Now, I don't wish be-moan the mods because I know how difficult it is to moderate this place. But, one question...

What's the point of banning people, especially serial ''pointless-posters'' such as Gillespie, and then letting them back in?

I assume because a sense of justice prevailed. My banning was unfair.I also had to put up with being ghosted as soon as I made a reappearance and it would appear for no other reason than the spitefulness of whomsoever was responsible.

Just because you disagree with some of the posts I make,it doesn't mean they are pointless.Anyway, let's bury the hatchet Blythy because you're usually pretty decent on here.

What constitutes a banning offence for a regular poster on here though Blythy?

It's easy enough to turf out the obvious WUMs and arseholes upon their arrival, usually while they are still celebrating being the first to ever call us Man Ure, or to ban those that go over the top with racism, threats or posting unsuitable stuff. It's a damned site harder with those who have a few hundred or even thousands of posts on here and although walking a fine line, do generally err on the cautious side. Gillespie, Jopub, DJS, Re_deus etc can all be irritating at times and revel in winding up the easily provoked on here, but they do all make reasonable contributions at times and are as much a part of the furniture as say Davo or Nate (even if you wouldn't consider them as friends or feel they lack the wit of our two resident scousers).

They do occasionally go to far and either wind up one Mod and get banned/ghosted or are so persistantly irritating that a consensus decision to ghost them or throw them in the newbie for a while will be sought. Hopefully these serve as warnings but as far up your nose as they may crawl at times, none of the usual suspects have actually done anything that warrants a permenant ban. Softy was the first to suffer this type of treatment regularly on here back when you were still a Mod Blythy and he would probably still be here if he didn't storm off in a strop whenever he felt a tug on the reins.

Why are some rival posters subjected to unwarranted ghostings/bannings, but not others?

I wouldnt mind if the same set of rules are used for everyone, but some people can take the piss, wind up or be abusive all day, every day and nothing will be done. Others are ghosted sometimes, because a mod is bored.

You get manc regulars who made the odd 'subtle' jibe about hillsborough or heysel and feck all is done, while a rival fan says something barely even serious and gets kicked or shoved into the newbie....

You know as well as i do that, banter aside, that's just shit.

rival fans joining this site have to prove they arent just here to stir hence partly why the newbie is in place. If a poster who normally doesnt put anything offensive goes beyond the boundries they will be given the benefit of the doubt based on their past postings agreed but personally I have set ideas about what Id personally ban someone for.Ive banned a rival fan but withdrawn it after pleas for his otherwise good character.

I think there will always be some inconsistency unless mods discuss every issue before acting on it.

I would hope that most of us would apply common sense, and I wouldn't ignore any comments about Hillsboro and Heysel, although I'm not denying some might have slipped through the net.

I believe most of us would act in some way about any such bad taste posts, but members should always report them anyway.

I aint fussed about not stepping over the line, my point is that the line is positioned differently, depending on the poster, which is out of order....

One poster will be ghosted or banned for a 'wind up', while more established posters are on the wind up daily, with nothing said or done.

Consistency is what's required.

I have dealt with a few United fans in the past by way of emailing them directly and asking them to tone it down. Whilst i agree to consistency, you also have to bare in mind that you are on a Manchester United forum.

If i went on a Leeds, Liverpool or Arsenal forum and admitted to being a United forum i would be hit with jibes about Munich..try and defend yourself on said sites and you get banned straight away. Its the same on all opposition fan sites im afraid.

Hear Hear Sir! I have travelled around the net monitoring the rival clubs` forums without actually joining and the level of unnecessary spite to sheer hatred regarding Man United fans is something that says it all about some `fans` of Liverpool, Arsenal, etc.

As for offensive comments about Heysel, Hillsborough etc - I am with the fans of Liverpool on this one. There are certain kinds of posts (I am not saying they have appeared on redcafe) that are completely unacceptable and should not be tolerated. However, I do believe the redcafe generally allows debate on these matters without approving any hate posts or genuinely offensive ones.

