England off to a decent start. 0/18 off 4.

McGrath worrying Vaughn outside his off stump.

7-0 in a few hours hopefully. :D

Bell dropped first ball. Gilchrist went for it, should have been Haydens.

1/25 off 6.5.

I think ******gwood thinks its a five day game???

He's doing his thing i suppose, he's reliabole, one of our form players on this tour, and if his wicket does fall the opposition will know more often than not that they had to work to get it. Traits that we should avhe been glad to see in some of our other players. He has a grit that is rare in the squad at the minute, and his fielding might save us yet.

Up to Pieterson to keep the score ticking over at a more than decent rate.

Isn't there that rule that you take the total a side has at 30 overs and double it? That puts us with a defendable target if true for us this time.

168/4

For all that i said, we've jut witnessed ******gwood have one of those "moments", that we've seen him have in the past when nearing some milestone in his innings.

He nearly a hit a four a minute earlier but it fell just short and was prevented by some Aussie fielding, he tried it again and matters weren't so forgiving.

206/4

Call it five overs remaining.

Make that 206/5, since as i'm typing this Pieterson went for a six but it didn't carry and after he had hit, he knew it woudln't as he was already walking, he departs on 82, credit to him for that.

We are collapsing just a shade here, and the fault not all our own. Umpire Howell gave Nixon out for a duck, and Dalrymple followed him not long after that contributing just two runs.

The issue about the two of them was the rather quiet timid like appeal from the Aussies, particularly with Dalrymple. Though it coudl be argued Nixon was out [LBW, haven't seen nor heard how hawkeye viewed it], that wasn't the case with the other apparently. A shame for us.

EDIT: As of 06:46, 230/7, one over left.

The 50 are up, England have achieved 242/8.

Another good knock from Freddie, coming into form a bit late for the Ashes but still.

Only immediate problem is Pieterson, he took one in the ribs and they say is unlikely come out and field at least, we'll know soon enough.

It's...defendable, we're in with a chance.

It's defendable, but I'd back us in top form to chase it down without too much trouble. We have been vulnerable to a collaspe in seasons gone by but all our batsmen are in good form so I reckon we'll do it.

Yes, that is what is expected, but if the unexpected happens, 242 might give us something to play with. We should know after not too long how it will go.

11 off the over, and what 9 of them didn't come off the bat? Piss poor Flintoff

EDIT: The over took so long I forgot what happened, none of the 11 runs came off the bat!

None of the came off the bat.

Gilchrist is still on 0.

The ultimate insult would be if one or more of that 11 mean that you win the match. Which if that fates are cruel, will probably happen. Then again, at this rate, maybe they'll beat us nearly entirely with extras. :(

Two more wides by the way.

Whats that 2 more wides from Lewis? fecking hell the batsmen might as well go and have a cuppa, the wide run rate is more than enough currently for them to knock off our score.

Would be insulting but it won't happen. Australia will win this before 40 overs are bowled.

Just had a look at the stats from the Aussie's innings, they bowled a total of 3 wides in 50 overs. We've achieved four times that number in only three.

We very nearly double it inside 2 balls

I find this much less depressing than the Ashes though. I don't rate one day cricket as highly as multiple innings games, even though I do like attending them at Lancs. Nice to spend a day at the cricket and have a result at the end. But also, we come into it with our eyes open - we know we're shite and entirely reliant on Pieterson for any kind of competitive score. The Ashes I foolishly thought we could at least be competitive.

p.s Jimmys hair is ridiculous today. He's twated for 4 as I type, so the bowling not much better...

Well Freddie can aim the ball at the stumps when he's fielding at least.

Oh it is all so very disappointing.

Who is that umpire? I don't recognise him, he gave Darymple out after the ball hit him on the top of the head, and now he's just called for the TV umpire to look at a run out, when Gilchrist had made it back and had time to perform a quick rendition of Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie...

According to the BBC, somebody by the name of Howell.

He's shit!

This is the other problem of one day games. We're only really shortly past halfway through, but already the game is over. I say a Lancs one day game where they batted first, and lost 6 wickets ish in about 20 minutes, that was not entertaining! I think it was all over well inside 2 hours.

91/0, our fielders have been give a tour of the city these last few overs with the way Gilchrist has been hitting it.

See that bloke in the crowd catch the Gilchrist 6 one handed, with his mobile phone to his ear in the other? Amazing, get him on as a substitute fielder!

Radio commentary again for me, sounds qutie something though, i'll look out for it in the highlights later. And yeah, maybe he could do some coaching.

Can Dalrymple bat? Why is he in the team if you have Panesar? Doesn't Vaughan bowl off spin?

Dalrymple showed some promise with bat and ball last summer against Pakistan.

Good wicket from Panesar then by the way, spin seems to be the one thing working for England.
