?

The time is different. If Rubiales deserved a 3 year ban from football, fired from his job and up to 1 year in prison, then they have to chase this case with the same vengeance! Especially if it was a transphobic comment then they could push for additional charges.

It does not mean I agree with it. But it would be double standards by spanish football and spanish society if Leon was not investigated with the same intensity!

Clear that there was needle between them and the touch and comment are unacceptable but also clear that the contact was incredibly minimal and it is nothing compared to the contact and comments that have gone on in the mens game for years. I posted in another thread about this and I do think it is more of an issue because transphobia is a big issue in womens sports where it is not in mens sports so there is greater sensitivity to the issue here. With that said, I still don't think the contact and even the comment are enough to justify some of the sanctions being discussed with regards to court cases and the impact to Mapi's career, certainly not when Chelsea can quite happily continue to trot out Enzo Fernandez as their Captain despite him being caught on camera saying and singing far worse slurs about the French team.

questioning if someone has a dick or not is clearly a big difference

but both are wrong

Barcelona and Mapi Leon claims nothing as such happened, the most cold blooded lie in womens football history?

These two incidents are really not the same other than both involving footballers though.

The power dynamic for a start is very different with Rubiales being an authority figure using that power over Hermosa to assault and embarrass her in as public a fashion as possible in front of a huge global audience. In the Rubiales case there is also no real mitigation for what he does, he chooses to approach a player and force himself on her for reasons known only to him.

In this incident the players are equals on the pitch. There is clearly a physical battle going on between them and a lot of unacceptable things including contact and verbal abuse occur in the heat of the moment on the pitch in every game. In this specific incident there may be context, we don't know what has happened leading up to this moment between the players both in this game and maybe in previous encounters, there may have been provocation on both sides.

None of this is to say that what happened is acceptable and Mapi will rightly be punished for this, it is however hyperbolic to suggest that this is in any way on a par with what Rubiales did or that she should face similar consequences.

Obvious transphobic comment, which should get an exemplary punishment by the RFEF

As for the sexual assualt, that depends on how Caracas feels about it

From what I understand from spanish courth Rubiales is being charged for the kiss itself as an action, not related to the position he has. From what I understand the punishment would be the same of a toilet cleaner had entered the pitch and kissed Hermoso in the same way. I´d rather be kissed than have me genitals fondled, but perhaps thats just me and not the law :-)

Is that really the case? Lets say say a player grabs a players breasts for everyone to see. And in case 1, the victim dont want to bother with and says I dont mind, its nothing. And in case 2 the victim wants to go all in and says its a huge problem.

Cant the spanish police pursue action from the video even if Barcelona for example donates 2 million EURO to the player to not co-operate with law-enforcement or any other entity that wants to punish Leon? Is it really a no-go if the victim dont want to take it further? To me that sounds pretty absurd!

Well that's certainly odd.

I didn't know who Mapi Leon was when I saw the thread title so I assumed it was one of their male players and thought it was odd when I opened the thread. Finding out it is in fact one of their female players makes it even more odd.

Its one of the spanish national teams best players on top of that - that refused to play under fired spanish coach Jorge Villa and was doing everything she could to get Luis Rubiales cancelled!

Facepalm.

Yes, because it's sexual assault and Hermoso pressed charges. This is sexual assault too imo, but if Caracas doesn't want to press it, then that's probably that as far as the penal system is concerned. She should get a truly spectacularly long ban over this though

No, the power imbalance is definitely playing its part in the Rubiales case. It's an aggravating factor

Facepalm.

In what way?

I clearly stated it is wrong and she should be punished but if you think the two incidents are identical then you have lost me. Right now there appears to be a rush to judgement on this without any knowledge of what has gone on between the players throughout the match. I expect this to be a severe punishment and rightly so but I also find the actions of Enzo Fernandez far more egregious and he effectively went unpunished.

I just can’t cope with the asterisk being where it is in the thread title. Put it in instead of the ‘i’. Have some humanity

If the player doesn't want to take it further, who would be the plaintiff?

Seems to me in the video that there's a bit of agro between the two players. Maybe words were exchanged during the game? We don't know what's been said. Some of the suggestions seem a little extreme until more is understood I would say.

Some Barcelona fans have posted the video suggesting it was a cute or erotic moment on the pitch!

Bit of a difference. Gazza and Vinnie were lad's lads, that was pure WUM behaviour from Gazza and I very, very much doubt Vinnie took any offence to it or thought it was sexual assault. Just one club clown trying to get one over on another club clown, and I mean clown in a positive sense with those two, they were the kind of guys every dressing room had from pub team to top level, the fellas that everyone laughed at yet respected.

Every class at school had one, every work place had one. I say had as those days are long gone. Someone like Dean Windass asking Tony Warner if he could feel the weight of his impressive man sausage in the dressing room wouldn't happen now, someone tertiary would take offence despite no offence being intended.

The Barca stuff definitely sounds far more sinister, especially given the person doing it is gay. Looking past the pathetic "I'm checking you're not a man" excuse, it could easily be viewed as a person that likes touching vaginas just touching vaginas and playing it off as something else - whereas Gazza wasn't doing it for sexual gratification, he just wanted to piss off Wimbledon's hard man that had been briefed to stick to him like glue all game. Just imagine a straight man doing it to all the female staff at a PL club and they'd never play football again.

I hope she faces consequences as rules should be the same for everyone. Rules and punishment shouldn't be just for men. A grab of the genitals accompanied by a transphobic and potentially racist remark is much worse than an unwarranted kiss.

I mean where else can you check when you absolutely need to make

I mean where else can you check when you absolutely need to make gender verification?
Explain the offside rule. You have two minutes, no Google.

Then tell us all what men talk about down the pub.

The former is fairly easy to explain yet takes a good pupil, but the latter is multi-layered and even when a woman does infiltrate, they'll make mistakes.

It's very subtle and the same reason men can't pretend to be women. Too many intricacies to handle.

Failing all that, do the Trump twiddle, you've gotta twiddle a teste or two.

Settle down newbie, that was just satire.
