Aussies vss World XI

No, quite unlike the Ashes, in that the Aussies won comprehensively, but somewhat like it in that it's only the first match.

It was quite clear that the World XI are just here for a holiday.

Your so right, their was no aggression or feeling in the game, I was watching the expressions of those in the World XI when they were out, not a care in the World.

At least it looked that way on the telly.

Agree on that.

In the 80's the exhibition matches played between MCC XI, Rest of the World etc, got the best out of individuals.

The Aussies, on the other hand, were definitely up for it. Playing for pride and all that...

Do they realise its only the pyjama rubbish?

Why 6 days?

Either there is going to be a lack of intensity (as per todays game) so 6 days of pointless cricket, or the RotW side will be intense and knock over Aus and the test will be over in 4 days.

Think the 1st option is more likely tbh. If you were flintoff you wouldnt want to risk missing the pakistan/india tour for england by pushing yourself too hard

If there's no intensity it won't last 6 days and it won't be 6 days of pointless cricket.

If the World XI are up for it it'll be over before then.

If, against all odds, we get an engrossing cricket match, we have the safety net of a sixth day to ensure there's a winner.

I reckon it's a decent idea.

I would say 4 days with stipulation in overs would be apt.

Matches starting on Thursdays and ending on Sundays. Great way to spend a weekend

Lara got out for a Duck.
Some say hes better than Sachin.

World 11 batted horribaly, bowled pretty well, especially the spinners. No clue why Inzamam hasnt been chosen, he should be walking into this team. How hes behind the likes of Sehwag(who has a fabulous test record but average ODI record) and Peterson, i have no idea.

Im scared...

But it was pathetic, although they will improve as time passes. I noticed loads of seats empty, quite ridiculous after all the hype over this series.

The seats are empty because the matches are ridiculously overpriced and being shown live on tv against the gate. It was also a working day.

No way I'm going to these.

I bet you've shat yourself

But someone mentioned the 6 day game, IMO its probabily because the batting line ups of both sides, and in particular that of the Rest of the World, are expected to be strong.. And the organisers want to make sure there is a result.

About 18,000 people with a capacity of 50/60k

Next game will be fuller

I noted that Freddie had quite a good game with the bat, though not with the ball.

To be fair to everyone, ROTW XIs are a silly idea.

'Our pride was dented' - Pollock

After losing a match which showed that great players don't necessarily make a great team, Shaun Pollock, the captain of the World XI side that embarrassed itself with a batting performance worthy of minnows, said his team will have to play for pride to get back in to the three-match series.

"It was disappointing," Pollock said of the batting performance. "We discussed about taking responsibilities and roles but we didn't get it right. The guys are hurting, there is no doubt about that. We are going to have to play like one hell of a team to come from 1-0 down. The guys have a lot of pride and it is dented tonight so I expect the guys to be really motivated for Friday."

As the World XI restricted Australia to 255 for 8, Pollock was confident of a successful chase with his high-profile line-up. "We spoke at the break about partnerships and someone to bat through but there were quite a few soft dismissals and we didn't get going. Sometimes it's not that the fact you lose, but it's the manner in the way you lose and that we were seven or eight down for very little was disappointing."

Pollock refused to blame the team's limited preparation for the loss and said the team was here to win. "We're not doing it for the crowd or for show. We have to do it for ourselves. We enjoy each other's company and we want to play well and win. I don't think you've got to panic, they are good players and you've got to give them an opportunity to fight back.

"I don't want the guys to get down. It's no time for them to be hanging their heads and sulking. I think you'll see them lift quickly."

Ricky Ponting, however, was understandably delighted with the victory. "I've said all along that I still think we're the best cricket team in the world," he said. Criticised relentlessly since their return from the Ashes tour, Ponting's side were pleased to return to playing competitive cricket and to put the Ashes defeat behind them. "It's great to get out there and express ourselves the way we have. We've been looking forward to this for a while to play the brand of cricket we know we can play, so it's very satisfying."

He added: "We have worked very hard for the last few days and all the players were up for it. We always knew 250 would be a hard total to chase and, although we did drop a few chances, in the end it was a great allround effort."

If this same match is held in Lords or the SCG, the ROW XI would've put up a better fight. The atmosphere at the Telstra Dome is too plastic for a cricket match

Lara IS better than Sachin. Only thing this proved was that Lara's a shrewd bugger. . . got a free holiday and a decent pay packet for doing nowt.

Clever man.

I think World XI bowlers were saving themselves. . . no point fecking yourself over in a nothing series. Spinners did well though.

Tendulkar beat him to that as well...

He gets an abnormal pay.And he's been on holiday for the past 2 years.

No Slabber wont bother him. Like Sol, he was caught kneeling down with his trousers around his ankles

Once again, I politely remind you to go feck yourself.

Peterson, i have no idea.

Before yesterday Petiersen averaged over 50 against Aus in ODIs and over 80 in Odis in general... And he's not as fat as Inzi.

Anyay this Super Series is crap... I didn't watch much of it but "holiday camp" is pretty appropriate.

I was listening to Jack Banister on the radio after the Aussies had scored 255 and he said that will never be enough with the rich batting line up the Word XI have, how wrong he was, knob-head!

Inzi is one of the best batsman on the world stage in the last 10 years or so, he should be walking into that team.

Dravid let us down
And Lara, Petierson, Flintoff, Sehwag...

Well the second match of this enthralling series has started and ROW have finally broken through as Murali removes Katich with a doosra. Australia are 1/110 from 20 overs.

World XI really going for it now, come on!
crap! gayle's out - great knock that.
Kallis is in, hope it doesn't take him 4 overs to get of the mark =)

a bit off a collapse for the world XI!

the aussies were always going to win most likey........its a team on the home patch vs a bunch of players put together....inzimam should have been playing but his sooo lazy, its pretty clear its just a holiday camp for the players before they get back to more official duties..

2 Ducks for Lara, and close to nothing in the other game..
Slabber and Spooney must be so proud...
