Axel Tuanzebe

Did Goss play that game? One of the tabloids was claiming that Goss and Varela might be given a chance. Though, I think they are guessing Varela based on our defensive injuries at LB

Both played. To be honest everyone who you might have wanted to see feature today played except Pereira. Oh, and McNair, if you're that way inclined.

Frustrating.

Both Goss and Varela played 90 min.The only one out of the U21s regulars that didn't start is Ashley Fletcher (and Matt Willock but he's injured).

He hasnt even turned 18 yet. Havent seen him. Mature for his age? Is he the defender you'd expect to get the call up from the reserves?

One defensive injury and he's on.

Edit: Plus, if we so happen to be in a position that we're 3-0/4-0 up in the 75th minute - I can see Van Gaal bringing him on.
Carrick, Young, even Fellaini would be put in the defence ahead of him.

I do like your edit scenario though.

TUANZEBE CLOSER TO REALISING HIS DREAM
Axel Tuanzebe is getting closer to realising his Manchester United dream as the 17-year-old has been named on the bench for Saturday's trip to Crystal Palace.

Last season's Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year has been working with Warren Joyce's Under-21 squad but has been promoted to the senior squad for the first time.

In an exclusive interview with MUTV recently, the centre-back outlined his ambitions and aspirations as he strives to make his mark at Old Trafford.

"It’s been good," he said of the start to the season. "I’ve come back from injury and got back into my game. I’m really enjoying it. The Under-21s is a better level with better players and it’s really like men’s football and is another stepping stone to the first team. Obviously, I won Player of the Year last season but finished off with an injury so I’m just trying to get my way back into the team and impress the manager really."

Tuanzebe impressed everybody with the way he handled the occasion at the annual awards ceremony last summer but stresses the achievement is in the past now.

"My family were so proud of me, as were my friends and family and I was getting messages from all over the world saying ‘well done’," he said. "I was happy to win the award but it’s all about getting back into it and forgetting it, driving forward and being a regular player now.

"Once something happens, it’s finished and onto the next one. You take it in your stride. Criticism is as good as praise really as it allows you to work on something you’re not as good at. There’s nothing wrong with criticism, you just take everything in your stride."

The defender was named captain of the Under-18s last season despite being a first-year scholar and was able to show authority in terms of dealing with older players.

"At first, I was a bit nervous being captain of older players but, as we got into the season, we all grew in respect and we have a good bond with each other," he said. "We’ve played together since we were young so I knew everyone I was with and it wasn’t really a major problem. As the season continued, we just grew together as a team. I respected them and they respected me. It developed me as a person and now I feel more of a leader. I believe, one day, I can be a leader for this club. It would be my dream."

Great for the lad. Hope he can be part of the 10 at some point.

I rate all 3 of him, RoShaun Williams and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

But Tuanzebe is strong, quick, reads the game well, U18 captain and won YPOTY last year so he's definitely a great talent.

Thanks.
Wonder if he will get some minutes this season. LVG has shown he doesnt mind playing kids at the back.

Hope he get's on today and plays well, could be this season's McNair.

Didn't make pre-season squad but he was on contention if not for the injury so he was already on the coaching staff's mind for sometimes.

Nice to see him get into the match day squad, I've a lot about him but never actually seen him play.

Just finished watching the game as I had an exam today and didn't know the bench. While Young was coming on I saw Tuanzebe on the bench and was pleasantly shocked. Wasn't expecting to see him in a matchday squad for a while yet but I guess it was forced with injuries. Great to see him being recognized from the staff though. Tuanzebe, RoShaun and CBJ all show some great quality, we're definitely well stocked in that department in regards to youth coming through.

Out of everything, this has pleased me the most with LVG. He would rather put a youngster in case of injuries than play more experienced players out of position. Something Fetgie kept doing in the latter years.

That was the only thing that drove me mad about Ferguson. I used to rant for hours about the RB position.

Is he better than Fosu Mensah? I havent been watching much underage football lately? Just curious as to why he's being picked over fosu mensah?

Fosu Mensah has been played mostly in midfield and the coaches have made comments about a lack of reliability when played at the back. Admittedly the junior teams have a lot of centre backs.

Is his dad a Guns and Roses fan, by chance? Nice to see a Mancunian raised youth kid in the first team. Rightly or wrongly, the fans will be more patient with him, like they were with Welbeck.

Only if he does well. We're more fickle than most IMO. So many were quick to turn on Welbeck when he wasn't scoring or missed chances. Christ! I recall so many posts saying how crap he was, and he was a cnut etc before he even became a regular.

I hope we do give him time, he looks a superb prospect from what I've witnessed

Yeah welbeck really prove all those posters wrong, fools to turn on him.

It's easier for fans to suggest we go out and buy this and that from Europe when we have exciting talent coming through. It's great to see LVG giving young players the opportunity.

I'm not convinced SAF would have played so many so early on or give Jess Lingard a little run the way LVG has

Ferguson trusted him in biggest matches, thats a sign of a shit player.....Ferguson was a fool and fans were right.

Ferguson also played giggs in a bigger match, doesnt mean he wasnt shit then.

Yeah bringing youngsters through is probably the best bit about supporting a team, you dont get that kind of excitement with big money signings but the player has to be off a sufficient quality. Everyone was encouraging about welbeck till he proved(after a couple of seasons) that he cant finish at all.

True... But he was a STRIKER. He was meant to score goals. As well as he could mark certain players with his speed and physicality, he was a liability up front. At this club we shouldn't just give up a striker's position in the squad just because he's a Mancunian lad with potential that had time and again not proven his worth.

He had his shot and he failed. He's not done anything at Arsenal to suggest he'd have become something more than we thought him to be. Fergie can get it wrong too you know.

dont really want to debate about Welbeck but he wasnt a striker, majority of the time he played on the wing for us and he did a good job

Just did a quick google, and his best for united has been 9 goals and four assists in a season. Despite playing upfront with rooney for the majority of it, thats a horrible return for a winger and a striker. Not a good job.

On the subject of Welbeck, why didn't we play him as a winger, he had all the abilities to become a very good one. He is very good outside the box, just his finishing lets him down a bit.

Having looked at that link again, the 9 goals is for the epl. Has 2 and 1 in the ucl in those seasons, dunno about fa and league cup so espn numbers are probably correct.

Yeah he scored 12 goals and had 7 assists in 2011/12 and 10 goals and 6 assists in 2013/14
