This Shaun tait then, another chucker from what I hear.

And I'm glad to see Sehwag back in the team but not sure where he fits in the team plans if at all.

For those saying that Dravid should open, while I agree he's probably the only player who can (having come in at number 3 for India should give you lots of practice with the new ball) if Karthik is dropped, I don't like this tinkering with the opening slots business. We'll never find a decent pair of openers this way.

Phil Jaques
Mitchell Johnson
Who are these two?

2nd Test: Australia v India at Sydney - Jan 2-6, 2008 (10:30 local, 23:30 GMT)

3rd Test: Australia v India at Perth - Jan 16-20, 2008 (11:30 local, 02:30 GMT)

With no Mcgrath in the side if the Indian batters can handle Lee we have a chance but with our shite bowling it would take a minor miracle to get 20 wickets on an Aussie wicket.

It's Victoria v India tomorrow.
.
Jaques is a decent bat.Mitchell Johnson likes to get Indian batsmen out for fun

Phil Jaques will open for us with matty hayden. Quality player - likes to play his shots. Johnson is also very good - economical, takes wickets. I am a huge fan of him being from QLD. Tait is a bit erratic although he is quicker than Lee and causes problems for batsmen (not a chucker:boring:). Mcgrath is irreplacable but with lee, clark, johnson and tait i do not think we will miss him.

Hopefully will be getting myself to the gabba matches over the summer.

Looks suspect, but NO :)

I dont think he will play. Him or hogg maybe, not sure. Macgill must be injured.

He is consistently up and around 150km/h. He is also only 24 I think - he has a bright future

Cant wait for the tests to start. I hope we stuff ya's :)

So india has 16 players to australia's 12?

Thats because, thats our touring party and we can't change it during the tests unless a player gets injured. However, as the aussies are at home they can change the team as much as they want between tests.

I see. A draw or a win would obviously be fantastic but if we lose I would prefer a 3-0 loss. Only so we wouldn't have to suffer all those Indian who would consider a narrow loss an achievement. feck that shit. A loss is a loss whether its 1-0 or 3-0.

So Tait's a chucker then, eh?

We've played him in the Champions Trophy too iirc...

He's got raw pace, sprays the ball around a bit...pace scares our batsmen though.Hopefully VVS and Dravid will see to him.

I don't like being pessimistic. But we're going to get hammered in this series.

I had similar thoughts about the 03-04 series...Pathan and Balaji proved me wrong then.Let's see how it goes this time.

He isn't a chucker. It was a ploy from our cricket team to disrupt the Aussies and it backfired because they thrashed us and won the Chappell Hadlee series for the first time. If you watch him bowl it is basically impossible for him to be a chucker as he slings the ball and has a very straight arm in his action.

I personally think the Indians are going to get thrashed. The Aussies are going to have a field day with your bowlers and I think your batsman will come unstuck against the pace of the Australian bowlers.

I think Zaheer, RP and Pathan won't be all that bad. It could have been much worse. I just hope Pathan puts some zip in his fecking bowling.

And break the 120 barrier? Seriously it's a real shame whats happened to him, he concentrated too much on his batting so he could be considered an allrounder, it seemed he lost a lot of pace in his bowling in the process

Whether we get thrashed or not, for me, the anticipation of how our younger players perform on lively wickets makes this series a treat to watch. A good innings on pacy turfs like Perth, or even a rewarding spell of fast bowling for hitting the deck, is terrific for their confidence.

feck knows when we'll try to mix things up at our place to at least allow players to prepare better for this tour because one warm-up game certainly doesn't seem enough.

So Dravid opened in the tour game and had a really slow and steady innings from what I gather. Ganguly scored 59. Zaheer didn't play. Hope he's fit in time for the first test. Really don't want to see Ishant Sharma bowling in Australia.

Victoria v Indians, Tour game, Junction Oval, 1st day

Dravid confident he can open in Tests

Brydon Coverdale at the Junction Oval

December 20, 2007

Rahul Dravid has declared himself ready to open in the Boxing Day Test against Australia and he believes India's promising middle-order prospects can no longer be ignored. While Dravid would not confirm if the plan was set in stone, India gave a strong indication of their strategy by sending him in with Wasim Jaffer to begin their rain-affected tour match against Victoria.

Dravid survived the 158 minutes of play that were possible, reaching 33 not out, and a move to the top of the order in the Test might open the door for Yuvraj Singh to retain his place after he made 169 in the final Test against Pakistan earlier this month. Sachin Tendulkar did not play in that match and will need to slot back in, leaving the selectors to ponder the make-up of their batting order.

"We've had a very strong middle order over these years, a lot of the same people have played in the middle order a lot," Dravid said. "We've got a lot of good young middle-order batsmen coming in who can't really be ignored."

Three of his top-order colleagues fell around him and the Junction Oval but Dravid was typically careful, happy just to spend some time at the crease after his disappointing Test series against England and Pakistan. In the three Pakistan Tests he felt he didn't have "the rub of the green", and scored 38, 34, 50, 8 not out, 19 and 42.

"It's been a strange series in the sense I got a few starts, maybe played a couple of average shots as well," Dravid said. "I've spent a bit of time in the middle so I feel like I'm playing well, I'm moving my feet and batting well."

But he will have to take that confidence into the unfamiliar role of opener in the first Test, and if Melbourne's thundery weather continues as expected on Friday and Saturday his preparation might be very limited. Dravid has opened 13 times in Tests, averaging 33.54, and he has not filled the role since February 2006.

"I've batted all my career in different positions," he said. "Batting at three you probably come in early a few times as well, but it is a little different. It's a little bit with the mindset, you're used to batting in a particular position.

"Right from the time I was in school I played in the middle order so you get used to something like that. But as a professional cricketer and as a professional sportsman you're adaptability is important. The critical thing for me is the changeover - you have just ten minutes [between innings]."

India's impressive results last time they toured Australia - the 2003-04 series was drawn 1-1 - came largely through strong batting and Dravid conceded he would be under pressure to maintain that standard if he opens in the Tests. "As we showed last time if we can get through the early part with the new ball without the loss of too many wickets, we've got the kind of batting and people who can make it count later on," he said.

The three-day warm-up match in Melbourne was reduced to only the post-lunch session as heavy rain bookended the day's play. A torrential downpour came right on tea and the Junction Oval was almost completely under water, but within an hour and a half the rain had stopped and the grass was again visible.

Dravid said it would be disappointing if India's only practice match was washed out ahead of the first Test in what he called the most challenging tour of all. Last time they visited Australia India had good weather for their two tour matches before the series began, and Dravid said that preparation was ideal.

"We would definitely have liked more than one warm-up game," he said. "[But] international cricket is cramped nowadays. We'll just have to do the best with what we've got."

Clark is basically McGrath without as much mental strength.

When he starts getting battered around, it'll usually stay that way till you take him off.

Clark is pretty shit from what i've seen. His accuracy is what he's got going for him. When he starts to spray it around, he looks average.

Clark is better than anything we've got. Zaheer who is our top bowler is easily smacked around when he's not accurate.

Just when I say this, I'm sure Clark will take a fiver or something in the first Test.

Zaheer's better than Clark.

If it comes true 1/2 a billion Indians will have their cocks out so you can take as much credit as you want.

I have got a feeling about the series as well...

Think our batting is going to see us through
