OK, so Mozart was not a great hit.I now present the Master, Chuck Berry. He has been called the Father of Rock n Roll. There is no one person who “invented” rock, but he certainly was the architect that formed the foundation that all others built on. Band after band of the present era have credited their roots to him, including the Beatles, The Who, Eric Clapton, The Grateful Dead. He devised guitar licks that are the standard today including the Duck Walk, which involves hopping up and down on one leg whilst swinging the other leg. (If you try this at home, make sure the shades are drawn). He was a great guitarist and a witty lyricist. He was the first rock songwriter/performer, the first guitarist singer to reach the charts, His first hit was Maybelline. He was already 29 when that hit came out. Many connoisseurs feel Johnny B. Goode was his greatest cut, but my favourite is Roll Over Beethoven. He had a lot of humor in his songs. If you like this, and if you don’t you must be dead, go on YouTube and listen to his other songs, especially Run Run Rudolph which is a Christmas song! (All Chuck wants is an electric Guitar for Christmas, so he tells Rudolph, the head man, to hurry up and take the freeway to his house: it’s faster). So, ladies and gentlemen, I give you Johnny B. Goode. Now get off your chairs and dance around the house.
