Alex Stepney stops Brian Kidd, then of City, at Maine Road.
He was certainly an underrated and incredibly consistent keeper. England had no shortage of good keepers back then, but yes I agree he’d have at least been given a proper go if United hadn’t been shit at the time Banks lost an eye.I was going with a girl back then whose dad was a long-time City fan. He used to say that if Stepney had a decent defence in front of him, he'd be England's number one.
It broke my heart that Kidd became such a prolific scorer after he left United.

My favourite Utd goal ever. Not a high quality photo but one of my favourite moments. Whitesides 110th minute winner in the FA Cup against Everton. I still remember Reid flying in the air when Moran was red carded.

A year after the World Cup final.
May 6th, 1967. Upton Park. The two Bobbies shake hands before United's 6-1 demolition of West Ham that clinched the title.
Bang average United pics
Third best. After the booze and humiliating defenders
Georgie doing what he did best (second best?)
An acrobatic Denis Law goal at Selhurst Park
That’s not Selhurst Park…
I loved that kit. Everyone else hated it
Brian Greenhoff circa 1973.
