So, does anyone on here follow the AFL besides myself?

Looks like it is just us two then, which is a shame, I don't see how foreigners won't love it.

Hopefully Mike Pyke becoming a gun will raise awareness in Canada, and Majak Daw will get more emigrated Africans involved.

As for the Crows: Sydney pulled your pants down, but I think you will beat Richmond this weekend, you have too many good players not to be in the top 8 come seasons' end. And on a side note: Patrick Dangerfield = Gareth Bale.

Majak's the man!

Can anyone even beat Collingwood? They just destroy every team in their path. It gets interesting for like 2-3 minutes then when they kick a goal it's just how many hundred pts they'll score.

Majak has the greatest rig of all-time, the man was chiselled from stone. And for someone that size to be able to leap as high, and run as fast as he does, is incredible.

As for Collingwood - I think you're stuck in 2010 mate, they are currently 6th place (7 wins, 4 losses) and have been soundly beaten by 3 of the 4 real contenders (Hawthorn, Sydney and Fremantle) so far this season. Having said that they did beat the other contender in Geelong, and they have been blooding a fair few youngsters so this will be a momentary dip. Still, I suspect they will be fighting it out for 5-7th place come the end of the season as Sydney, Geelong, Hawthorn and Fremantle look like certainties for the top 4 so far.

You're right mate, I haven't been following Oz footy for a while now, especially this season. Once a while I read up on footy news like Majak Daw's debut and stuff, or look up the tables when I place a bet. To me Ozzie footy has the potential to be a world game but they are content to keep it in their own backyard and not promote it. Pretty much like the American football where hardly anyone else out of their country plays it but it's bloody big in their own backyard. Still Oz footy is 100x way better than American football!

I'm a Hawks supporter, feeling very confident about this year. At the moment the Cats and us are comfortably above everyone else, although I got burned last year so I shouldn't get too ahead of myself.

They're trying to get it into new markets but it's going to be damn near impossible. It's just too difficult to implement a new game in already oversaturated markets, especially considering the space AFL needs. How many countries have really adopted new games in the last few decades?

They have been pushing the sport in south africa for a while now, got a bit of traction, but nothing serious. Also got the push with Ireland and the international rules. So I'd say they are trying to push it to expand beyond our borders, but it just isn't working or taking. The massive pitch wouldn't help as most country's either don't have the space, or have plenty of much smaller pitches for other sports already in place. TBH I can't really see the sport expanding seriously overseas, at least not for quite a few years.

I really enjoy watching Aussie Rules. It usually gets show on Irish TV a bit but I only ever catch the highlights of a few games. Brilliant game to watch though.

How ridiculous is the AFL's response to Watson admitting taking a banned substance? Who gives a feck if fathead Demetriou is on leave, someone else fecking say something.

Meanwhile, I read somewhere someone in the WAFL was hit hard for something similar. 2 year ban. Maddening inconsistency.

Also, fair play to power winning over the Pies today.

Crows too good up at Gold Coast. Prestia with a 42-touch game!

I had to laugh after their last game they were all saying how it was a shame he was getting booed by the crowd.

Rofl Carlton got smashed by Collingwood. Btw can someone explain to me how St Kilda have become so shite? I've haven't really been following AFL for a while....

Less likely to turn out events such as the Mcguire/Goodes/King Kong fiasco a while ago, perhaps?

What the hell is that? I can understand Aboriginal relations are important for the game and all that being that it has an iconic following in the aboriginal community. "Multicultural" to me seems a bit of an offensive term. (Not trying to blow up, or blow it up, just trying to understand).

In Football (real football) I can totally understand why the A-League do it. The world game and all that..

Adam Goodes was called an ape by a young teenage girl during a match. There's a great photo of him pointing to her in the crowd. The girl was a Collingwood supporter, and after the game Eddie McGuire (Collingwood President) came down to the Sydney rooms and personally apologized.

Roll on two days and McGuire made a stupid joke about getting Goodes to advertise King Kong the play on his morning radio program. He said it under his breath, but by christ it was a stupid thing to do.

And it's a brilliant sport. It seems pansies don't like it... Are you a pansy Ghali? Heehee

So what are people's predictions.

I reckon the top four in order will be Hawthorn, Geelong, Fremantle, Sydney. Hawks Cats in the Grand Final. Ablett for the Brownlow and Roughie for the Coleman.

Will  if Essendon are chucked out of the finals on the back of this ASADA business and we scrape in from 9th. It'd be totaly undeserved, but every Port fans' head would explode :p

I want to like it but I find it a massive bore. I went to a live swans game and by the second half I was posting on the Caf mainly.

I like team sports where there is a balance of athleticism and tactics and AFL seems to be 80% athleticism. The main tactic seems to be kick it to the bloke in space who then can't be tackled and off we go again. And I hate the nearly posts.

AFL Finals starting today. First game Hawks vs Swans

Hawthorn vs Sydney
Geelong vs Fremantle
Collingwood vs Port Adelaide
Richmond vs Carlton

Always seemed a bit of a prick. So good.

Cracking win for the Hawks tonight. I've said it all season, the Swans aren't good enough. That's 0-5 against Hawthorn and Geelong.

No sign of Marty Clare or Tommy Walshe tonight for the Swans or have I got the wrong club?

Tommy Walsh plays for the Swans but doesn't get a game. Not sure about Marty Clare.

Sorry marty clarke actually he could be with Collingwood. Shame about walsh. He is a very good gaelic footballer.

I'm not clued up on the ins and outs of Gaelic Football works but I think like anything changing codes once you're a developed athlete is extremely difficult. You just have to look at the Israel Folau/Karmichael Hunt debacle.

Absolutely spectacular win tonight for the Hawks, I haven't been that jittery since the 90s. The Kennett Curse has turned into the Kennett Prophecy; we win when it matters. Bring on next week.

Hawks!!!! Great win, what a relief.

As for Freo, bunch of dirty anti-football cretins. The real Grand Final was last week. Feel for SuperPav though.

Another Gooner/Hawk???? Quality choice mate.

I was at the game (and the final vs Geelong)... Great times. The game itself was rather dour but what do you expect when Freo/a Ross Lyon coached side is involved.

As for the Geelong game - wow. That was ridiculously intense... And what a barnstorming finish to the game for the Hawks, they simply were not going to lose that game no matter the cost.

On a side note what an inspired pick up Brian Lake was!

Great win for the Hawks! They might lose a couple players to rival clubs next season though

Buddy has gone... Good luck to him I guess, but the side just won't seem the same without him.

Guerra and Bailey retiring on top too!

Buddy was a bit of a mess this year, we often looked better without him. I know Sydney have a good philosophy but I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up doing a Fevola and losing the plot.

Going to miss Guerra, he had the best rug I've ever seen! Be interesting to see who we pick up, we've got a bit of room in the salary cap now.
