Ballack will play but it doesn't matter shit.

They´ve bottled it in Europe quite a few times, too.

Yep. Even the crocked Nowotny played.

I think so. He´s had an ankle injury for a while now tho, so I wouldn´t be surprised if he didn´t last 90 minutes.

The weekend (and the one before) was the perfect example for Leverkusen botteling it again.

Nine Weeks they were top of the league and played probably the best football. Everyone expected them to finally reach their aim of winning their fist League Title in history.
Then they lost to Bremen at home (last week) and this weekend they were defeated by relegation threated Nürnberg.
They lost top spot and Dortmund are now favorites to take the championship on the last matchday next weekend.

Yes it was at full strength.

So Jens, do you reckon we'll do it?

If we play like we did v Deportivo, yes.

Christ, performances like that don't come around every day...

I'm worried..

and if you play like you did vs Bayer?

;)

I'm surprised that they've bottled the league as they've looked top class on the few occasions I've seen them...

To be truthful the bundesliga is a bit of a joke. All the teams involved could have taken control at one point or another this season, but as last season, they all bottle it at crucial times and hand the advantage over to the other team. Usually what happens is they all bottle it and Bayern sneak in there on the last day (it could conceivably happen this weekend too). I think there's just something about the Bundesliga and bottling it. I really can't see them bottling it tonight - it is their last chance to do anything before there stars move on and they become just another top 10 team.

Is it Dortmund who are likely to win it now?

Christ, from the 2 games we've played vs them and Bayer this season, Bayer have looked a differnent class...

Me neither...

I think they'll go through...

Yep. If they manage to beat Bremen, they´ll be champions.

1 Dortmund 67 60-32
2 Leverkusen 66 75-37
3 Bayern 62-23

Dortmund v Bremen
Leverkusen v Hertha BSC
Bayern v Rostock

Yeah but Dortmund have turned it on in recent weeks and had a lot of luck with very very dodgy penalties (2 weeks ago one of their players pushed a team mate over and they were awarded a pen in the 89min - it won them the game), hence their current position. Leverkusen have started playing like shit in the Bundesliga in the last couple of weeks. Basically Dortmund need to beat Bremen who need to win to qualify for Europe. Leverkusen need to beat Hertha who I think also need to better Bremen to secure the Euro spot. They will probably both bottle it and Bayern, the feckin cnuts, will snatch it. God, I hope that doesn't happen.

Dan

Hertha have qualified for Europe already.

So who are Bremen battling it out with? Schalke? I thought Schalke and Hertha were level on points?

But what you're saying is that Hertha are playing for nothing then?

Advantage Leverkusen, just.

The table on soccernet has Bayern one point behind Bayer.

That sounds ropey...don't you just hate teams who get dodgy penalties?... ;)

I take it Bayern have 2 games left then?

Jens/Dans - rank the 3 teams in order of how you would judge them in terms of ability. From what I've seen Bayer have looked excellent, and very effective....whereas Dortmund looked organised but without punch..

Are their CL games a poor reflection of their relative abilities?

Yeah, they are. 62-23 is their goal difference, forgot to put their points total in.

They would all rank equally to my mind. Perhaps I'd put Leverkusen and Bayern above Dortmund despite the my opinion that Dortmund will win the league.

Yeah, they are on level points and battling it out for the fourth spot. But the Bundesliga doesn´t have 4 CL spots anymore so both have feck all to play for.

Yep. Bremen and Kaiserslautern are on level points and fighting it out for the last UEFA-Cup spot.

There's a five word story on Red News saying "Ballack is definitely out tonight"......dunno what the source is so let's not get our hopes up just yet! But you never know....

Last I heard was Toppmoller during their press conference last night and he said Ballack had a badly bruised foot and could hardly walk on Sunday.

Ours was a stone wall pen compared to the one Dortmund got. Believe me.

No, just the one.

Out of the 3 teams I think Dortmund have the best squad. If they get another good defender and one more classy midfielder I think they could make it to the CL QFs next season. Amoroso, Koller and Ewerthon are 3 top class strikers, but Rosicky is the guy that makes them click. Reuter and Kohler are both in their mid 30s and they have to be replaced IMO.

1 Borussia Dortmund
2 Bayer 04 Leverkusen
3 FC Bayern München

well how many times has fergie used these kind of minds games saying a player is struggling only for him to be perfectly fine at kick off. Ballack probably has a bruised foot but it won't stop him from playing. Toppmoller is just talking it up to mess with our heads

On talksport news about an hour ago they said

'Bayer Leverkuesen have confirmed that Ballack will miss tonights game with Manchester United due to his foot injury sustained at the weekend'

I presume this came from later than last nights press conference????

Chin up JSV, a bit of positive thinking here please. We can all get fed up later if we go out. I'm expecting your namesake to play a blinder tonight and score at least once!

I'm trying to be realistic Weaste, and I don't think Bayer will throw it away...

I hope i'm wrong...

I'm seriously JSV, but we do have the quality to win it.

If we seriously turn it on, I cant seeing them standing a chance. United at 100% in full flow should whip their arse. Will we be at 100% though? That's the problem!

We've also got a 36 year duck to settle here!

Bayer can't afford any other strategy than to prevent us from scoring two goals. If we can score two then it will put alot of pressure on them, and we'll likely end up with a third. Ala Juve 99.

I can't find confirmation of this anywhere. Despite starting the thread myself and amending the title of it, at the end of the day it doesn't matter a flying feck whether Ballack plays or not. We have to beat the best to be the best. If Ballack plays so be it.

That sounds a bit simple..

Why can't they afford to outscore you or keep the ball off you?

Oh feck it!

I'm going straight down the pub after work, get a good seat and start downing pints..

I'm gonna get feckin hammered tonight, whatever happens in krautland!

Hmmm, I reckon they've got to just go for it against you, I'm not sure they are capable of just sitting back and trying to hold out. Should mean that it's an excellent game for a neutral, if indeed there are any.... ;)

Because it would be tactically simpler to play for 1-0, 2-0, 2-1 etc - than it would for them to play for say.... 4-2 ;) The attack only option will leave them vulnerable at the back, which is all we need.

Me too! I'm going to end up sozzled to exactly the same extent - win or lose (hey it is a bank holiday tomorrow). Difference being the state of my happiness! I hope that I'm in an elated state!

CMON United, United, United.......

I don't think anyone ever plays tactically for a 4-2?

They need to do is play keep ball like they did against you last week...

And try to drag your defenders out of position as they're so capable of doing..

Not sit back and defend