For example I have argued against Man United fans in the past who blamed Liverpool`s fans solely for Heysel but at the same time I don`t think those Man United fans` posts were the kind that should have been banned. They were debate-oriented posts even if I think they were biased.

I cant speak for all Liverpool sites, but i'm a mod on KT and can assure you that if you (or any United fan) registered there and was subjected to Munich jiibes, the perpetrator would be the one who would be banned, not the victim.

Wind your neck in miss high and mighty, there's examples of hatred towards other fans on every forum, not least here...

He ended up getting banned, cant remember exactly why.
Good riddance.

DJS yes and Re_deus can be funny (probably unintentionally though) but I seriously can't remember Gillian and Jopub ever making a reasonable contribution on here

I've been ghosted since the CL final.I've been here for 5 yrs without real incident, but thats the way it is I guess.

I think this place is well moderated...the mods here have a sense of humour at least

Im a mod on KT and you're all welcome...if anyone made any snide comments about Munich i woud ban them all myself

Don't get me wrong, the mods do a fantastic job. It is difficult to decide whether to ban someone or not, I know, I've been there (although, I don't remember having too much trouble deciding ;) ).

Just suggesting a ban should be a ban, despite the pleads and promises.

Well what sort of system do you have in place?

All mods have banning sticks they can use when they want?

There is a process on KT and YAWN whereby if a mod wants to have someone banned, then they must get 2 other mods approval. This is just to ensure any banning isnt personal rather than relating to the breaking of your 'acceptable use' policy

Just my $0.02

P.S. dont give Weaste a banning stick cos there would be about 5 members left

Any Mod can ban anybody at anytime.

Sometimes it is mentioned beforehand in the Mod Room but it doesn't have to be.

My bannings are v few and far between.

It has been mentioned I need to get my numbers up....so be careful. ;)

Well, if it gives someone their kicks for the day so be it :smirk:

Last time it was changed to 'you're not famous anymore' pretty soon after we had played Newcastle at SJ Park

Are you often influenced by songs of teams you go to watch but dont support?

No.

For DJS` information, the redcafe is head and shoulders above every other forum I have visited that claims to be for football fans, in particular websites dedicated to certain teams.

Sheer nastiness or downright sick postings are few on the redcafe and if and when they do appear generally the poster is warned and the post is removed. I can`t say the same for any number of other clubs` supporter forums, particularly the ones that constantly celebrate the Munich Air Disaster. :nono: :nono: Haven`t seen any on the redcafe celebrating Heysel or Hillsborough ...

The tolerance level of the redcafe is WAY above that of any number of Liverpool/Arsenal, ec, forums. You wouldn`t be here, simple as that, if such forums` policies were implemented on the redcafe. You would have been banned outright after your 3rd or so visit had you been a Manchester United fan on a Liverpool or Arsenal forum saying the kinds of things you`ve said on here for some time.

Appreciate your privileges - namely the fact that Manchester United fans have an intelligence and sense of perspective so sadly lacking among too many of our rival fans.

I think that is slightly unfair!

I used to be a member of KT and YAWN, and was always treated quite nicely. Stopped going there when I disappeared from the Internet for 6 months a while back. Don't even come here that often anymore.

I was also one of those that tried to get the reasonable scousers reinstated in here after the mass banning.

You're talking nonsense, as is often the case....

I myself have seen heysel and hillsborough comments made here by a long term poster and on more than one occasion. Yet the poster is still here. To use his own term, he probably doesnt give a 'fuch' about decency or stepping over the line.

As for other forums, again you're grossly misinformed.

As i've said, i'm a mod on KT so i know what IS an ISNT tolerated, so i'd appreciate it if you didnt allow your ignorance on the matter to give you the audacity to try to tell me what is accepted on other fans' forums and what isnt.

Basically, you're well off the mark (nothing new there) and making yourself look silly.

I'd be interested to know which forums you base your deluded views on...
