Had you at 11th and ended up voting for you :lol:
I knew my squad didn't make much sense on names only, so it was clear this match was low seed against high seed. We can ask 2mufc for the rankings after the round.

I'd say he was more of a defensive B2B who was equally capable of playing as a DM, in many ways similar to Davids imo. Do check out the comps if you get the time.
He’s one of the weird ones. At his peak he scored a lot, I think he even became European Cup top scorer ones, but he was truly a box-to-box as he picked up the ball in his own penalty box and then ran all the way forward to score a rebound. There were a very few “box-to-box” players who interpreted this role so literally, but Lerby was one of them.

Yeah he's hard to qualify but from the games that I'd seen of him, he did seem more defensively oriented and positional sound with his lung bursting runs being a feature of his game. Labeling him as an attacking B2B or questioning his role here did seem a bit over the top imo, and there have been games where he clearly plays as a DM who doesn't venture forward much (against France in the 84 Euros or against Italy in the Euros qualifiers for instance).

Thought Lerby was ideal for this set up but wasn't sold on Gazza playing as a CM in a zonal mista. He was tenacious and industrious no doubt but could have been found wanting defensively against Synco's midfield trio, with Messi joining in the triangles. Put Baggio in Keegan's spot and shift Gazza to Baggio's place with a standard CM there and Pat could have won this game imo.

Nonetheless kudos to Pat for trying something ballsy!

Good game, @Pat_Mustard.

Damn good team, maybe the toughest I could have met. Think it's highly likely you'll be in the play offs, I know I had you at #1 in my ranking.

Well played mate and glorious work on Zebec! Sifting through all that grainy footage to make the video can't have been easy but it's provided an excellent resource for us draft anoraks. As for your team, it was good enough and refreshing enough that I just had no appetite for arguing against it whatsoever. Great job!

Cheers Joga and thanks for posting the Lerby videos. I hadn't actually considered leaving out Keegan. If I make it into the play-offs that's something for me to ponder, although I'm so reluctant to ditch Keegan as I feel he's underrated in drafts and it's quite rare to hit on a set-up that suits him.

And yeah, the Zebec video took me a while. Sometimes it was frame-by-frame detective work to confirm shirt numbers or other proof, or digging for forgotten match reports. At one point, I even tried to decipher Cyrillic for some Belgrad derby lineups :lol: (This blog, blue column on the right.) In the end I've left out many promising scenes - some really great plays - because I was only almost sure it was Zebec. Still, the video is long and substantial enough as it is.

Came to the exact same conclusion, though primarily due to a preference for Baggio in that second striker spot peeling wide to the left. Agree it would probably be a better balanced side with an additional CM.

Cheers!

I’m pretty sure that me or @Šjor Bepo (signing him up without his consent!) can help you with that in the future.

Thanks, appreciate it. In that case it was mostly to identify lineups & goalscorers, which worked okay.

@Pat_Mustard @Joga Bonito

Just finished all the Lerby videos. First off, great player. The France video shows him more how he was playing here but it seems a shame not to let him burst forward that much as that is a great part of his game.
